Belle Vue V Sheffield - Mon 26th @ noon
flagrag replied to GeneralMelchett's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It’s a rule that no other Speedway can be shown online if a Eurosport meeting is taking place. Due previous rain off there was always a good possibility that there would be a TV meeting next Monday to fill the contractual obligation . At least KL should have a good pick of guests -

I have to agree production quality this year has been very poor with awful camerawork, bad vision mixing and poor directing The article below has a crucial statement saying that the broadcaster Eurosport had asked the OB provider to cut costs which they have done they are using an older OB truck with old cameras which is showing on screen with bad pictures , less experienced staff using Uni students for some roles but that’s what you get when you cut the budgets so much https://www.svgeurope.org/blog/headlines/experimenting-with-power-cloudbass-pushing-the-boundaries-of-sustainable-production-on-speedway-with-tesla-powerwall-batteries/ -
I am thinking about coming up to Oxford on Sunday to watch the Leicester meeting. However I understand that the Unipart car park is closed and have been advised not to park in the housing estate so any suggestions on where else I could park ?

Leicester vs Oxford PL R2 19/08/2024
flagrag replied to IainB's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
This fixture was due to be televised but was changed to give Ipswich a TV meeting and commercially it would have been wrong to put it up against Leicester vs Spurs premiership football so any casual fans will likely choose the football. It is expected that live footage of Leicester vs Oxford will be shown during the Ipswich vs Sheffield match This will possibly be Leicester’s lowest attendance of the season with the football on as well. The club could have easily looked to move this fixture to next week BH Monday if it’s wet and don’t go ahead Leicester may not be able to restage it before cut off so best to get match raced and hopefully points on the table -
Well in my mind that was an ok GP track was as expected with an average crowd unsure how Benfield make it pay though with all the costs that Cardiff involves but then selling lots of £15-20 tickets to try and fill specific areas for tv . i remover in the Sky days having a long conversation with John Posselwaite where he showed me how Cardiff was the most expensive event to put on with stadium hire even down to costs of bringing equipment over as we are an island that’s even 225 miles from ferry port. So whether this is a massive tax loss for Benfield’s other ventures not really sure. To me it was obvious that WBD Speedway operations team have had their mind elsewhere at the Olympics I think it was BMX,Canoeing and Judo that they were responsible for. it appears to have been a very half hearted production with no celebrities invited along to increase wider awareness of Speedway (Ronnie O Sullivan for example got over 500,000 interactions when he attended ), Pre meeting entertainment non existent,No wire camera for TV, less camera angles available, no winners parade and a very low key fireworks compared to previous years. However the result on track with British 1 and 2 was amazing hopefully both Dan and Robert can continue this GP form going forward. As a side note did anyone go to the Monster/ Woffy afterparty at Walkabout ? I wanted to go but knew Tai’s harder side of dance/techno would not have been to my wife’s liking so instead settled for a meal and a few cocktails

As explained to crowd last night by Stewart she was due to be induced twice as needs a C section but has been cancelled twice so fingers crossed baby should be born by Tuesday. Drew Kemp is guesting on Monday at Birmingham and he is looking forward to riding for Leicester again

I have it on good authority that unfortunately Bewley was knocked out for a good few mins hence the delay so I would expect minimum of 7 days. There was also a query over whether may have broken wrist so that maybe more what they are treating in Poland

A technical trial tonight that has not worked out as expected another cost saving move that shows things sometimes be left as they are -
Leicester Lion Cubs vs Oxford Chargers NDL 23rd June

No it was a FIM Grasstrack meeting and was rearranged due to poor weather in France on Saturday. In fact it was the other way around if he had chose to return and ride for Leicester he would have got banned as he had signed into a FIM meeting -
The key will be in the lock and is just waiting to be turned . Could a move be made to release Masters and Cook to put Becker at reserve

