Looking forward to some trips to Bandit territory...very soon - I'm sure he'll do a great job. -
Leicester - Swindon 1.4.17
whowasthatberntpersson replied to A ORLOV's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I enjoyed last night. The track changes look very positive, and I think this track will produce much better racing once the outside beds in. I noticed the grader wasn't going anywhere near the outside on turns one and two last night, maybe its still a little soft after the recent rain? Nice to see a decent crowd, last year the attendances definitely dropped off. A positive start for Leicester speedway. On another note, I just wish the Swindon lot would back off their riders, it was the first meeting for some of these guys, definitely the first premiership meeting. Give them a chance for gods sake. On this particular night, Jason Doyle's below par performance was far more telling than others. Fickle.com -
Cradley Vs Colts 28/03
whowasthatberntpersson replied to coldace's topic in National League Speedway
He looked very special to me, obviously a little raw and impatient, however I'm predicting big things from him, based on this one meeting. Fact is, he had the beating of Max Clegg until he gifted him a pass in one heat, and had plenty of speed throughout. -
Agreed, this is a major own goal by the Swindon management. Nick has recently signed a contract with Wroclaw, who are using a squad system, they have pre season training at Saddlebow road leading up to the meeting with the Stars. Morris and Doyle were both told they could ride. The sudden change means Morris has now had to tell Wroclaw he can't ride. It leaves Nick Morris in particular in a very awkward position. He's gone from having the chance to cement his place in the Wroclaw team, to now being forced into riding in a meeting which although is good practice, compares little to the opportunities the Lynn meeting could have had. The ramifications are far deeper than at first glance.

Prague 2016
whowasthatberntpersson replied to acef's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It gets a bit dusty on turns one and two but not too bad at the back. As others have said beware of the taxis back to Prague after the meeting, they will rip you off big time. Seems to be an even spread as far as fans go. Decent boozer with cheap beer just over the road from the stadium. -
Teterow 2016
whowasthatberntpersson replied to uk_martin's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
First of all, i'm surprised that Teterow got the GP. Its going to take a huge effort to accommodate and transport people to this very sleepy town, infact I have already been told to forget staying anywhere near Teterow as its basically been booked up by BSI / Riders / etc. I actually hired a car and went to both the big grass track meeting and the U21 WTC meeting in 2014 (they were on over the same period), what I found strange was despite the huge crowds, Teterow itself was dead, the limited bars and resteraunts were almost empty. The track was flat and overtaking was difficult, spectator facilities (food, drink, etc, were good though) Gustrow, just half an hour or so up the road is a decent option for digs, there will also be a meeting there on the eve of the GP, and I hear they are putting on transport to the GP (buses). It will be a GP with a difference, but my gut instinct is, the Germans will put on a good show...and the beer will be cold. Ticket prices are very reasonable too. We've decided to go from Brum to Berlin via Munich using Lufthansa, will then hire a car and drive from Berlin and stay a few km's out of Teterow. -
Aussie Speedway Season
whowasthatberntpersson replied to Pinny's topic in International World of Speedway
Interesting thoughts regarding the current state of Australian speedway. What if we added these to the top boys in the current lineup; Chris Holder Troy Batchelor Jason Doyle Rory Schlein Dave Watt Dakota North Not to mention a few others who are sitting this series out, Todd Kurtz, Ryan Douglas, Tyson Nelson, Alex Davies, Cameron Heeps, etc. Things not looking quite so bleak....and there are some good kids coming through as well. -
Looking at those lineup's I honestly think it will be tight between the Aussies, Poles and Danes. Mildura may be a real leveller, as its about as far from a Polish track as you can get. Having said that, even the Aussie boys have little experience there. I wouldn't like to pick a winner but I do think the German's will be a long way off. I think Morris, Kurtz and Fricke should be capable of beating anyone on what is quite a tricky track.

We need to totally disregard the scoreline. This was a very good meeting, which made a mockery of the Newcastle track's reputation. A few observations - Referee made some howlers (Liam Carr made a clear passing move and shouldn't have been excluded in one race) and (Nick Morris was clipped when he fell, again should not have been excluded) Why were Glasgow riders backing off and thus being pipped right on the line (Happened at least 3 times) Terrific travelling support, lord only know's what the normal Brough Park crowds are like. An enjoyable night all things considered.

Wolverhampton V Swindon 10-8-15
whowasthatberntpersson replied to rudger's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Good meeting last night, some very entertaining speedway. Darcy Ward was superb, apart from the young Czech, everyone contributed for the Robins Wolves have put together a team of steady eddies, and were never likely to do much this year. Quite a boring septet imo. The natives are getting restless, even Mr Adams starting to get some blame. Its a shame because the racing at Monmore can be so good. A couple of real racers who aren't over the hill would make the world of difference for Wolves....meanwhile the Robins look to be serious challengers now. The Ward effect has made the difference. -

I don't think so. Most likely return meeting will be Swindon v Coventry on the 13th. -
Rye House V Glasgow 18/7/15
whowasthatberntpersson replied to cityrebel's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Despite all the negative publicity I really enjoyed my visit to Rye house last night. Nice to have a quiet pint with some of the many travelling Glasgow fans in the Rye pub prior to the meeting too. Referee Dave Robinson (not one of my favourites after he wrecked the Coventry v Swindon meeting last year) again made a couple of dubious decisions. Palovora, Pavlova, Palaavara ot whatever he was called last night was the match winner for the Tigers, Holder also rode quite well in place of Howe. Solid performance from the Tigers who overcame a Rockets team who do look to have very weak reserves. Some very good racing, Kennett's last dash win over the Palavaara?? was a highlight, not sure why he had a spit after the race though, nothing to talk about imo, the Swede is as soft as a brush and wouldn't have done anything deliberately. -

Edinburgh Vs Plymouth 26/6/2015
whowasthatberntpersson replied to cyclone's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
The irony of speedway. Recognition that the powers of Edinburgh speedway recognise his talent rather than judge on a one off racing incident. This is classic stuff. -
Interesting discussion and I will attempt to answer some questions. Firstly Nick didn't do the Aussie Under 21's due to logistics - he bases himself in Queensland and just does not have the setup to compete properly in Australia at the moment (without shipping a lot of gear from the UK). Then there's transport issues (Van), tools, mechanics, etc etc. Most of the other Aussies have Family support in Australia, Nick does not. Mark Lemon did try to get extra spots in the World U21 qualifiers, with Nick in mind (he wanted to compete) but it hasn't materialised. As for Poland and Sweden, there have been Polish offers, but they have not been good enough. So many riders being caught out investing huge amounts on extra gear and then not getting the rides, or worse still, not getting paid, why would you until everything is just right. The right offer hasn't happened yet and there is no rush. He's still only 20 (just about to turn 21). He know's what he wants and will wait until the time is right.
