After reading John Louie, the Ipswcih Promoter's account of Tungate's deliberate charge on Josh Auty fills me with disgust. Did he even see it. I'll bet he was in the pits and missed it. He should feel guilty for not taking him out of his rides. he should feel partly responsible for bringing this exciting match into disrepute. The score stood at 30 30 after this incident. he's making out that the crowd was angry because we lost. Well John Louie your team would not have won had Josh been able to take his 2 rides and Ive lost all respect for you now. not that you'll be bothered!

At Scunny we see races like ht. 10 most weeks. Their all after that race line, otherwise they end up in the fence on bend 2 or at the back.. From the open stand at the start line it looked like first bend bunching however Stephan was lucky on the 1st bend in the race with Wilko. I could clearly see the clout he gave wilko. I was expecting Stephan to be excluded. Needless to say; The ref did not have the best of nights!

The majority of fans don't see or get to know of what happens on track or in the pits between riders. We accept refs decisions, not always agree but as in this instant the meeting continues all 4 back ht 10 re-run. We fans lose no sleep over what we cannot see, even if a glimpse of a hand or foot used by a rider. The re-run as you can see from the video was a brilliant race. Josh had a good clear lead throughout, it was Alex who was fighting to defend his position and did so successfully to get a 5.1 score for the Scorps. Then all hell let loose to see the charge made by Tungate on Josh who had slowed down and was acknowledging the crowds applause... not a pretty sight! fans should not have to tolerate bully tactics when a race has finished. We do advertise the fact that Speedway is a family sport so no rider should get away without being penalized with a ban. That hurts more than a fine! Someone will pay the fines and half the time it won't be the rider.

I wasn't filling my programme in at the time of the incident I was still cheering for the 5 1, as were lots of our fans that was stood on the open stand. I can assure you that Alex and Josh were on the back straight when Tungate charged with speed coming out the bends and heading straight for Josh. It was deliberate regardless as to whether he intended to hurt him. That's not the point! He should have been thrown out of the meeting. The ref lost control and failed to calm the fans. The sad thing about all this is; A really good meeting with loads of passing was ruined. After ht. 10 the score was poised ( 30 - 30 ) to have a cracking end, one way or the other. But Josh was w/d that left Scunny with no No1 who still had a possible 2 races and had scored a paid max. Mistakes happen in our sport as riders have to make split second decisions. However this was not a racing incident and understandably some people would have missed it, due to filling in the programme. Tungate went on to race against the wishes of fans, playing up to the crowd, made the situation worse. Ipswich should have withdrawn him at least we would be back on a level par and maybe the crowd would have calmed down. Rob Godfrey played a good part in all of this he knows his fans and he knew that by backing them it may help the uneasy situation. Hope Josh is not as badly injured as feared!

This could be a very interesting meeting.....with the Ipswich reserves Stephan and Ashley who started their league racing for Scunny in the N/L......With the then Amtr. meets and unlimited practice they'll know their way round the track....Good luck Scorps. lets have a repeat of last week please!....Safe meeting for all riders !

According to the BSPA site it is the dane Andersen, I've just read it!

The rule was dubious because if the r/r rule states that it is intended for an injured rider, that should be it. doesn't matter when or how the injury occurred end of! guest cancelled. In the same way I believe the rule for No 1 is the allowance of a guest that we used. Us using r/r of Ryan one would have cancelled the other. Not Glasgow's fault but that of BSP rule. Would Glasgow had beaten Scunny doing r/r I doubt it. Your guest turned out to be your 2nd best rider on the night. He got 3 wins from 4 races. 10 + 1 A very good showing, impressive rider! Not the best meeting. Missed you Josh you'd have been in your element on that outside line. Sure we would have won it with you! Hurry up to get back SCORPIONS need you!

Josh is Josh and what you see is what you get!....Without a doubt Josh is my type of racer. Stay as you are Josh we love what we see at Scunny, you are a crowd pleaser to most fans. I love races that include Josh he comes from the back ...lifts the crowd! A gate and go rider boring but you need one or 2 for tactical rides.

Sidney, Scunny has given chances to more young Brits than most other teams. We've missed out on points early in seasons for carrying them whilst they learn. Williamson, Bates Steph Neilsen L Blackbird, Ash Birks, Richie & Steve Worral., Sure I've missed others but I am doing recently and from memory. As for our Superb Josh. Always been my fav rider from NL days. Got to be the most exciting rider. Not being a gater makes all his races special. Josh knows Scunny track so well, on a good day he could beat the best top riders. I would love to see him in the G Ps.