Not sure who he is riding for but Tom Brennan is riding at Leicester on Thursday so would assume that’s for Lawson but may be for Kings Lynn https://x.com/tombrennan27/status/1800111383004188915?s=46&t=VcpkOw3_5aPDHmLdpvaeng -
As the SGP2 series is about driving online viewership on Discovery + it’s is likely that American and Australian riders commercially add little as the series is not available in these markets on D+ Doubtful any more Polish, Danish or Swedish rider will be added but expect Blodorn and possible another British rider to be included

British Final 2024

Such a shame that all the young Brits are away this weekend at the SGP2 qualifiers as would have been good experience for Dan Thompson and Ashton Boughghen I wonder who will be the next replacement -
Poole have made a great signing with Vinnie he is all action and can pass riders well he is not scared to mix it. Hopefully he can settle in quickly and get good support from Lawson and Brennan along with picking up some sponsors to ensure his equipment remains at Championship standard . I think Max Perry should continue with NL and maybe could do a job at Plymouth

That is what Max Fricke thought last night that due to this rule he would be in at Prague however Phil Morris has advised differently if Doyle is medically passed fit by FIM doctor then he can take his place in GP. The FIM regulations which the PZM have agreed to appear to allow him to ride in GPs if fit -

What did you think was wrong with the Drone shots ? I would much rather see the surrounding area than pictures of Bill and Florence sitting in the stands eating their Cheese Sandwich and cup of Bovril . i don’t like the FPV done in GP when it’s trying to chase the racing but last nights worked well -

Just got back and watched some of the Eurosport coverage I have to say actually the TV production was better tonight than previous meetings . The Camera angles looked better and racing kept in focus , I liked the aerial drone footage as well to give good beauty shots without disrupting like it is in the GPs However as others have commented Speedway does need dual commentary for TV I know Louis was at Birmingham and Steady had been at Belle Vue all day but am sure they could have found a rider from another track Josh Pickering, Rory Schlein etc -
More long term user and that is also the reason why the laboratory has suggested the hair sampling to confirm he is long term clean . What I do not understand is when these riders get caught they know they are guilty why do they come up with these excuses like Complin with a Mouth Abcess treatment. All they do is destroy their reputation further as get proven as a liar as well If this has been genuine and Lee had told the Faceena’s this I am confident a well paid lawyer would have been able to defend this case and provided multiple medical experts to end with just missing the meetings that he has done

It may well be a cost issue with Janowski as he was signed as No1 at Oxford will be on a guarantee whether he scores 1 or 15pts so if you then bring in a GP big star that wants 5-7k Guarantee as well may be too expensive for the Spires -

Would be very expensive Sheffield team but if Oxford sign rumoured new GP star No1 before the next TV meeting at Leicester then Janowski fits to replace Howarth that is what Woffy was hinting at . -
Iainb- The club have tried to help Joe with extra assistance in the pits and the more senior riders including Greg Hancock have provided guidance and advice. Joe has not been enjoying his Premiership racing and it shows in his performances he has been riding different lines to what he does in NL and Championship at Leicester. His confidence is very low and that showed even on track walk last night and it was felt best to try another option before it affects Joe’s championship form as well . Sam Hagon is a tidy rider who listens well and yes like other RS riders this may be a bit soon for him but with confidence may pick up some points . I don’t think any changes that clubs make now are going to make them into title contenders it’s what changes happens early July time that will be the decider
-
William Cairns is not 15 until June so another year yet ! As others have said on this thread very little options for RS on paper and NL form J Thompson should be better than Jake Mulford, Freddy Hodder, Max Perry and Ben Trigger If Oxford drop Boughen for Sam Hagon would he be any better ? Would Ben Barker or Paco Castagna be better than Drew Kemp ? Leicester cannot fit in Lewi Kerr / Craig Cook so options appear limited to make changes at Leicester at the moment

Robert will be back in the UK at the end of July /First week of August just before the cut off for changes in fact he probably he has already got a deal lined up like another GP star has to come in for last few weeks
