  1. Just got back from a few days away. This, in my humble opinion is the best post on here and really is all that needed to be said. There is a big BIG massive and I mean MASSIVE difference here. The Birmingham management have apoligised for this (Even though it wasn't actually their choice.) I note that the Poole management haven't addressed the behavior of a few of there fans. That's the first difference The issue with the music (which was funny by the way and you wouldn't have an issue with it if it wasn't) doesn't carry with it a threat of closing Poole speedway down. The air-horn issue does (as explained very well by Brian Buck.) Incidentally someone has told me that at Poole when Birmingham riders won a heat (didn't win many to be fare) that the Benny Hill theme was played. I wasn't there so not going to take it on the word of one person. Perhaps someone could enlighten me.
  2. There were many more Edinburgh fans and many more Newcastle fans. They both won but didn't use airhorns so hire were Poole different?
  3. Firstly I agree that this was a minority of Poole fans. Secondly we have had the finals at Birmingham but this has not been an issue. Edinburgh came down with eight coaches to celebrate winning ths league. They were noisy. They were loud. They were well lubricated. No problems until Poole came to Like an idiot I forgot to put the Web address for the tavern. Still you can listen to the podcast. Almostliveshow.podomatic.podomatic.com
  4. Never been an issue before, and that includes at least the other finals. Why should we think there would be an issue now. No one seems to be capable of answering that question. Why are Poole fans any different? In fact if you can answer that why not come on to the speedway tavern tonight. I bet you don't.
  5. Congratulations to the EL Championship winners of 2013. See you in 2014.
  6. This had nothing to do with Poole winning or losing and yes it would have come up no matter what the result. I will try to explain why. 26 years. That's why. That's how long we were without speedway in Birmingham. I have had to endure waiting on four separate occasions since 2007 for councils to vote on letting the Brummies run.And the issue each time? Noise of course. On one occasion we were given only one year to run and to get the noise down. We were fortunate that the new silencers came in and that saved our bacon. So yes we are a bit touchy on the subject and I hope this explains why and why this has nothing to do with the result.difficult as that result was to swallow Now some questions for Poole followers.let's see if you can answer them. Why has this only been a problem this one time? Why have other fans had no problem with this except Poole. Why when being asked not to by various officials and on one occasionby a 12 year old boy. The best response was to laugh and the worst was to respond with bad language? Why had not one Poole supporter had the decency to apologise. None of these issues have been addressed by Poole fans on here. Instead they have tried hard to deflect. (choice of music for goods sake.) I won't hold my breath. As always Brian says it better than I ever could.
  7. That's the trials and tribulations of posting with a phone that doesn't recognise the word Poole.
  8. This is the first time we have had any problems with this since 2007. Let's be clear no other set of fans have disregarded pleas not to use airhorns, even when they have bought them.we haven't needed to go to the measure of confiscating them because speedway fans of all teams have been sensible and understanding. Then Poole came to town. What that says about pike fans I will leave to others. ths first part of this statement is untrue. The second part of the statement is answered by the fact that this us the first time that it has been an issue. Or to put it another way, Poole fans are the only ones ever to cause a problem.
  9. And there you have it folks. That's the attitude we have chime to know and expect. We are Poole and will do what we like and stuff the consequences. We didn't know (despite being politely asked several times) so stuff you. Funny how NO OTHER SET OF FANS have ever behaved like this. And that includes the finals that we have been in and lost and includes the visit of Edinburgh winning the league. And for your information a few horns (not a few but many) blasted occasionally (all bloody night) could indeed have far reaching percussions for us. But that's ok because we are Poole and nothing else maters. Jealous? Not a bit of it. I think we all need to compete with Poole and we will. Three years in the league and already in a final. It won't be our last and I am sure we will win one and I hope, no I know that our supporters will not behave like this.
  10. The Mic man is not connected to Birmingham and was a last minute replacement so why would he have sour grapes? He did congratulate the Poole team over the Mic but got moved out if the way by sky. The music was picked by the guy in the box and was again nothing to do with Birmingham.
