  1. It's not a case of the BSPA sanctioning anything. It's up to the track when the testimonial is held. The season normally starts on the 15th of March, but that is brought forward when Easter falls in March. Ironically, it was brought in to enable clubs to get a decent for their first meeting of the season & another over the Easter weekend. Now it seems that most clubs are delaying their starts until what happens to be Easter weekend. Nothing against Topinka personally, but it's bloody ridiculous to have sneaked in on the night before the Ben Fund. I believe there wasn't a problem with Lindgren running on the Sunday, as Berwick can't anyway - like the GP Qualifier last year, the Ben Fund rain off date will be the Monday. That would have provided competitive practice on Saturday & Sunday, or Sunday & Monday ahead of shipping gear to NZ. Anyone who thinks the PL boys will be looking at it as anything more than competitive practice too is deluding themselves - not that there's anything wrong with that. Should there be a circumstance where Ben Fund proceeds are required by one of those snubbing the meeting, you can bet their hand will be out without delay. All of which to be honest makes what little interest I have in the EL wane a bit more. I hope the crowd & fund raising is all that it should be and all the more credit to the PL riders (& Bomber & Mads etc) for making the effort.
  2. If I was actually concerned about the GPs , I'd say Eurosport would be better for them. Of course they're not shown on British Eurosport at present. But that would hardly be a huge leap. I guess that would involve the world feed commentary, currently by BBC's Darren Fletcher. Another good reason for the switch to be made.
  3. So what, unless you sign up Shouty Bollox that fans are generated - in which case, where are they?
  4. So Murdoch then flogs it to NBC and trousers the cash - the thing that Sky in the UK have overspent massively and THAT is why speedway amongst other (much more well funded) sports are shafted still holds true. And if they did, I guess there'll be pages aplenty on here with sheep THANKING them. If they did pick it up at the last minute, it would be because they'd succeeded in screwing BSI / IMG (actually not a bad thing, in itself). Fast forward 12 months, Sky say to the EL that having paid (say) 40% less for the GPs, take a pittance or leave it. The fat orange cockney will have to settle for a Lexus and the EL will be potless. Yay.
  5. It doesn't lack TV coverage. For that matter, the GPs don't lack TV coverage, at least at this time. It would hardly be a radical leap for Eurosport to taken on the GB broadcasting rights. If they decided to show them live on Eurosport GB, they'd have more exposure than at any other time. But that would be good - so you're not going to consider that, are you?
  6. Because they havent got a pot to p*ss in after BT Vision bid for some football. God forbid that Sky have a competitor, so they overspent ridiculously buying all the football they could, even by sticking another couple of quid a month onto subscriptions. The football is also for Fox in the US (which is why most of the 3pm kick offs can be found on online streams - so Redneck Bill who's just found can see where the next overpaid retiree is coming from to replace David PoshSpice. Early morning fodder, so they can watch Chelsea Cherokees take on Tottenham TYphoons or whatever. Noticed that there's a LOT more cricket on this winter - even more than the ridiculous amount last year? Because Murdoch wants it for Fox in Australia. It's cheap to Sky to put on endless hours of South Africa v Sri Lanka or whatever cobblers is supposed to be "of interest". Just like the Champions League football - who the hell watch Braga v Cluj while Man United played the other team in their group? At least it was amusing to watch all the praise being heaped on Sky for bring us the NZ GP LIVE!!!!!! OMG!!!! THEYRE SOO GOOD TO US!!!! Why? Because they'd booked Hours & hours of cheap satellite time for NZ v Zimbabwe? Rugby League gets @ £90m in a 4 - 5 year contract. Why? Because Murdoch wants it for Australia - that's why it's a summer sport now. So, it's not as if the money that is being spent is being spent on UK viewers - they're a lucrative sideline.
  7. It would be a difficult, what with it being called "The You Kay Speedway Series" and all that. A lesson on the history of restraint of trade and a suggestion to promote a series of speedway meetings by conjuring up a pretend name for the sport. Jesus. The BSF at its best.
  8. Wow! You think it's being paid for? I'm surprised that it hasn't adopted its usual Advent Calendar appearance, but not that it's there. Over the winter it fills 15-20 pages that otherwise would have photos that the Star would need to pay for.
