  1. Agree with that - probably taken at 85 World Final??
  2. Ok Steve there you go.........but I must insist on keeping the year badges 26 - Per Jonsson, Peter Carr 30 - Kurt Hansen, Les Collins 29 - Billy Sanders 31 - Phil Crump
  3. My guess for no2 would be Igor Plechanov and Boris Samadorov (is that spelt right? Norbold? Norbold?
  4. 21 is really stretching me now.........Lawrie Bloomfield?? Jawa Cap.......Chris Morton?? Please don't fail me now anorak!
  5. he, he - That Jawa cap is a toughie and a half. Les Collins??
  6. 21 - I'll try Robbie Fuller as the rider in white instead? 20 - pretty positive it is Rosco, Yeates tended to use a "monkey mask" rather than a full face helmet
  7. These guys sound like WWF wrestlers rather than speedway riders, I can just imagine the announcer.......LET'S GET RRRRREADY TO................THROTTLE!!!!!
  8. Here I go again (I'm supposed to be working you know! ) 15 - Kenny Carter 16 - Erik Gundersen 17 - Shawn Moran 18 - Toughie, but I'll go for Gerald Short and Stephen Collins 19 - Larry Ross 20 - Alun Rossiter 21 - Another toughie, Alan Farmer and Steve Baker 22 - Gary Gugliemi, Rick Miller ??
  9. I haven't been to Bydgoszcz, but I can't really fault Prague. The track is a good for racing and although its no Cardiff, it has a great atmosphere. But the biggest selling point is the city itself. I have travelled a bit in my time, but I would have to say Prague is the most stunning city I have ever seen.
  10. Maybe Steve. As I recall pre-event, 1983 was one of most open ever. With Carter, Sigalos, Nielsen, Morton, Olsen, Gundersen, Lee, Sanders all in with a shout. Unfortunately, along came Egon and his little helpers...
  11. Thanks ajh for highlighting that. I went to Prague this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Next year, I was thinking Stockholm or Copenhagen - this might swing it though.
  12. I also remember Billy Sanders being hot in 84. As I remember he was many people's favourite for the title that year, especially because Gothenburg was a track he rode well - just didn't happen for him though.
  13. 12 - John "Mavis" Davis 13 - Peter Glanz is a good shout, but if not is it Malcolm Holloway?
  14. But if he did get injured then he wouldn't have won the GP series either. I do know what you are saying though - Jan O was for the most part, top man in 1990.
  15. Thanks WATigerman. My anorak is at its strongest for 80s speedway.
  16. Your damn right on 6 WATigerman. I think I've done ok on the rest too? 6 - Les Collins, Chris Morton, Carl Blackbird 4 - Kai Niemi, Richard Knight 7 - Kenny Carter 9 - Billy Sanders 10 - Tiger Louis 3 - Eddie Ingels and two guesses: 1 - Darren Boocock? 8 - Rick Miller?
  17. Phil Crump in 75 is not a bad shout. Not sure about Jimmy Nilsen though - great rider though he was.
  18. Some of these really are waifer thin decisions. For 83, Dennis Sigalos was also very much in my thoughts. I'd still stick with Kenny for 82 though. I think Bruce was a little distracted that year, despite winning the title.
  19. Just for fun, let's say the GP system had been in place for years. Who do you think would have been World Champion. My own knowledge only really stretches back to the 1970s, so I've listed who I think would have won from 1970 onwards. Now I'd be amazed if anyone agreed with all these. But I'd be interested to know what you lot reckon. YEAR - POSSIBLE GP CHAMP (ACTUAL CHAMP) 1970 - Ivan Mauger (Ivan Mauger) 1971 - Ivan Mauger (Ole Olsen) 1972 - Ole Olsen (Ivan Mauger) 1973 - Anders Michanek (Jerzy Szczakiel) 1974 - Ivan Mauger (Anders Michanek) 1975 - Ole Olsen (Ole Olsen) 1976 - Peter Collins (Peter Collins) 1977 - Peter Collins (Ivan Mauger) 1978 - Ole Olsen (Ole Olsen) 1979 - Mike Lee (Ivan Mauger) 1980 - Dave Jessup (Mike Lee) 1981 - Bruce Penhall (Bruce Penhall) 1982 - Kenny Carter (Bruce Penhall) 1983 - Hans Nielsen (Egon Muller) 1984 - Hans Nielsen (Erik Gundersen) 1985 - Erik Gundersen (Erik Gundersen) 1986 - Hans Nielsen (Hans Nielsen) 1987 - Hans Nielsen (Hans Nielsen) 1988 - Hans Nielsen (Erik Gundersen) 1989 - Hans Nielsen (Hans Nielsen) 1990 - Hans Nielsen (Per Jonsson) 1991 - Jan O Pedersen (Jan O Pedersen) 1992 - Per Jonsson (Gary Havelock) 1993 - Sam Ermolenko (Sam Ermolenko) 1994 - Hans Nielsen (Tony Rickardson)
  20. Please make sure this isn't a one-off Gem. There was some some crackers in there, with some great old names. Especially loved the 82/81 World final pics. My cousin has a Dave Ellis painting (anyone got one of those?) of Les Collins at the 82 Final - its an absolute belter.
  21. Shame on you Gemini. You don't know your Jancarz from your elbow
  22. Looks like I was just too slow out of the traps - much like my hero Chris Morton (see various pics for proof!)
  23. Sorry, my mistake. I meant 37 and I'll go with my original guess of Mike Lee and Martin Ashby Also on second glance I think I've nailed 23: Muller, Gundersen, Ross, Dryml?
