  1. No way, he's all yours now. We have a proper racer in his place - Kevin Doolan. If you need another indication as to to the farce Rye House is becoming you only have to examine last night's programme. On the 15th May we are riding against Sheffield then if you look at the right-hand column of the score chart the opposition are Ipswich and have been all season!
  2. Shambles from start to finish. I arrived about 6.20 and couldn't see any evidence of the track having been watered. Then, heat one, dust everywhere so out comes the tractor spraying out water every whichway. Can't see the point of watering the adverse camber or the entrance to the pits but it happened all the same. I suspect this caused the track to become patchy resulting in so many riders getting out of shape and crashing by picking up unwanted grip. I cannot believe that it would not have occurred to the promotion that it might dry out on a warm and windy day - not so warm tonight, though. Contrast this to Lakeside's meeting yesterday whereby the track was watered throughout the day providing a consistent circuit fit for great but safe racing. As for the team, all the best to Olly and Jason who fell victim to poor conditions, and hope injuries are not serious and will be back in time for the next meeting. Also, hoping Jason Garrity is fit and ready to return soon. Rye missed him so much during the past few meetings. The final shambles was the carpark. Clearly, nobody was marshaling it otherwise there would not have been a situation whereby rows were three-deep meaning the line in the middle had no means of exit. Luckily, within five minutes or so, the driver of the car in front arrived but others might not have been so fortunate. Checking my diary, I find that I am unable to return to Rye House until 20th July but, as far as I am concerned, that may be too soon!
  3. The Robert Mear you saw tonight was the one we at Lakeside have been experiencing. That is why he has been rested and Kevin Doolan signed in his place.
  4. Edinburgh, as they are the only club listed based in Scotland or is this too obvious.
  5. The thing I don't get is why Kent think Benji is going to do a better job than David.
  6. Rob Mear is signed as a temporary replacement for Jason Garrity. http://www.ryehouserockets.co/news.php?extend.583 I doesn't say if Rye will have to redeclare but with new averages coming out today but, not taking effect until 1st June, I.m guessing they must have to.
  7. As long as it isn't Robbie Kessler, Ross Brady or Ray Morton!
  8. I don't think Rob is in a position to come into the PL due to his full time job. Otherwise, he would have already done so. I agree with Shadders on this inasmuch as RR is the probable option and Rye may not have to rush Jason Bunyan back anyway. The next meeting is at home to Plymouth on 26th May. If Ipswich beat Plymouth the previous Thursday, which looks very likely, then the Rye meeting becomes a dead rubber. They don't have another fixture until 7th June away to Somerset.
  9. Yet, other than the British Final, there appears to be only one league fixture this month, Poole v Kings Lynn on the 27th.
  10. As I said - a Sunday meeting. Fixture re-arranged for 26th May at 4pm.
  11. I may be entirely wrong, but I think approaches must have been made to get Robert into the side. Some have suggested his continental diary might have precluded this. However, it could be more simple than this. As far as I know, he is a pupil at Reepham High School which is about 10 miles north of Norwich. Therefore, the logistics of his getting from there to Sittingbourne for a 6.30 start on a Monday isn't on.
  12. You're absolutely right. Next match Rye v Sheffield 11th May - why the 8pm start? Then we wait until 8th June, I don't bloody believe it, a league match against who? Plymouth of course!
  13. It is beginning to look like Len may have to consider a Sunday meeting, 5th or 19th May unless, he can get Leicester to switch their fixture, move the US handicap meeting next Saturday or have Plymouth on the 11th May then use the reserved date, 25th for the visit of Sheffield. Who'd be a speedway promoter!
  14. Meeting off - waterlogged track. No re-staging date yet.
  15. It was in 1971 Hackney won the KO Cup beating Cradley Heath over two legs in the final. All qualifiers up to the final were, in those days, over just one leg so it was the luck of the draw as to whether a team were at home or away. In the semi-final Hackney drew King's Lynn away and secured an unlikely draw which resulted in a replay at Waterden Road. This went right down to the wire. In the final heat, Hackney needed a heat advantage to progress thus winning 39-38. For the entire race Terry Betts led Bengt Jansson until Banger pulled out one of his finest cutbacks coming out of the final bend to to win by no more than the width of a tyre. Hackney reached the final the following year but were up against the majestic Ivan Mauger fuelled Belle Vue. To their credit, the Hawks won the home leg 40-37 with Banger scoring a 12 point maximum. As I recall, this was Belle Vue's only third defeat the entire 1972 season. Hackney lost 45-33 at Hyde Road.
  16. He has a full time job, well paid I gather, which would preclude his participation in the PL. On an different matter entirely, Ipswich did Rye House a favour tonight.
  17. It won't happen as Rob has no interest in riding in the PL. He said so during his interview with Craig Saul last night.
  18. Depends how Len wants to play it. Justin Sedgmen was expecting to return to Lakeside in 2013 but, owing to the change to the DU rule, was left out but has issued a 'come and get me' plea. Could be a steal on 4.99 as a direct temporary replacement for Jason. He achieved almost that in the EL last year.
  19. Strange to see that this is the only fixture of the day.
  20. Simon Lambert rode as a guest reserve for Workington yesterday. He scored 7+1 from four rides.
  21. They've made a start by running Ipswich close this afternoon at Foxhall Heath: http://speedwayupdat...ay&thread=12003
