I think you mean Dirt Track champion Big Fella, although prior to the speedway comeback he was doing road racing. It hasn't been mentioned much but I do believe he was also a pretty decent junior speedway rider at one stage. -

As a neutral I can tell you from my observations that both Tungate and Poole are riding very well at the moment. Not much to choose between the two of them but my opinion is that Tungate will be a superb reserve, and could well be pushing for an heat leader spot very quickly. I'd say very very hard riding was the cause. The initial attempt at a pass appeared like a desperate move but Kozza didn't give an inch in the run in to the line and came off worse. It looked nasty, I think Batch is lucky to have avoided injury himself. From his first ride he didn't seem quite 100%, and I guess the back injury combined with a bout of food poisoning and the enforced bike problems later on took there toll. Both Brisbane meeting were very well run, and produced good quality racing. Certainly set the benchmark for the remaining two rounds. Tungate has really taken my eye and I predict him to the the sensation of 2012. Absolutely fantastic crowd, by far the biggest I've seen at North Brisbane, even without the likes of Crump and local boy Darcy Ward, imagine if they had rode? we'd still be lining up to get out of the place.

Its not very often we get to see two meetings on consecutive days, so really looking forward to this Friday and Saturday. The qualifier on Friday throws down all kinds of possibilities and I'm expecting a shock or two. One rider who has really taken my eye in recent months is Ryan Douglas, he could sneak in, but this may be a year too soon for him, either way he's quite new to speedway after a successful junior dirt track career, a career path that tends to produce quality riders in Australia. My tips to qualify; Masters, Tungate, Horwood (its his home track), and Nelson, it gets very tricky for the final three spots, and this is where I expect one or two surprises. Its going to be very interesting.

I've seen Tungate race a couple of times now (he led Chris Holder for almost three laps at Kurri Kurri on Boxing Day) and Holder had a hell of a job passing him, in a race that featured Jason Crump and Dave Watt (he beat Watt). He will be the Witches trump card, without a doubt. His outstanding performances will hide the fact that Heeps will take a little longer to gel than many think IMHO. -

One of the best individual lineups we'll see in Australia this summer. Should be a cracker...who in their right mind would choose to watch car racing ahead of this? -
I must admit to being astonished that after getting a 125cc Moto GP spot Arthur is still going to compete in speedway events. Talk about putting everything on the line. That said, I for one will be watching the result of this one very eagerly. The boy is obvioulsy keeping his options open at this stage....

Thats a shame. There will be lots of speedway fans in town on the Sunday. I remember the day after the Sydney GP, Gosford pulled in a big crowd the next night. -

Anything planned for the day after the Grand Prix? -
Still waiting to get an update on Scott Smith, there were real concerns for him last night, it didn't look good at all. He slowed going into the third bend on the last lap and lost control, falling very awkwardly and was being treated on track for a long time, I believe he was stabilised prior to be taken to hospital but the arrival of police etc had a few fans thinking the worst. Not a bad meeting but quite a number of heavy falls, Clinton Dennis pulled out with a suspected broken ankle, Michael penfold withdrew after two rides (no idea why), Smith had an earlier fall as well. The solo final was run in atrocious conditions, but the winner was never in doubt. Josh Grajczonek was pretty well untroubled all night, although both Nick Morris and Josh Auty led him briefly in the heats, he went round the outside of Auty as if he was standing still on the 3rd/4th bends on lap one and out powered Morris down the back straight in their heat. The Poms found this one a little tougher, although Auty was very good value, and Richie Worrall impressed in a couple of heats and threw a final spot away after bneing passed by Daimon Koppe in the semi. The top three was as per the script, the last final position could have gone to anyone, with Horwood looking capable as well.

Aussies with dual patriality do not need anything other than a passport, it is very simple. They can get the Aussie passport through birth rights and British through parents or grandparents, thats all there is to it. Due to the delay I get the impression Cameron is having problems getting a British passport????????????????????? -
I don't quite understand either. Most of the Aussies with dual nationality get two passports, they do not need visas.

Season Opener At North Brisbane

Its very early in the morning here in Brisbane but the weather is looking pretty good so far. Fingers crossed for great racing tonight, a shame the sidecar field has been depleted but the eight solo boys all have a little quality about them. I'll refrain from commenting too much on why Jayden O'Malley isn't riding, needless to say the NBJMC needs to try to get a new race secretary trained up....before the South QLD Solo production line dries up completely... -

Someone gave me some valuable advice when my young lad was progressing, he said when they start to say "he is dangerous" you know they are taking him serious. Likewise with Garrity, he can and most likely will turn into a very very good rider sooner rather than later, and he's already a very serious competetor at this level. He can be totally roar one lap then do something very special the next, the roarness will dissapear very soon I think. -

The only thing to compare dirt track with moto cross is the bikes. They are moto cross bikes, usually lowered and tuned for speed. Most of the Aussie speedway riders progress from this form of racing. -
