  1. That's a real statement of intent and doubly good to see from a club that's had its struggles in recent years. Kudos to the management.
  2. Yep, build the 2018 Workington way. You know it makes sense!
  3. Good post, IMHO. I’m presuming the bonus for you and your fellow Belle Vue supporters when watching the Colts is the prospect of some of them coming through to the senior side.
  4. Beat me to it! I’ve been to Lakeside on many occasions, though not local to it. Of course I’d like a replacement. Wouldn’t we all?
  5. Eastbourne every chance, I'm sure you're right there. Great kid and I'll even trek over to West Row now and then in 2019 to watch him.
  6. Edwards is a fine signing IMHO, bright, talented, personable and level-headed. Such a mature approach in a youngster. Not a wild throttle-jockey but someone who goes about his business, constantly learns and quietly stacks up the points. I see him having a long and satisfying career.
  7. The live stream analysis from the awards did mention the quality of speedway at Lynn.
  8. Certainly the middle of nowhere as far as having a speedway track, sadly. Let’s hope for better times.
  9. It’s not unlikely that Dave will have several spares should you feel the need!
  10. FreeSports is on ch95 for me; its website also suggests ch64. It is, as the name suggests, free to air and broadcasts a lot of live Polish and Swedish speedway with Mr Goddard commentating. It would, IMHO, be well worth a retune to pick it up. Premier Sports requires a subscription. Don’t know if you take Speedway Star; there was a feature during the season on Dave.
  11. I would have thought Worrall had shown enough at the back of last season for that not to be (too much of) a worry. Championship berth sorted as well. And I hope and suspect he’ll be well into the groove by the time Bewley arrives if, as apparently seems likely at least according to the Workington thread, he does miss the start. But fingers crossed in any event.
  12. Dave Goddard’s work will be familiar to many through Premier Sport, Free Sport, match DVDs and — no, actually, I think I may have mentioned that already. Edit: In answer to Richard Weston.
  13. Dave Goddard, whose work will be familiar to many through Premier Sport, Free Sport, match DVDs and a number of live commentaries at various forms of four-wheel racing, has just been named Commentator of the Year — from a shortlist of 10 — at the inaugural Motorsport Awards. I am beyond chuffed! King’s Lynn won an award (I think it was racetrack of the year) ahead of the likes of Silverstone, so it seems that speedway fans have been making their votes count! Congrats again, Dave, richly deserved.
  14. Fair point, particularly in such a tight tie, but obviously we Workington fans would have loved to see Bewley and Proctor in the saddle rather than on the sidelines. I did think, with all due respect to Lakeside and an injury-ravaged Peterborough, that the Tigers/Comets encounter would produce the eventual champions.
  15. I suspect that Championship would simply be one commitment too many for Nic this year — he didn’t have a Premiership club when signing for Workington and upon joining Poole found the logistics tough. Rode more than a hundred meetings last season. Assuming he gets a top-flight spot then I can’t see him riding second-tier in 2019, certainly not a full season.
  16. Comets named team of the year tonight at Cumbria sports awards, yay! Wonder if they’ll have room for yet another trophy?
  17. One of the sadder elements of our sport is the repeated effect of “last man standing” which sees injury wreck sides. Peterborough would be the obvious one this year, but as you say Scunthorpe also suffered. Glasgow were without Cook at a crucial time and as a Workington fan I’m still trying to work out how we covered the loss of Bewley with Proctor also out at finals time.
  18. Haven’t checked, but from memory I think that was THJ having a joke!
  19. Very happy with this signing. All those hard yards of 2018 were starting to bear fruit towards the end of the season. Plus, with presumably more two-point level riders around for this campaign, we can look to decent progress for Kyle. Kudos also to the club management, which never flickered in its backing last year.
  20. I believe he finished fourth one year under the impression that would suffice (“I thought I was sweet!”) only to find out afterwards it was top three! Don’t know if it’s changed again subsequently, but obviously academic now after that state second place did the trick.
  21. Puk used to do it regularly if frustrated during his season at Wolves. As for the Rasmus/Jason tight finish, being on bend one I immediately looked to the grandstand where the majority of fans were on their feet cheering so clearly thought that Rasmus had edged it. A brilliant night and commiserations to Scunthorpe, whose riders battled to the end and whose supporters likewise cheered them on beyond the point when the result looked inevitable. Hope Jason isn't too badly hurt -- it looked a heavy tumble -- and good to chat with Lucifer Sam. Onward to Rye House!
  22. Extraordinary. Just extraordinary. Delighted for the team but have to offer commiserations to Monarchs fans as that result must be awfully hard to take. Can't imagine how I'd feel in similar circumstances.
