They tried a wage restriction before, and as Jimmy Nilsson once said,he gets paid his official money, then the brown envelope appears. How do we know it won't be the same again?

Nobody at Swindon will be counting their horses just yet. -
Peter Craven himself was just slightly above 5ft in height! I remember when Norman Wisdom was presenting the trophies at a Wembley final one year, he was a very short guy too,and Peter Craven and him were comparing their heights on the centre green! Also, Peter Craven, being so small, and riding at such an angle, prompted Ove Fundin to say in his book, that when leading him, he would sometimes have a glance behind him, and just see an "empty bike" as he put it!

If Michael Lee had managed a full career, it could have been very different for him, but, as we all know................

I always looked forward to his visits to Swindon and anywhere else I saw him. He was by far the most spectacular of the big five. I like to think he was our best rider, maybe he was, but Peter Collins was also terrific.

Peter Craven was hugely popular at Swindon, and once, he equalled the track record (72.0secs.) twice in one meeting. I have put a typical action picture of him in my profile.

Actually, A good case for Poole winning this meeting can be made here. Against Lakeside, we were 2 points behind by heat 7, and surely, a star studded side like Poole will be further ahead than that? Swindon finished strongly and went on to win easily enough, but against Poole it will be different, much different, after all, they have a double world champion, and a young upstart called Darcy Ward, not to mention the Swindon specialist, "Magic" All in all, Poole should run out comfortable winners in their away leg, and then finish the job off with a routine win on their own awful track. Poole's to lose without doubt.

If only they could get rid of the Ford factor, it would be a very good starting point. Will it happen though?

Belle Vue can be a tough place to go to, especially with Zorro finding some form, because he can offset Cook's absence to some degree. I just hope the home team go for it, and that's it not payback time for the money Ford gave them. Apart from that, Lakeside have to go to Swindon first, and although it should be a comfortable home win, they have won at Blunsdon before now when it was least expected.
