  1. Stanley Stadium was not far from the end of the M62 motorway, pretty close to the city Centre. The last speedway meeting was in 1960 (they were then known as the Pirates), but greyhounds ran until the end of 1961. The stadium no longer exists and is now the site of a fruit and veg market. No reason was given for closure, but eight points from eighteen meetings in their final season tells it's own story. Taken from Homes of British Speedway
  2. Very good suggestion Train Times From Broxbourne: 25 & 57 past the hour From Rye: 06 & 36 past the hour £2 return See ya there
  3. Isn't it double yellows in Pindar Road? Not sure what the parking restrictions are on a Sunday, but I wouldn't put it past the local council to send out a team of wardens.
  4. For someone who watches home drubbings at Kings lynn every week that's a bit rich!!!!
  5. I recall him riding in either Bobby Garrad or Kelvin Mullarkey's testimonial back in 1985 or '86. Also remember a very young Jason Crump scoring a point for Peterborough back in the early 90's.
  6. Money raised will go to the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund .... What better reason is there to go?
  7. Perhaps he's a fan of speedway, but a Poole supporter?
  8. I didn't go to another meeting after Rye closed in 1993 untill I discovered they'd reopened and caught the last few meetings of 2000.
  9. I don't remember seeing any trains leaving Cardiff Central Station at 3am when I was leaving the Walkabout Bar last year Perhaps some of us want to have a good drink on the Friday and Saturday nights and then stagger back to our hotel rooms a few minutes away? To call people mugs for spending their hard earned money for a once a year event is being very disrespectful. How much money did you spend travelling up to Norfolk to see one sided meetings at Kings Lynn last year?
  10. I'd love to see Chris Holder in the meeting ... still time
  11. Hmmm... so Rye House adult admission are up a quid and STILL no family ticket.
  12. Some people are always looking for a downside to everything ... Attention seeking muvvers
  13. "Wash" implies that they'd emerge cleaner than they went in .. Have you seen the state of the water?
  14. Thanks for the offer Haggis, but there's no need to go to the trouble. We're planning on popping up to PWP sometime during the summer anyway as the kids like it there so much, the Animal Olympic show was particularly pleasing, especially as I got a tri-cast up, Bearded Lizard, some kind of beetle whose name I forgot and American Cockroach. As I said we would've had a look around the museum, but the kids were hungry, tired and grumpy after standing about in the rain watching my son play football before we came up to PWP. I'm happy that the move to PWP has been such a success as although it would be pleasing to the die hards to have the celebration at High Beech it is a nightmare to park and get around the very small merchandise room there Hope to see you all in the summer and definitely next February.
  15. It was too busy to push the wheelchair through the museum to be honest. I got fed up asking people to "excuse me" in the merchandise tent next door when we first arrived, so thought we'd walk around the zoo to pass the time while the crowd thinned out. By the time we returned the kids were starving and wanted to go home.
  16. Pretty decent day, although we didn't set foot in the museum, the kids weren't interested and we'd seen it all before. I was going to buy a copy of the 2009 Rockets Highlights DVD from Ken at T2TV, but I'd left my wallet at home. "A lucky escape", the other half said, "why would you want to spend twenty quid on a five minute DVD?" And that's from a Berwick supporter!!
  17. Cover it with clay and put up a concrete wall round the outside?
  18. Sod that, We're shooting off back to Cardiff for a pi** up
  19. I take it she doesn't read the forum Not sure of the availability of 'Bow at Rye House
