  1. The problem for next Friday is rider availability:- The scheduled Lakeside vs Swindon will take out Lawson, Grajczonek, Tungate, & Wright & Erik Riss will be in the U-21 at Pardubice the same night. There might also be Danish fixtures next Friday which affect Peterborough's Danes, plus Rene Bach. Also Richard Hall might be en route to Germany for the final Long Track GP on Saturday and his absence would only allow a NL guest. I would guess that next Thursday would be the only feasible day when a fixture could be staged, but I think that's Greyhound racing night at the Stadium.
  2. Interesting article in the Newcastle vs Edinburgh prog about a local supporter with an engineering background who has proposed replacing the starting gate & tapes with a laser beam arrangement for both the front and rear areas which might also eliminate movement before the start. In theory, it would appear to be a more reliable and effective system, and I would guess that it would not be too costly. Hope this idea gets to the prototype testing stage as it could improve this part of racing.
  3. Must have been lucky as Charlie was through at Edinburgh as a spectator and was walking beside where the riders loaded their bikes in Clockmill Road at the end. He was pictured on the front page of the programme in an action shot from the previous week and I politely asked him to sign it. He carefully autographed the front and it is the neatest example I have ever got. Mind you he never said a word. I also remember a pal telling me about an incident he witnessed in a GB vs Sweden Test at Glasgow White City in 1967. Charlie was partnered by Ron Mountford who wiped out himself & his partner in a nasty crash. Apparently Nigel Boocock ran from the pits and uttered to a prostrate Mountford, "Why the f*** did you do that?" Charlie never spoke a word, but waited till Ron had recovered and then promptly smacked him!
  4. L to R Gordon, Barney, & Dave Kennett , I think
  5. Six Years ago - are we referring to 2010 ? Because if so, I think you must have got your year mixed up, re Newcastle, - here's a link to the 2010 PL table FYI :- http://www.speedwaygb.co/premierleaguetable10
  6. It was 2012 when Newcastle topped the Table with 51 pts from Scunny on 50, but Scunny won the Play-Offs, and were Champions Since then, the team topping the Table have also won the Play-Off, namely 2013 Somerset (56 pts), & Edinburgh in 2014 (74 pts) & 2015 (61pts).
  7. You should wind your neck in before jumping in with both feet. I was referring to newcomers to the Somerset team! Quite aware of their previous history.
  8. Well done to the Rebels who had the courage to go for Tungate, Allen, & Wilson-Dean as newcomers, which I doubt were much fancied by other sides at the start of the Season. Like some others, I would prefer the team that finishes top of the table to be crowned Champions, but accept that the Play-Offs are now how it goes. Still reckon Rebels could still sweep the board for the major PL team trophies.
  9. If Anders Thomsen was already scheduled to ride in Poland today, you might have had to go with a NL rider as Thomsen has not yet ridden for the Panthers this Season
  10. It has previously been mentioned on another website that South African, Keith Harvey ( born Verulam, South Africa, 1896 ) was the last 19th Century rider in league racing, having ridden for New Cross in the early part of 1947.
  11. A bit tasteless speculating on Phillips being potentially injured, imo
  12. Re Friday's meeting, this quote from the Edinburgh website is worth mentioning:- "The collection for the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund on Friday raised the magnificent sum of £1580.45. Thanks to all who contributed so generously and to the riders of both teams who enthusiastically uplifted the collection." P.S. My donation went in Aaron Summers bucket
  13. More weasel words from you, which try to wriggle out of what and when you posted. On this thread, on post #71 you state you did not know about the SMS (sent at 15:14 on Friday 15th July), until Sunday 17th July. So explain if you already knew about the SMS on the Sunday, why did you post on the Scunthorpe vs Edinburgh on Monday 18th July ( # 69 , 10:44 AM)) the following:- "Al, if one were cynical, one might suggest that Edinburgh were well aware of the obvious error in the NL Green Sheets regarding Davey, and announced his presence as late as possible (late yesterday morning), to try to stop anybody spotting it in time. Unfortunately for them, Scunny did, and placed a protest in time." Seems as you are the one using an inverted calendar, I’ve highlighted the events in chronological order, namely Friday, 15th July, Sunday 17th July, and Monday 18th July to help you understand how time progresses Regarding who is the troll, just remind everyone who initially referred to the Scunthorpe vs Edinburgh match on this Edinburgh vs Glasgow thread, – I’ll give you a clue, see post #20
  14. You liked LS initially raising the issue on post #20 and then further approved his input on #33 & #46 on here, so don't come the irritated onlooker when an Edinburgh fan responds to his accusations.