  9. Very questionable I'd guess. Did the expression "restraint of trade" exist in 1964?
  10. I refer to the AA Road Atlas 2013 which includes in some detail the road system in this country. It was this network that allowed, amongst many others, both Bedermark & Lindgren to ride for Newcastle while regularly flying in and out if Stansted. Maybe he just didn't fancy the country lanes of Scrumpyland with its slack jawed yokels holding things up, chugging along on their tractors.
  11. Well done you. It's on the BBC as well - with he additional benefit of not having Sky "presenters".
  12. Fair enough Stekkers, but at this stage, as a potential punter, I'm content that an organisation like the MCF will be more than aware of the requirements to make their meetings happen without calamitous after effects. Bearing in mind the amount of whining & bitching cobblers that gets written on here about the supposed dunderheads at the BSPA, maybe calamitous after effects would be seen as a good thing. Going to leave this alone for a while as the anally retentive anorak wearers seem to have become contagious: I've just realised that the first two venues are owned as opposed to sub-let by the speedway promotions. Coincidence, or planned? Christ, I'll be wearing a bobble hat & caring about auspices next. Maybe.
  13. So, yet more money being thrown after the ridiculous amount already chucked at the M62 corridor's version of rugby by the British subsiduary of Fox Sports in Australia. Still, we do get endless hours of Australian second rate T20 cricket to fill the schedule, so it's not all bed, eh?
  14. A more pertinent question would be "do they have to - these days, under currrent legislation, not what sombody remembers from years ago?"
  15. So, what is it that, as presumably a prospective customer of the series, you think hasn't been "sorted" that is actually relevant to your position as a potential customer? If a new supermarket opens near you, I hope they've got their planning permission, land surveys & building plans available for inspection.
  16. A bit rich, coming from Mr "I know how much but I'm not saying, I'll let those without any knowledge or experience of the subject to make totally uninformed guesses". Are the fictitious clients of your fictitious marketing company impressed that, in the pursuit of perfection you've relinquished all grasp of the English language? "The debate for discussion"???
  17. I think you'll find that would be situation normal for him, rather than the effect of any rule change, but pleased to see a Sheffield-related instance highlighted. With this winter's change, God help those in front when he's third - irrespective of their helmet colour or race jacket.
  18. To be fair, team riding's been screwed for years - made worse by not including bonus points in averages for years. You can guarantee any bonus payments in contracts don't include bonus points & what about a situation where the top 2 in a team are very close on average heading towards (say) the PLRC cut off date? Forget about team riding in Heats 13 & 15 then!
  19. When you go to the theatre or to see a concert, do you check that the Fire Certificate & Public Liability Insurance policy is current & adequatre as well? Without knowing / caring about such things (as a punter, I neither need to know or indeed have any right to know), I'm pretty sure that the MCF is more than capable of considering the implications of hiring venues from stadium owners & hiring the services of the self employed and taking sufficient precautions so that the livlihoods of those involved are not put at risk. If at the end of the day it provides good entertainment & boosts the viability of those taking part being able to take part (not least of all in the activities of their PL clubs in the case of the three named so far) then that's a good thing to be supporting. The rest is paperwork - to be dealt with by others.
  20. So, how much IS it worth? £6m? I'm not interested. Can I pay in instalments? How about £15 a week? I'll take it!
  21. Quite a successful mass debate going on there...... carry on.
  22. Why would any fan have any idea - or reason to care what it's worth? How much do Barclays pay for the Premier League? Is it worth it? How many people have thought "Well, I'm a supporter of a Premier League team, so it's only right & proper that I transfer my banking arrangements to Barclays"? McDonalds are one of the sponsors of the World Cup & the European Championships. Whether I guffed down a Chicken Legend during Euro 2012 or not, it would have been purely coincidental. Come on then, enlighten us all - how much is it worth, based on your expert experience?
  23. With a name like that, I would expect it to be a Speedway Series perhaps for UK riders, certainly held in the UK. The announcement of Kevin Doolan suggests that it'll be perhaps UK based riders. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to read into it. Why would I think it would have the backing of all the Speedway authorities?! I don't know if it has - to be frank, as a supporter who might turn up at one or more of the events, I don't actually care one way or another. Why would I care? Does it need the backing of the authorities? Would the public boycott it if it wasn't fully backed? Would they notice - let alone care? If I was to give any thought to that aspect, I'd imagine those involvedwill have looked into the legal ramifications of their involvment.
  24. UK SPEEDWAY Series? It could be moto cross, it might be 5 a side football… if only there was a clue in the name...
