  1. From Belle Vue official site: Tonight's Elite League match against Poole was postponed due to a leaking water main and water pipe under the track.
  2. An interesting take. The track was an absolute quagmire, David Gordon admitted it was a disgrace and the match was abandoned by the referee after consultation with both sides following three races.
  3. It was, indeed, Jack Hargreaves. People have a go at CVS on occasion, which is fair enough, but he had signs printed to the effect that the two Karlssons were not riding and had them put up outside the stadium so that fans could decide whether or not to part with their hard-earned to see an under-strength side. Not sure that Nicki went through the card, but certainly scored heavily. Edit: Well, having looked it up, you are quite correct, 15-point max. Mr Pedersen is listed on the Eastbourne team in the updates site as 'Mr Popular'!
  4. Very well said, Aces51. It must be tough to swallow such a damning judgement on your club and maintain a dignified stance. Good on you.
  5. By contrast I was never a fan of Peterborough, regarding it as an 'open the throttle and cling on' circuit, but have grown to appreciate it more. As you say, to each their own.
  6. I take it those tracks are clamouring to stage the meeting, then? In any event, a rider's view of an entertaining track is surely one on which he goes well.
  7. Have had that conversation in previous years with the club's eminent historian and I think the conclusion was that Wolves have never been able to lay claim to the British title holder. Yet they've had five of the last eight under-21 winners (assets Haines and Woffinden twice each and, perhaps a bit of a stretch, Ben Wilson was doubling up at Monmore when he won in 2006). Thought Garrity rode really well in the U21 at Monmore; seems to have kept the speed and shed some of the rougher edges of his riding (these words could come back to haunt me if he wipes out Woffinden inside a lap!).
  8. Woffinden to lead the final, Kennett to knock someone off and Nicholls to take the rerun...
  9. Sets arrived; many thanks, Neil. Looks a very professional product and the rules booklet is in both Polish and English, which is a pleasant surprise. Thought I would have to download the rules.
  10. Take your point, but surely that's precisely the sort of experience from which a rider learns.
  11. Hardly harassed to be asked politely by a smiling official, Mr S. Congratulations to Robert Branford, whose style I've always liked. Commiserations to Jason Garrity, who looked the class of the field and has managed to rub off his rough edges without losing his dynamic racing style. For those who have had a go at him in the past (including this poster), he raced superbly and handled his disappointment graciously in the post-match rostrum interview. Well done also to Kyle Howarth, another who looked a likely winner and was excellent throughout, and to Ashley Morris for picking himself up and reaching the final after being wiped out in his first race. Finally, Matt Williamson, of whom I know nothing other than the programme note which said he took the sport up seriously only last winter. This level of meeting has clearly come way too soon for him and with Monmore a tough track for the first-timer, I was expecting an F-X-0-1-R kind of card. But he rode sensibly and within his limits, varied his lines, completed all five races and never looked like coming off. A big well done there.
  12. OK, thanks. My other thought was that, as it's principally schools related and some community use, that might mean age-group rugby with a smaller pitch but that's totally off the top of my head. Great news that the scheme seems set to go ahead, anyway, on the assumption that planning permission doesn't throw up any unexpected snags.
  13. Well, Workington is 364m and that's round a professional rugby league pitch. But we will see (hopefully!).
  14. So, Kevin, apart from the incompetent sparks, the heavy-handed tapes repairer, novice starting gate staff and dissembling announcer things went pretty much as planned?
  15. Think you rather sleep-walked into that one, 21CH!
  16. And the more characterful he is, the less attention the two 15-year-olds will get, allowing them to develop at their own pace without pressure. It all helps.
  17. I think you'll find they do, actually!
  18. Thanks, MrMungo, much appreciated. I think the Isle of Wight -- Dudley South, as someone artfully named them on this forum -- look particularly strong and Mildenhall's top five appear impressive, notwithstanding this narrow home defeat.
  19. Just wondering if anyone who was at the match might give an indication on how the two young Dudley reserves went? I'm thinking style/pace etc rather than the actual points scored. Always interesting to get some insight on the younger element.