  15. So why did you, later in post 69 ( 18 July 2016 - 10:44 AM) state the following:- "Al, if one were cynical, one might suggest that Edinburgh were well aware of the obvious error in the NL Green Sheets regarding Davey, and announced his presence as late as possible (late yesterday morning), to try to stop anybody spotting it in time. Unfortunately for them, Scunny did, and placed a protest in time." You state above that you "didn't find out until Sunday", re "that SMS", yet post 69 was posted on the Monday ! Not Bonkers, but able to spot a Phoney Poster
  16. Here is the verbatim extract from the SCB Statement of 22/7/2016 :- "Furthermore, Edinburgh advised Scunthorpe by SMS at 15:14 on Friday 15th July (72 hours prior to the Meeting Start time) of the fact that Mitchell Davey would be the G rider replacing Dan Bewley." Are you implying that the veracity of the SCB statement is false and your allegation of events is true and accurate? I know who I believe, and perhaps the SCB and the BSPA will not take too kindly to Scunthorpe Speedway's Press Officer publicly accusing them of issuing false content and refusing to retract his comments.
  17. Congratulations to the Tigers on progressing to the Semi-Final without any difficulty after their emphatic victory in the First Leg. With Somerset unable to call on Dan Bewley to guest, should Wajknecht, still be on the sidelines, the Ashfield leg, should favour Glasgow, though not having Lunna at reserve will diminish their potential fire power. However over the two legs of this Semi, the Rebels will be considered favourites to be aggregate winners. This Topic which you involved yourself in :- Glasgow V Edinburgh Ko Cup Sunday 31 July 2016 Started Jul 16 2016 and which you avoided responding to the specific points raised in the following posts:- #81 Oh & BTW still awaiting for you to acknowledge that you falsely stated the Monarchs had advised the change on the Sunday morning which was exposed as untrue in the SCB Statement. Here's the link as it appears you might not have read this:- http://www.speedwayg...hp?extend.30910 #107 Furthermore, as you are still avoiding admitting you made a false accusation in post #69 on the Scunny vs Edinburgh thread, asserting Edinburgh only informed Scunny of the change, late Sunday morning, When you have been found out making a false accusation, why not admit it Rob?
  18. So speaks the individual who was exposed as posting a complete falsehood on the Forum but never had the decency to admit it. Hardly a trustworthy source.
  19. Ken Le Breton rode for Newcastle 47/48 & Glasgow Ashfield(The Giants) 49/50
  20. Cannot see the overall score ever being in doubt that the Tigs will progress, even if Ryan Fisher had not broken two bones in his foot. Just looking forward to some decent racing on a dry evening with hopefully, Dan Bewley continuing his progress as he appears to now glide effortlessly in full flight.
  21. Not tracks in part of the UK, so therefore do not count.
  22. Willie Templeton also rode at Dunmore Stadium, Belfast on 8th July, 1968 scoring 15 pts for "Scotland" against "Belfast", for whom Brother Doug rode for. Willie also rode in a couple of matches at Wigan Poolstock in 1960 (Ken McKInlay rode at the Wigan Woodhouse Lane in 1952 btw) Neither Doug or Willie Templeton rode at Neath in 1962, as the Neath vs Edinburgh match was raced at St Austell. The only Edinburgh rider to race at Neath was Dudley McKean in a World Championship Round.
  23. It was mentioned that lack of local able bodied volunteers when needed to lay the covers is a problem. As Armadale was the nearest venue to Edinburgh to be granted permission for speedway (after Appeal btw), it is still over 20 miles from the city centre, so that probably restricts volunteer availability.
