Very quiet on this thread. Sooooooo! Good luck to Scunny tonight.GO STING THEM TIGERS!!!!!!!!! -
Something not right in our Scunny team, I haven't got the answer but they don't appear to ride as a team. The year we won the league the spirit and the need to win was there . We know the team can do it! We haven't progressed from either of the 2 competions so come on scorps GET GOING!.........Good luck!

Scunthorpe Vs Coventry (nl) - 26/05/14 (follows Pl Koc Match)
June replied to lucifer sam's topic in National League Speedway
Take a stepbackwards and do a little exercise that I did.... I got quite a shock! From the updates list the race times of every race 1 to 15 and name the winner in each race. BUT do this for both teams Scorpions and Stags then compare........Surely you will see as I did that times were very similar.....What I'm getting at is "A Stag didn't win a race but was on pace." The pace being of Prem standard." In fact there were faster times recorded in the N/L meeting. The Coventry winners could easily fit into the prem league side to leave N/ L for these youngsters to develope...Of all the speedway countries Britain need up and coming riders more than most!...British league racing is OK, but we all hope for Team GB to be competative in the International Competitions. Well I certainly do! -
Scunthorpe V Peterborough (plkoc 2nd Leg) 26/5/14
June replied to Crump99's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
How come no one mentions heat 10 when Scorps come over the line on a 5 -1 much to the delight of us fans. Only the ref saw an impedment some where. No one round us saw it. I had filled the prog in when the announcement come giving Klindt third place and we cant even look to a DVD to see, now that no one records our meetings. That 5.1 would have been the 4pts aggregate win needed for Scunny!. -

Stick your secrets....See if we care!! Good luck to the Scorpions especially Klindt - Go Lad get us those missing points! We've been too long with out a full team...You can do it!!!!! -
If the likes of Scunthorpe, Buxton stop developing riders it'll only be a matter of time before you Dudley lot will have no alternative but to use mediocre riders. there will be a shortage of the type of riders you go for ......like the 4 ex Scunny riders you have now.!!!!!!!!!! For gods sake you would think "only Scunny gain, ...... Its British speedway that GAINS! Every supporter out there should appreciate the long hours in the extremely cold winters that Richard and his army of helpers put in and these are some of the kids that use the facility and for their efforts they deserve a go at the next level of speedway. Thats all from me now. I get fed up of all the same old talk.

Witches V Scorpions 24/4/14 Pl
June replied to dontforgetthefueltapsbruv's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Last year it was the 2 PL rookies at reserve that did us. This year we have only 1 PL rookiie and one excellent reserve making up for it. So I dont think the problem is with the reserve berth. I think the team is short of that No 1, we need that rider who can produce 8 to 10 points each meeting. Our riders are inconsitant at the mo. We cannot lose that 1pt at home we need to get all 3 pts. thats another thing we did last year. Even if we did get Mellgren back sooner than we thought. whats to say he can get straight back into scoring the points. Look how long its taken David! Ash is doing well after his injury. Its a gamble when injuries are involved. -

Well that was certainly a different Scunny side to the one that thrashed Shefffield at home only a week ago? Surely we have to get a replacement for Mellgren, 10pts from a No 1 in a meeting makes a hell of difference! to a score-line!. -
Scunthorpe V Cradley (national League) 13th April 2014
June replied to Ommer Mon's topic in National League Speedway
Don't know why you should be confused... Most riders, if not all riders will go to the club that offers the most money. SIMPLE! and yes your right the Worralls and Ashley were good on their bikes when they started at Scunny but hell they've had some track time to become experienced speedway riders!......Thats why they come to Scunny for unlimited practice. Speedway will miss out if ever Scunny stop the training sessions. -

June replied to Ommer Mon's topic in National League Speedway
You mean Scunny Select v Scunny Rookies.....2 x N L ex Saints and 2x past/present P/L Scorps. .........Scunny fans know exactly what will happen. The rookies will get beaten in the same way that the select riders got beaten a few years ago.......Its all good for the Scunny youngsters. This is exactly why the NL team average should get reduced. GOOD LUCK STAGS.... ENJOY! -
It sickens me to hear how some people talk about riders. Everyone of us fans know how dangerous the sport is, especially after the start when all 4 riders are going for the same line. I hope Josh isn't seriously injured, hes still my favourite rider. I find him very exciting to watch and cannot believe some of the posts on here. Like scribbler I immediately thought of the Ben Powell incident. We cannot allow riders to get away with such bad behavior....hang your head in shame RH what you did was unforgivable!

