Nick Morris' Final Junior Speedway Ride
whowasthatberntpersson replied to lance52m's topic in International World of Speedway
The BSPA website is incorrect, he will be on a 3 point average. Being born in a place doesn't automatically give someone patriality either, which I find suprising. Kings Lynn bound Alex Davies just found that out. -
Nick Morris' Final Junior Speedway Ride
whowasthatberntpersson replied to lance52m's topic in International World of Speedway
Lucas, you don't get it do ya? It wasn't a pointless 125cc race for Nick or indeed Lance, it was his last ever ride on that bike. Its a shame you think 125's are pointless because they are the main reason Aussies are producing so many good kids....125cc racing on mini tracks. Have a think about that before getting the heebie geebies about young Aussies nicking team spots....oh and Nick's got a British passport, Brit parents and Grandparents. So stick that up ya jumper... -
Grand Prix In Australia And New Zealand?
whowasthatberntpersson replied to Dexter's topic in International World of Speedway
A stadium with a roof would have to be on the agenda, not sure whether the cost involved in hiring the edihad stadium would fit in the budget. My next pic after Ethiad Stadium would be Brisbane's "Ekka" although I don't know what politics would be involved in staging the event there. I personally don't like the current Newcastle Showground track...its way too big, and the racing isn't that good but I'd watch a GP in Australia wherever its held.. -

I hear they looked at Newcastle Showgrounds, but surely the current track would be too big? -
Australian Under 16 Title Tamworth
whowasthatberntpersson replied to philmac's topic in International World of Speedway
Brady and Arthur were obviously quicker than the rest of the field, riding a different line to the others. A couple of the boys are just too big for the 125's now (Medson and Morris in particular), Medson also suffered a bit of bad luck on the night. One for the future - Max Fricke. Very slick track, and interesting to see the contrasting scores from the following days pairs meeting which was run on a much more challenging track. -
It was a bit of a gaters paradise, and very very tight for the 3 direct A final spots, the three that qualified directly were (Morris 14, Medson 13, Blain 13). Sissis (13) missed out on countback and had to do it via the B final. Not sure why Dane Cartwright failed to appear for the B Final, with only three riders starting the race. Cartwright was the second qualifier with 11 points?????? The other B finalalists were surprise packet Michael Detenon and Cameron Heeps?) Morris was only beaten by Blain in the heats, but trailed Sissis from the start in the final.

Final 1st Darcy Ward 2nd Damion Koppe 3rd Mitchell Davey Joe Haines DNF in Final Mitchell Davey won the B final. Support solos were won by Guy Mallett 350cc's 1st Nick Morris 2nd Michael Detenon 3rd Hayden Barr Nick Morris and Hayden Barr (both 15) also did demos on the 500's Sidecars 1st Cafe 2nd Newman 3rd Aldridge 4th Munck Very good meeting in front of a large crowd. The big fast Maryborough track stood up well to an enormous amount of events. Highlights for me were the clash between Scott Smith and Darcy Ward (Smith made the slightest mistake and Ward was through but Smith fought back..very close) , Smith was also involved in a very good race with Craig Hyde who held him off for three laps after a great outside swoop where he also overtook Mitchell Davey). Joe Haines was the top scorer in the heats and he had a real battle with Ward as did Damion Koppe. Haines led the final briefly until his spak plug cable came adrift. Due to the success of this meeting organisers are looking at bigger events and more regular racing.

