Campaign To Get Coventry Bees Back Racing In 2018.
CB252 replied to NSSC News's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I'd like to see the money raised next week going to James Sarjeant to offset some of his costs whilst he seeks employment. -
Horton as good as stated that there will be no Brandon return this season at tonight's NSSC meeting. The situation there is dead in the water, although he did mention that Brandon Estates may be willing to sell the land. Needs 800 at Leicester to break even, although the season ticket offer will push that figure up. Sandhu isn't providing any financial support. Those two pieces of information alone tell you that it will be nigh on impossible to see the season out. The evening descended into chaos to be honest, with quite a few people, understandably, emotional about the situation. Meeting didn't really serve any useful purpose and left a bit of a sour taste in the mouth for me.
-
I was told 5 meetings, but where that figure comes from is anyone's guess. The key announcement will come from the stox, as if they declare intent to run stox at Brandon on April 1st there wouldn't be any need for the Bees to use Leicester. Still way more questions than answers I'm afraid.
-
I'd say 7.45/ 8.00 start time is a necessity on a Friday and I live the right side of Coventry to do the journey in 25 minutes if the M69 is clear. The promotion have will have to show a lot of good will to make this work. Cheap entry, subsidised travel for those that don't have transport, cheap deals for Leicester season ticket holders. Given that they still owe us season ticket holders from last season, I doubt they have it in them to make it work.
-
It's wasn't exactly difficult to work out it might happen but, if you need the ego boost, carry on gloating over our demise. Still got disaster written all over it. Would you still be able to get to Poole on your bike if they moved 30 mins away from Wimborne Rd?
-
Don't remember anyone telling you it wouldn't happen, just that it was a cr*p idea, which it is. Hope Horton has some wealthy backers otherwise we won't see the season out. And I'm one of the few that might give it a chance, if we have a clear date to return to Brandon. Many I know won't or can't get to Leicester. The lack of facilities at Beaumont Park will put several off. The Bees have many fans that like to watch their speedway from the comfort of a nice warm bar.
-
And there in lies your problem. That word has no place being mentioned in the same breath as Beaumont Park. Rubbish news and the Bees will be out of business within weeks anyway.
-
You have heard of the BSPA haven't you?!
-
You were on about buying the club, which is what Mr Horton purchased from Mr Sandhu. Presumably purchasing riding assets etc comes with a price that would be beyond the remit of your average speedway fan? Millionaire might be a stretch but you'd need a sizeable amount of cash to literally throw away with little chance of a return on your investment.
-
It's an interesting idea but, dare I say, the wonderfully forward thinking BSPA wouldn't make this an easy feat to accomplish?!
-
Bought the club with what? We don't just have millionaire fans wandering around, we aren't Poole! Whoever bought the club when Horton did would have ended up getting stitched up and having nowhere to run at this point. The way forward is a basic stadium in a field as, realistically, that is all British speedway can pay for these days.

Unfortunately the only bit I am in the know about is the bit about the site being offered as a car storage facility. It's being offered by JRB consultants in Solihull on behalf of the owners. I've seen the particulars of the offer complete with pictures of Brandon in all its glory. As to what is happening to the team, I haven't got a clue. Same as everyone else.
-
There is no prospect of Brandon being bought up to spec. The owners are already hawking it around the motor trade and offering it as a vehicle storage site. Moving to Leicester is actually the quickest way to extinction, as the club would be bankrupt at seasons end and still have no long term plan. The game's up I'm afraid. We aren't the first and we won't be the last team it happens to. It's been a good run and now it's time to move on.
-
Good idea? You really are a total halfwit. It's even worse than your idea to relocate us to Leicester, Wolves, Birmingham etc. Have you ever tried to get down the M40 / A34 on a weeknight? How many Coventry fans would do that? I realise you never leave Poole and it probably takes you about 5 minutes to get to Wimborne Road on your Penny Farthing, but think about what you're posting!
-
It's amazing, and also a little embarrassing, that no one involved can put out a statement to provide some clarity on what's happening. Still. That's Speedway, as the saying goes.
-
So if you'd agreed to sign a lease on a flat on the basis that it was fully furnished and when you turned up and it had been stripped, you'd go ahead and sign? I'm sure Horton isn't blameless but to say he should have just signed is nonsense. He'd now be scrabbling around trying to furnish a stadium and somehow be trying to find the quarter of a million a year that he needs to even open the doors to the stadium.
-
That's a worry. Two weeks of dealing with the corrupt 'old boys' club at BSPA towers and he'll be running for the hills. Many a sane man has fallen foul of speedway and its quirks.
-
Read the article properly. The stadium owners are calling the police in. Nothing to do with the speedway club. I still think Sandhu has something to do with Brandon Estates. It's all a stitch up.
-
The difference is, if it were Ford, the rules would mysteriously change.
-
I understood from the statements and media interviews I heard last week that the stadium will be made good once the new tenancy agreement starts on 1st Jan. There's nothing to report at the moment.
-
Graham Drury announced at NSSC the other night that OAP prices are increasing Birmingham next season. Research has indicated to them that OAPs have a tonne of disposable income and no doubt they realise that 90 per cent of their crowd are OAPs.
-
Let's hope Mick doesn't bugger it up again when he arrives back from his holiday.
-
The ultimate troll. You should try leaving Poole occasionally and see some other tracks. Sorry everyone, it's my own fault for replying to him. Even Shovlar has refrained from trying to antagonise Bees fans on this thread but this guy can't help himself.
-
You're a total pillock pal. Been supporting the Bees home and away for 30 years, unlike you who gets in free at Poole for peddling a crap magazine and never leaves Dorset. Why do you think Coventry fans should go and watch their team ride at Leicester (whom they detest) just because you think it's a good idea? I know fans that have been going to Brandon far longer than me who feel the same and won't travel. Once you lose your home, you cease to exist. It's just a fact. Doesn't make me a bad fan for stating it.

The only alternative is to close down. Attempting to share another clubs stadium wouldn't work in any sport, let alone a farcical minority sport like speedway with its miniscule crowds. People would back it for a couple of months if they could see a new stadium being built locally but, as we all know, that isn't going to happen.