Scunthorpe Stags Vs Kent Kings (nl) - Sunday, March 30th
June replied to lucifer sam's topic in National League Speedway
I remember this so well. 2006 such a successful memorable year for the youngsters ( take a look at the age of the kids then ) they were all mates such a happy bunch of lads, always clowning about. spare a thought! dont you think after winning the league once they'd all be up for doing it again in 2007? That team probably picked itself!...HAPPY DAYS........Youngsters bring something special to the sport....Enthusiasm !!!!!!!Also Grades of the riders was the order of the day wasn't it? -

Jim you and I are on a different wave-length all together. I gather you would rather pay top money to watch riders who are decent but not good enough to progress from N/L. Some youngsters start riding at the age of 5 or 6 ( ask Andy Harrison how old luke was) As they get to 15yrs they become elligable to race ......thats right. the starting place is N/L but the stand alone clubs go for the higher average, safe riders . Note; where are all the good riders who developed at Scunny and Buxton ? Then that makes a mockery of the likes of Scunny & Buxton etc trying to develope and fast track youngsters into league racing. -

June replied to lucifer sam's topic in National League Speedway
Yes I do agree Abbott there should also be a minimum points limit, the gap is a little too big at the moment Bring back Tom Young I say. BUT If every NL league team was built with say 5 rookies and 2 experienced riders the league would be great. Its a developement league and every team should take part in developing the riders. cor look how many riders we could have on the ladder on the way up! -

There is a way to settle the old problem of Stand alone teams and developement teams and that is to be ruthless, BSPA make the win at all cost teams either go PL or reduce the team averages to something like 33/34 points end of! The bottom tier has to be where rookies start their climb up to EL. Scunny and some others were doing a decent job of developing riders but judging by the amount of racers in the AM meetings we need a quicker route for the youngsters to take. Ask ourselves " are some of these riders giving up after a time of getting nowhere fast?" Look at Australia...kids in their early teens dozens of them, you can always read of new named riders breaking through. At this age the kids are having fun wanting to go faster and wanting to be part of a team. As a supporter its great to see these rookies progress like Tia, not all do it though, quite a lot will hang about being average and not reach the top.The system should change for the youngsters to at least get a chance! -
We've done the usual complete circle again.... The topic is " shortage of riders "Scunny has lost their team twice so we fans have experienced the hardship. We know Scunny have dedicated people who DEVELOP riders in practice sessions and AM meetings. Thats a brill job and everyone accepts that fact, I think! BUT seemingly that appears not enough we still need rules to get youngsters into the bottom league to get them started. also rules that all teams follow, how about rookies into 6 & 7, a few points less on the team average. The same for all teams?
-
Yea I remember Ashley Morris very well, where did he come from ? thats it Scunny. So as per usual this subject keeps going round in circles. Is there any wonder riders don't move up to our P/L side, they'll go where their offfered the most money.
-
I think Rob Godfrey pulled out of N/L with a very heavy heart.Running one team was possibly all he could afford. Must be very difficult finding money to run 2 teams. I'm not involved with Scunny speedway at that level. I'm a fan from the 70s and our 3 generations of the family love the sport. Oh don't forget Rob Godfrey started off with a field and has had to build up the stadium as he goes along. Its been purpose built and hes worked long hard hours down at the track in all weathers. One can only do so much!
-
Ommer, I'm sorry but I cannot agree with your statements of Heathens developing riders. NO no no!! This is done in places like Scunny, Kings Lynn etc where these kids start riding their very small bikes at very young ages 5 or 6 years old. At Scunny its under the guidence Wayne Carter & Richard Hollingsworth and his gang of helpers. These kids develope on to the next size bike and so on. They go from the training track to the big track and delopement goes on. By the time these kids get to teenages they have developed style and speed and compete on either 250 or 500cc bikes in AM meetings. By the time they reach 14/15 they are ready for NL. This is the age when there should be an opening into the first league for all those lads that has stuck with speedway. They have earned their right to at least be given a chance. At this level teams offering big money to youngsters already in the N/L is at the expense of many lads missing out on team places. Money can always buy the best team! In any sport.

Cont'd ...Sorry my comptr went on the blink had to re-boot. N/L is the bottom tier of the 3 leagues. Its the first step on to the ladder for the youngsters and also a first time of being part of a competative team. Its a huge step from having fun, beating better riders in practice and AM meetings. Therefore the sooner foundations are put in place for all teams to develope further to what Scunny and others are doing with these kids before they enter this league the better and faster we will see progression. My point being; I think the team Avereage should be lower, hence more rookies per team. Clubs that want more from the league should apply for PL. OK I expect to get shot down now lol.
