The Swedish riders that rode in the Uk, also rode in the Swedish League in those days.. I suppose that now they can ride in three different leagues, maybe they are more able to afford a few bad meetings!

I think that the referee was in a no-win situation. Whichever way he went he would have been wrong in the opinion of some.

It was an excellent meeting and long may Darcy Ward keep missing the starts! The guy is unreal!

I hope Ward isn't coming back too soon.

I was there for that meeting too. Gote Nordin was the unlucky one, he was leading Charlie Monk off the last bend, but his bike slowed, and Monk won the meeting. It was the best I ever saw Monk ride though, and he looked classy. I remember the clash between Fundin and Ivor Brown too! Ove was excluded for that, but in spite of his reputation, Fundin was rarely excluded.

The only possible way to brighten the British Final up, would be to allow foreigners in it.

That's not allowed, it seems you can only support your own.

A great show by Woffy, but I would just give Emil the edge over him. With Darcy out of the running, I really hope that the Russian wins it now. ,

I thought it was a decent enough meeting. The best rider won and there was some good hard racing, "proper speedway!" Not to mention a few up and coming Brits! What more do people expect?

The old monthly challenge really was something special. During the era of the "big five" most of the match races featured them and on several occasions a new track record would be set up. Even in those days though, there were problems in getting the races completed within the month, and I distinctly remember Ove Fundin having to forfeit his title (against Peter Craven, maybe?) because of his fixtures in Sweden. My opinion is, that this once highly prestigious championship, should be confined to the memory.
