Berwick V Glasgow Cl Sat July 15th At 7pm
cyclone replied to Paulco's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Your point about why apparently no effort was made to carry out remedial work on the track after ht14, given the improving weather conditions, at least deserves a public explanation from the Berwick Promotion. If no public statement is forthcoming from Bandits by midweek, may I suggest you raise the matter directly with them. -
Edinburgh Vs Newcastle (sgbc) 14/7/2017

Try freeze framing when the riders are lined up, and if you honestly still maintain that Masters foot is touching the white line, then you really need to have your eyesight checked as you also appear to be unable to recognise Masters left foot from his right -
Despite the intermittent rain, the racing was decent and very competitive, with Diamonds unlucky to have Lewis Rose fall and sustain a nasty injury during ht 12. Up to that point the scores had been level, and the final outcome was in the balance. Here is a facebook link to the post match analysis, including interviews with Robert Lambert & Sam Masters :- https://www.facebook.com/edinburghmonarchs/videos/1492643774105055/ Uncharacteristically, Ludvig Lindgren had a major strop with with the Start Marshall after ht15, whom he allegedly called an f-ing cheat because he wouldn't move Masters over in gate 1 before the start. Well for Ludvig and anyone else who is interested, here is a short video on facebook of the start of ht15, which you can judge for yourself :- https://www.facebook.com/mike.hunter.9693/videos/1538433849540589/

Riss does not race in Poland, but I do not know if he is riding in Germany at the weekend. I thought the one league work visa restriction on Commonwealth riders had been relaxed and was the reason why the likes of Justin Sedgmen is able to race in both the PL & CL. -
The Tapes & Unsatisfactory Starts
cyclone replied to Shockster's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Out of interest what would the costs be and what is the source to substantiate your claim? There will no doubt be an existing maintenance cost for starting gates which can malfunction in various ways, which together with the re-runs of unsatisfactory starts, add to further meeting delays Maybe you consider delays to be part of the Speedway experience -

Not many decent guests available on Saturday - Barker, Riss or Tungate at 1, Hopwood, Bowtell, or Parkinson-Blackburn at 7? -
Edinburgh V Berwick 7th July
cyclone replied to allthegearbutnaeidea's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
atm, various weather forecasts for Friday are reasonably good, indicating there is only a slight chance of light rain for a short period during the afternoon & evening. Summers for Morris, & Shuttleworth for Payne should not weaken the Bandits, whereas Schlein & Sedgmen might score slightly less than Masters & Wells would for the Monarchs. Apart from Jacobs, the rest of the Bandits have previously recorded decent scores at the Dale, so this might be a fairly close contest tomorrow. -
The Tapes & Unsatisfactory Starts
cyclone replied to Shockster's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I have no technical knowledge of transponders, but the above, taken from an earlier topic sounds like a possible solution. It also appears that races could be started by means of lights, as per motor racing, thereby dispensing with unreliable starting gate & tapes. Does anyone know if this has been considered or trialed previously? -
Taken From Matt Jackson's excellent rider profile for 1928 on Speedway Researcher Website:- COFFEY, Larry Born: Ireland The first time Larry appeared in the results was when he rode a BSA machine at Wolverhampton on June 9, 1928. He soon began to ride at the London tracks and appeared at Lea Bridge and Stamford Bridge in July. He won the novice final at Lea Bridge in early August and followed this up with a win in the Senior Grand Prix at Stamford Bridge. Larry rode all around the country and had a spell in the north-west with outings at Rochdale, Bolton, Salford and Manchester White City. He ended the year by riding at the Boxing Day meeting at Cardiff Again from Researcher Website, Coffey does appear in 1929 Southern League heat details, appearing several times for White City, his last league match being recorded as WC vs Perry Barry on 6/9/1929 where he won his first two heats, and run last in his third due to engine trouble. (page 52) Here is a link:- http://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/slresults.pdf

Dunmore also apparently held 3 meetings in 1968, including a 16 heat Challenge match vs Scotland on 8th July, which I obtained the programme for, from an Edinburgh fan who attended the fixture.
-
Well he did six meetings for Berwick in 2013.
-
Season tickets were costed on the basis of admission to 18 league matches and 1 ko cup match. Any additional meetings would be charged, and outwith BSPA events, Season Ticket Holders would also be offered a discounted admission price. This was publicised and transparent by the Promotion before ST's went on sale.

Ed Kennett has been released by Rye House, and his converted Championship average would be 8.26, meaning he would be an injury replacement for Garrity (8.36).
-
Interestingly Kennett on 6.88 (CL), 8.26(PL) could replace Garrity at Redcar as an injury replacement

Absent Friends:- Lambert 10.13 (adjusted home GSA), S. Worrall 9.25 (adjusted home GSA) & Morris 9.33 Possible Replacements Based on GSA (but dependent on availability in the UK) from Championship: Masters 8.93, Wells 8.40 (assuming USA no longer involved),Lawson 9.19, Summers 8.98, R.Worrall 8.95, Grajczonek 9.46 (only for Lambert), Howarth 8.19 From Premier (x 1.2): Scott Nicholls 8.80, Edward Kennett 8.26 Take your pick - my guess Grajczonek & Richie Worrall for Diamonds, Summers for Berwick

Henny Kroeze Henk Steman Snr Theo Pijper Rudy Muts Fritz Koppe

Roy Bester was quite decent in the second tier in the UK, 1953 - 54, better than Wills or Serrurier did.
-
Surely the best Irish born rider must be Eric French (mainly New Cross) who was good enough to ride for England in test matches during 1949 - 50.
-
Apparently NOT in the change as to how the rolling averages are calculated according to at least one Promotion, and has been imo, the major source of discontent, alleged fiddling, rider insecurity, etc.

Glasgow V Ipswich Ch - Saturday 24 June 7pm
cyclone replied to SharpenRake's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Re the tyre packing of the track, does anyone know if the home riders were consulted on this before it took place? It would be crazy for any home side to regrade a track to suit the visitors more than their own. Quite a few years ago I remember Chris Neath moaning that Armadale was too grippy for them and foolishly all the dirt was scraped off and Rye House revelled so much in the slick conditions that from a losing position, they ended up winning the bl**dy match -

If JP is really going to kick on, he really needs to work on improving his woeful gating. Given he must fully aware of his shortcomings in this department, I'm puzzled why he never takes advantage of after meeting track time to try different things out, possibly with advice from a more experienced team mate who can gate, such as Sam or Erik? -
It's Bo "The Bomb" Josefsson in conversation with Bernie Persson, probably 1967. Jim Gallacher was a talent and could beat the best when he managed to get his bike going! He first appeared in second halves at Coatbridge in 1969 when the Monarchs were the home side. It always appeared Jim never had the finance to run decent equipment and this was imo, why he never became a top rider. When he returned from Swindon to Tigers at Coatbridge, he was the "victim" of one of the worst homer refereeing decisions I have witnessed at Eastbourne by a Mr Gordon Little. The rule at that time was you only got excluded for breaking the tapes, not for touching or delaying the start, and there was no replacement. Neil Middleditch totally destroyed the tapes and Little excluded JG on the pretext that he had caused NM to break the tapes, which a) was not within the rules at that time, and b ) Jim had not moved from the grid, but had just crouched over his handlebars when Middleditch shot off!!
