Ipswich v Poole; Supporters Cup; Thurs 16/05/19
CB252 replied to SteveLyric2's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Anyone need convincing that the British variant of speedway is the most embarrassing sport on the planet? Look no further folks. -
If it is a squid it'll definitely be damp, since all squid live in water. As long as it's not a damp squib, we'll be OK.

Swindon. V Peterborough. 06/05/19.

Yeah, track ended up more like Wolverhampton than Leszno sadly. Peterborough are pitiful opposition mind you. -
Well, each team having a contracted no 8 from the Championship would be a stsrt now there's no race night clash. Effectively you are then employing a squad system. I mean, Torun wont replace Doyle with a rider of equal standing from their squad will they, so they will be weakened by it. It's part and parcel of credible sport.

Poole v Belle Vue Thurs 2nd May 2019

Lidsey was impressive tonight in Lublin on a proper race track riding in the 'major' league. -
Paid about 120 quid for a wizzair return flight to Poznan last week, but was only booked a week before departure so there's way better deals to be had if you plan well in advance. I think there's a few people that post on the international threads that can probably give better advice than me if you've got a particular destination in mind.

Poznan is a very good base for a number of tracks. Last week we hopped on the train to ZG on Friday. Probably cost about 7 quid each, there and back, took about 1hr 45. Same with Leszno on Sunday, about 1hr 20 on the train. Both direct connections. Torun is easy as well. Cheap flight into Bydgoszcz and 45 mins on the train to Torun which costs about 2 quid! Meetings cost about 8/9 quid to get into. The SEC qualifier at Poznan was a fiver.

Was fortunate enough to be at the Zielona Gora and Leszno meetings last week (Poznan SEC meeting in between). Amazing atmosphere at both league meetings, racing brutal at times. Wonderful presentation. No ridiculous guests or tracks full of holes or oil leaking onto the track. The whole experience reminds you that speedway can be taken seriously if presented properly.

Peterborough vs Wolverhampton PSC 11/04/19

Panthers could try Kildemand. Gets on well with Andersen. He surely won't have an Ekstraliga job with Gorzow for long? His stock is that low that he'll probably be asking to ride here before too long. Why he thinks he's still good enough for top level speedway is beyond me. Actually, not sure he'd average over 7 in our league to be honest. -

Very enjoyable match that was. Heat 8 was absolutely superb. Interesting team management on both sides with Adams giving Morris an unecessary third ride (under this format) instead of using the well on the pace Becker in heat 10. Bizarre decision from Johnson to leave Andersen in 13. Expect Poole to beat Panthers on Monday but hopefully the racing will be up to this standard. -
What I find remarkable is that no one has come up with the correct opinion on who to drop yet. Surely Bjerre is the man to go. Hardly scoring a point in either League, and it's a stretch to think he'd be better if he dropped to reserve. Barker is a better rider and certainly a more exciting rider to watch than Bjerre. Surely Buczkowski fancies another tour of duty with Panthers. What about Sundstrom, he can't be that busy?

Don't think the team managers did either otherwise Andersen would surely be at 3 for Boro, and I'd have had Bjerre at 4 for Belle Vue. -
I think the point was, he now has no team spot in the only televised league in which he was planning to ride, so he won't be giving his sponsors any major exposure.

In no other team sport do the competitors determine what a team kit/uniform looks like, so why should Peterborough speedway be any different? If a company is pumping money into the club, they want to be the focal point of the team kit. You always get the hysterical masses that side with the rider in speedway, but the club can't afford to lose a major sponsor by having a rider dictate the design of a team suit. Looking at the press and practice pics, it's hard to see what his issue was. The fact that he was willing to sell his principles out for points money also cheapens his argument massively.

Lakeside V Peterbrough Play Off Semi Final 14-10-18

As daft as two Swindon riders lining up in a Playoff final, for different teams, neither of which were their own? -

Correct. You can't run a 'professional' sport and even entertain the notion of it ever being acceptable for a rider that represents another club in the same league to suddenly switch sides for the night. The fact that the sport runs successfully, and has a reasonably sized audience, in other countries without such lunatic asylum rules being in place also suggests they're totally unnecessary.