  11. I have no idea if anyone else has answered this so apologies if that is so. It is part of the planning permission to allow speedway at Perry Barr that air horns are not used.since 2007e have had to fight for our lives three times with planning at the council with only the intro of the new silencers saving us on one occasion.this is a very real threat to our continuing. Interestingly not one set of supporters have ever been anything other than understanding of this. Then Poole came to Perry Barr. Despite being asked several times by officials and over the speakers they still blasted there horns. I asked somePoole supporters to please stop and the reply was, and I quote "we don't care you won't be here next year" And this was said as if that was a good thing. I found out after the match that my son politely asked a Poole supporter not to use his air horn and received a torrent of for letter words. Classy! For the record Birmingham will be back in whatever version of speedway there is next year. I also want to say that I am proud of or riders they have given us a season to be proud of. I am also proud of our supporters. That would have been difficult to watch but they never once stopped cheering our lads on. Dignified in defeat. Just to be clear that this is not sour grapes.well done Poole you were the better side when it mattered. I won't be complaining about the play off system.we all knew the rules at the start of the season so don't hesitate to recognise you as EL champions. I can't in all honesty congratulate many (and I do recognise not all) of the Poole fans that attended last night who were in my humble opinion a disgrace.
  12. The idea about having a grippy track is not so much that Poole cant handle it more the fact that that is the best type of track for the Birmingham riders. F.Y.I the Brum track has been prepared grippy all season and both Covatti and Smoli have handled it fine. Smoli takes advantage of the ruts that appear on the inside line and Covatti was doing fine until his injury.
  13. If you read my post you will see that it was the Brummie supporters I was talking about so you can (very carefully as its awfully high) get down from your carefully constructed high horse. Interestingly in an interview with Alan Phillips on The Speedway Tavern Alan Phillips was talking about the good relationship he has with Horton. When I put it to him that the consensus of opinion on the internet was that he wasn't talking to Birmingham he laughed it off. There is a podcast of the interview somewhere I will find the link when I have the time. In the meen time The 'Speedway Tavern' Will air tonight at 7:45. You can find us at www.sports-radio.co.uk
  14. A have a few things to say and will have to apologise if I get some spelling wrong as I am using my phone to post. Firstly I want to congratulate my fellow Brummie supporters for the manner in which they have bore the horrendous first leg defeat. They have, in the main been stoic. The vast majority on the brummies site have been positive and while we understand the gigantic task in front if us no one is giving in just yet I have found many of the postings on here (though by no means all) by Poole fans to be in poor taste and I would like to remind those already celebrating that nothing has yet been won. It is my hope that at the very least we give you a scare in Monday. (we have done it once before in the KOC against Eastbourne.) For those of you safrican americaning about our financial difficulties Ithink you will find that we have gone a long way in the right direction. We have increased our fan base by 30 percent this year.can you name any club in the British league that can say the same? For those crowing about how good (sic) that Matt Ford is, well Birmingham has a pretty good management team to. After battling all year we have finally started getting local TV coverage for instance.and we also have excellent local newspaper coverage.not bad when you consider what we are up against. Aston villa. Birmingham city.wolves.west brom. Warwickshire county cricket. Basketball.ice hockey also feature in this great city of ours. I would like to see how Matt Ford would survive with that competition! The Brummies, my team, my great and historic team have also been invited to a civic reception with the lord Mayor something that I am extremely proud of. And pride is mine and most brummie supporters over riding feelings at this moment. pride in our team, in what they have achieved and the manner in which they have achieved it. Proud because we know that winning is NOT the be all and end all. How you win and how you lose is more important. Win with honour and lose with dignity. Oh and by the way. For those of you suggesting that Birmingham should put our prices down. That would be an admission of defeat. No one has won anything yet.
  15. As a Brummie fan I don;'t think its an anti climax and I dont think its been a miserable season. I am proud of our lads, they have given us the best season we have ever had. And should (as seems most likely) we lose the final I will console myself with the memory of some great racing. I will congratulate heartily the Pirates, And then hope we come back next year and bite them.
  16. Not a chance of that happening. We will, as always, prepare the best track we can and leave 'that sort of thing' to others.
  17. How dare you!!! That is the most disrespectful post I have had the honour of reading. Granted it looks a VERY VERY steep hill to climb but nothing has been decided yet. I must admit I don't, Even in my wildest dreams, see a way back for us but the title of this thread is so disrespectful you should hang your head in shame.
  18. Getting very nervous now. Come on lads let's just do it. COME ON YOU BRUMMIES.
  19. Typical.this is not a Poole thread as you so wrongly state. This is a Poole AND Birmingham thread. The speedway world does not revolve around Poole no matter what you think.
  20. I have just seen a piece about speedway on BBC Breakfast TV. As well as talking about Tai and his bid to be world champ they promised that "Tai would be on the settee if he wins."
  21. I wanted to come down for this one. Saved some holiday so that I would be able to. Except work wont let me have them days.BUM!!!! Oh well sky it is then. I will try and make it a celebration and have the whole family over to watch it and make some noise. Hoping that we can keep it tight.
