  1. Thanks for the info. Think I may look for something in Ipswich on the way to the track. Driving down from Berwick, so I'll need something to sustain me during the meeting
  2. Agree. Confident, but without the cockiness you get with some young riders. I wish I'd had a camera primed when he grabbed my Rockets cap and placed it on his head. Wish him all the best. Seems like a nice lad.
  3. Forecast says 6c and dry. It'll feel a lot colder if there's any breeze. Any hot food apart from burgers & chips available?
  4. He was complaining of bike troubles, so difficult to say.
  5. He seems like a nice lad too. Riding order announced, except for reserves who will have to "fight it out" for the 6 & 7 positions. My first taste of stovies, very very nice. First Scotch pie of the season consumed, won't be the last.
  6. Cutting short my visit to Bandit country to attend. We usually keep it close until around heat 12, then fall away. I expect the same to happen. Witches by 8-10 points.
  7. Blown engine for Luke Bowen in heat 14. Only sour note on a tremendous night. Good to see Steve Boxall & Lewis Blackbird walk away from a nasty looking crash
  8. What a night!! Little old unfancied Rye House turn up and take the points back to Hertfordshire. My pre meeting pessimism was unfounded as we romped to a deserved victory. Would've had four points but for a rusty Jason Garrity. Superb from the rest of the side. Great turn out by Rockets fans. A throwback to the good old days of the mid 2000's. Welcome to the Premier League Panthers
  9. Cost of return flights would be prohibitive, not to mention the distance travelled for a few early season meetings. The alternative to RR would be a guest on a very low average which would put the Rockets at a huge disadvantage.
  10. Should be a decent turn out from the Rockets supporters. Most I've spoken to are going. Can't see past a home win by 8-10 points at least. I'll be tweeting updates for anyone who can't make it (username in signature)
  11. Haven't had time to trawl through every post since the meeting, but from what i've seen it's mainly negative. I've been to Leicester speedway around half a dozen times, that was probably one of the better meetings I've seen there. As for the parking, it wasn't ideal. We turned up 90 minutes before the advertised start time and parked in the industrial estate, around 10-15 minutes walk. Security at the shopping centre were guiding us away from their car park, although I noticed a fair few ignoring the requests. The queue at the gate was long, around a 15 minute wait for us, but that has to be expected for these type of meetings. At least the weather was decent. I'm not gonna mention the track shape as this has been done to death over the past couple of years. Can't change it now, just deal with it. Good to see so many turn up for a worthy cuase, we estimated 3,500-4,000
  12. I was there for a while, up until the interval. Not enough speedway for me, the quad bikes and the mini bikes didn't interest me, besides, we were all hungry. Likes the look of Edward and Steve too, except for Edwards bike troubles early on. I too couldn't believe how dry the track looked, I was expecting a swamp. Looks as though the 1st/2nd bend fence has been moved out a bit, exposing even more adverse camber, but I suppose the air fence will take up most of that. I thought theyre'd be more people there though. Good to hear the sound of the bikes again. The air fence is going up within a week I was told
  13. We'll be rushing back from Cardiff for this (not more than 70mph of course ). Echo what WHB and Bolly have already said. Unlike a certain Pole who has flitted in and out of British speedway at will, this testimonial is well deserved. I hope the line up befits the occasion.
  14. If a professional footballer had posted what Nelson did he'd be in a world of trouble.
  15. My maternal grandfather came over here from Cyprus in the mid 1930's and worked his arse off to earn a living, sleeping standing up, arm over a rope strung across a room, along with up to a dozen other men. As soon as he'd earned enough money my grandmother, late mother and aunt joined him in 1938, living in one tiny room above a shop in Lambeth, working all hours. My mother used to tell me how they'd be taunted in the streets during the war because people assumed they were Jewish. My early schooldays were spent avoiding the bullies who would call me "Paki" because they didn't know what a Greek looked like To some, what Tyson said may seem like a bit of a laugh, but not me. I couldn't care less if he never comes back here. Overrated at best.
  16. According to Nelson on Facebook last October he couldn't wait to go back to OZ. I think he left before the end of the month. Looking at his disgusting racist FB status this morning I'm kind of glad he ain't racing over here this year! I guess they'll be a "To Let" sign going up on that caravan behind the 4th bend now
  17. I'm not bigging our chances though. Only one who'll up his average significantly is Jason Garrity.
  18. On a 7 point average? Another season over by May
  19. I was presented with a box of them after one of the Bandits hog roasts. It was like all my birthdays had come at once!
  20. The pies are superb. Best burgers in speedway too
  21. Can I add to that the chocolate Eton mess for dessert was to die for!!
  22. Mickey Dyer suffered terribly from home sickness last year and was back in Oz before the end of October. Doubt he'll be back this year from what I've heard.