What Are You Looking Forward To This Season?
June replied to Robinh88's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I wish for ( but know we won't have it) a proper seated stand....Got to the age now where I'd like some comfort to watch speedway!....Like the previous post. That all riders stay safe! -
Scunthorpe has never had much home advantage because of training and practice sessions at EWR open to all riders. BUT we have still managed to win the league!
-
Hard luck for Ryan. get well soon! However I see Theo as a very good signing. I can now see more points coming Scunny's way in meetings at the start of the season. With 2 rookies in reserve and Ryan struggling I don't think we would have coped too well. Good move Rob! Welcome to Theo. hope he takes advantage of getting plenty of practice in down at the track, once he's dialled in I think he'll be a good scorer.

Montie, Yes winning the N/L twice & the P/L league was absolutely brilliant and we all know that. Everyone of us know we have the best men working on our track and of course we all know the racing is better than at most other tracks. must be because we've helped produce a "World Champion" His 2 years racing for Scunny gave him a good start, including all the extra practise time. Hopefully Tai will win the title back next year. There are many other occasions when the fans of Scorpions & riders have had good times. Like the first function at the Baths Hall. A very successful evening when riders and fans mixed enjoying the evening dancing, joking and laughing . a great night. The Pig Roast held at the track, another good day enjoyed by all riders and fans. The nights at the bowling Alley with riders and fans, again successful. Social evenings at the Polish club. Quizzes at our own track club. Horse racing night at our club. All this helped create a good atmosphere with fans and riders on friendly terms. Being a fan of speedway since the mid seventies. I know what its like to lose speedway. Quibell Park, our family was heart broken to learn it was to be closed down. The council gave us another home at Ashbyville years later, but it happened again. we lost that track. Yet again the council gave us another home EWR, something like 20 years later. Its thanks to Rob Godfrey that we enjoyed all the above mentioned and some of the best racing. For my grandsons sake I sincerely hope that this doesn't happen again. He would be devastated as he is obsessed with the sport. Good luck I hope to see speedway continue in Scunny!!!

You got the point Montie! I now consider myself having been told off!!! ......The promotion, the track the racing & riders are all very good and Rob is brill with the mike.

We need another " Kenny" he was approachable to every fan. If they wanted to know anything, ask any question fans knew he would be in the bar ( after the meetings ) for a chat. Riders used to go in too, don't think they do nowadays, not sure, even we stopped going. We haven't had a social get together. Didn't even have rider of the year. We didn't have a press meeting. A lots gone wrong with the club. even fans stopped going on the forum for fear of being told off. We need to put that back to how it used to be!
-
I've read the above posts, and this isn't answer to anyone really but as I see British speedway; Its crying out for British riders to get to the top, be good enough to give us fans something to shout about, to be able to compete with the best in the world.. We've got to look after our own first, which doesn't happen! In the seventies we had loads of top riders. Without top riders watch our speedway go down the pan! Look at the old DVDs and take note of the crowds.

The sport is competitive, the riders race for points. points win trophies..... excitement takes over. I'm not saying wins have to be massive. will be better this year as if I understand it right Its 3 pts a home win ( no more 2 pointers ) . That's me, can't help it, I always want to win.....and I'm used to not always getting my own way. Don't let it worry you!
-
I'll bet Edinburgh fans this year loved murdering all visiting teams. It won them the league. I'm surprised at you coming out with a statement like that!......I'll own up I support speedway always hoping for my team to win, can't see the point otherwise.
-
Josh Auty is the one Scunny rider who I do not worry about. His time of racing with Tai, Tully and Richie Dennis in 2006/2007 was the best speedway one could see. Team mates but they had respect for each other, we were privileged to watch some fantastic racing. Josh couldn't gate then but it didn't stop him, he'd be up there at the end of the race and often getting the win. That's why I would say he'd get my vote for the most exciting rider anyday.
-
I felt more excited playing the game of naming the team!. I feel somewhat deflated now. 2 novice reserves.... off we go again! Anyway welcome back Carl ! . he is exciting to watch.
-
Duffy.....That's my team. I have it written down. I get the total averages to 42.34 .......I hope you get your wish, then at least 2 of us will be happy ha ha!

We all know Rob now, he isn't going to tell us if we guess right ! we'll have to wait until Thursday. The only other name I'd throw in is " Magnus ".