Ozchamps 2010,
whowasthatberntpersson replied to BigFatDave's topic in International World of Speedway
Kozza won all the races he was in, I think he pulled out of the last one which Michael Penfold won. He won the first three quite easily, Penfold was a little closer in the fourth. -

Here in Queensland riders ages vary from 7 to 16, it used to be 9-16 in New South Wales. The standards vary enormously, so it can be quite tough for the kids starting out who sometimes have to ride against the older more experinces kids. Riders must nominate for the Australian Under 16 Championships and generally places are allocated based on performances in the various State Titles. Looking at the lineup Queensland have been given six spots, an indicator of the strength of junior speedway in that particular state, the six were the top six in the Queensland State Championships. By the way it now looks like the Australian Under 16 350cc Title will be held at Tamworth on the same weekend, it was originally penned in for Kurri Kurri the week before but the Kurri track has not been given a licence yet. BFD - The Under 16's are not taught how to lay a bike down anymore and are definately not required to do that before they can race (although it would obvioulsy be preferable if they could). They do have to receive eight hours coaching each year before a licence can be renewed and this is annotated in a log book.

Sam Masters continued his amazing form last night; Masters made the gate in the final and held on for the win against Chris Holder and Jason Doyle, another local young hot shot "Michael Penfold" was fourth. Taylor Poole took a very heavy fall in the heats, slamming into the fence at a rate of knots, not sure of any injuries at this stage, but he was taken straight to hospital. Individual scores. Chris Holder 15 Taylor Poole 5 Nick Rowe 1 Bryce Johnston 1 Jason Doyle 13 Michael Penfold 9 Joey Ringwoold 4 Daine Stevens 4 Sam Masters 14 Mason Campton 8 Todd Kurtz 7 Michael Dyer 2 Alex Davies 9 Tim Heffernan 6 Daniel Begley 9 Jay Herne 12 -

The New South Wales Under 16 350cc Championship was held on the same day. Twelve riders competed with the top three going directly to the A Final, and a B Final to decide the last qualifier. 1st Nick Morris 2nd Dylan Blain 3rd Bryce Johnson 4th Dane Cartwright. Blain won the B final ahead of Harley Brigden and Robert Gottardi -
Nick is in Scunthorpe for the weekend, and will be riding in the Amatuer meeting on Saturday. Realistically he has very little chance of getting a ride on Friday night, I'm not about to get into any arguments but I can't recall a third reserve getting too many opportunities in any individual meeting I've ever seen. Who said Nick wouldn't ride for GB????????????
-
The ones I know for sure are; Mason Campton 15 (16 in November), Bryce Johnston 15 (16 in December) Robert Branford 15, Penfold is about 17 and Cathcart 18. Jake Anderson must be the oldest by a year or two out of that lot but I'd be guessing. Excuse my ignorance but I've never heard of Jackson Milne.

whowasthatberntpersson replied to carlisle_comet's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
I'll be visiting the UK with my Son for a few weeks in late August. We hope to ride in a few Acadamy events as well as amateur and second half stuff at various tracks. Be great to catch up with parents and kids at some of the tracks. -
2009 Youth Gold Trophy
whowasthatberntpersson replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
I'm almost certain less riders nominated from Australia. None of the top four from the Australian Under 16 Titles are in the event, although Brady Kurtz was very very unlucky not to make the podium in the Aussie Under 16 Title in january. It all comes down to expense and the fact that quite a few of the top Aussie juniors have given the small bikes away to concentrate on 350's or 500's or simply can't afford to enter. -
2009 Youth Gold Trophy
whowasthatberntpersson replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
Not so many Aussies competing this year, although I'm sure the three youngsters from OZ will give their all. Brady Kurtz is a real dark horse, he'll be in the thick of the action, Cameron Heeps may do well too but I don't think Matthew Day is up to this level of competition. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Kurtz does very well here, he's a tiny rider who was very unlucky in this year's Aussie Under 16 Championships. -

I think our system would work better if the talented riders were allowed to ride 500's before they turn 16, similar to how 15 year olds can ride in the National League in England. At the moment they can ride 350cc machines from 14 - 16, but even if the kids are very good on the 350's they can only practice alone on 500cc bikes from 15 years old (and the powers that be even tried to stop that) As for teams/league racing in Australia, the distances involved and current lack of riders would prevent it. There could be one off teams meetings but any regular league setup would be too expensive for our clubs to even consider.
