  1. Much the same as "if you don't like it, don't go" - that has taken the sport to ever-increasing heights of popularity. Brilliant.
  2. The difference is that whereas Sky used to revert to the studio at every opportunity to bring the viewers an update on Ermolenko's progress - or otherwise- in trying to get a grasp on basic English. Maybe not through choice in the short term, Eurosport show much more of the world feed, including the parade & copious replays.
  3. You merely seemed happy to carry on with your theory that Howarth screwed up, irrespective of how far Harrison may have been behind him, and then invented a reason to support your theory. If you're convinced about it, carry on - nothing else meant by my comment.
  4. It doesn't cost a rider anything, but don't let that get in the way of a theory.
  5. Or alternatively he could have chosen to shake things up a bit and get people talking, fired up a little and looking forward to the (then) forthcoming match. Why on earth would anyone want to do that? Had Stead completed a lap, he'd have probably hit double figures, making it much more of a contest than having his rides covered by weak, rookie first time visiting reserves. That would then be an enjoyable fixture, with the right result for the locals, taking delight in showing "the Sheffield blowhard" what's what. As far as "looking foolish", I'm sure it'll be like water off a duck's back. More power to him.
  6. I didn't ask if footage ONLY came from broadband upload - I asked if there were any other programmes using it. From the comments regarding it use in news report programming, I'll take that to be a "No". What I'm paying for is an HD programme - or as Mr Shouty insists on bellowing "glorious High Definition" - except when Sky are playing with toys & broadband, obviously. Congratulations to Sky though on adopting the average speedway fans' attitude to the sport though: "It may be substandard & a bit rubbish, but its better than nothing so lets just be grateful"
  7. Is there a chance that his mum could buy a set of race suits for Berwick next year? Just wondering…
  8. Are there ANY other "HD" sports outside broadcast programmes, for which I'm paying a premium, that involve 4G or even 3G mobile broadband? I doubt you'll need to use both sides of an A4 sheet to list them. As for the toy helicopter - "works better in natural light", so what part of 9pm in April needs to be explained?
  9. Excellent - I'm sure the BSPA will be delighted to receive your sponsorship after they've calculated how much it would cost to revert to tac subs.
  10. No more ludicrous than a Tac Sub, replacing the apparently woeful Koppe with, say, Simon Stead in a heat. It's still a waste of 5 points, even if Koppe was replace with a rider who didn't score 5 a meeting.
  11. So you have no grasp of why the British Final, along with the other national championships are referred to as BSPA Shared Events then. It comes up frequently on almost every thread relating to a Shared Event: venues BID FOR THE EVENTS. If another venue bid more & ensured more cash would be shared out, then they'd be moved.
  12. So, nothing to do with Murdoch coughing up shed loads of cash (what was it? £90M for 5 years at the last renewal?) to use it as TV filler in Australia between the NRL games? Yeah, right.
  13. Yes, let's all be grateful that Sky put themselves out to collect all those direct debits. With just the four channels to fill, with F1 and horse racing on their own channels, it's surprising that they can build in some dirt cheap dirt track action.
  14. So which part of last summer was shorts weather (without wellies?) The end of February through the whole of March would have been the best time to shove the season through. Some tracks might be "iffy", others aren't. Or maybe matches should be called off when it's cold?
  15. But do I colour in the programme differently for those bonus points they're being paid for, to contrast those that they're not paid for?
  16. "Reward for reaching the Final" - it's not a school sports day where "everyone is a winner". The "reward" for reaching the Final is another ride & another opportunity to score points. All sixteen - okay fifteen & a token gesture - have five rides in which to score points to add to their total, building to the end of season table. Finish in the top 8 after 20 heats & you're rewarded with an extra ride in which you have an opportunity to score points that the bottom 8 are denied. Get to the Final & there's another points scoring opportunity. If the opportunity doesn't produce any more points, tough. Wow - Sulky doesn't approve. Big Deal Do you sniff around old girlfriends in the same way that you mooch around moaning about something that supposedly no loger interests you?
  17. Glad to have brought a bit of cheer into your drab existance... If it's not if the rule book, it ain't a rule. A guidence, an instruction, a directive or a policy it may be. But not a rule. Nor is it a Regulation. This year - as covered by the 2013 Regulations. So, not a Regulation. Pretty sure you're not going to grasp it then, after 43 years.
  18. It's not a rule. There are no rules about how riders are paid, and bonus points haven't been used to calculate averages for years. Whether they're paid for them or not is immaterial when it comes to the calculation of scores. If there's that much concern about what riders are & aren't getting paid for, how about when a rider is on a points guarantee but fails to score to that level? He's then getting paid for point he didn't score! A selection of multi coloured pens is surely the only way forward. That way the BSPA will have progressed the sport, making the mundane completion of a programme in monochrome a thing of the past.
  19. The Speedway Mail was one of many publications in the past that inadvertently illustrated just how good the Speedway Star was. That's something that continues to this day. To say the Star carries information already known & in someways makes it less of a publication than before is spurious because 40 years ago there obviously wasn't the online outlets for club information. There's only so much to be written because there's only so much happens. The Star raises the bar, whether its the revamp unveiled this week, features as well as news, it's own online content or wallowing in the past with their Kiwi special. The rest merely follow & generally fail to keep pace. There must be enough material on here now to bash out an article & pass it off as journalism by now - a fitting tribute.
  20. Any idea who's going to provide them with the pictures?
  21. Apart from the seperate channel for F1 - although it did appear that Webber might have had Vettel by the balls when he spoke to him - does that count?
  22. I remember when the Speedway Mail. They used to write their own articles rather than expect the readers to do it for them.
  23. And for all we know, it was sorted in ample time only for circumstances to have changed recently. Of course, that wouldn't be the club's fault, so wouldn't provide a moan.
  24. Philip Island Ciruit full schedule..... http://www.phillipislandcircuit.com.au/file_admin/CALENDAROFEVENTS2013-FINAL.pdf Superbikes 22 - 24 FEBRUARY Historic Cars 8 - 10 March Cars 6 - 7 April. That's cleared up that one then
  25. I simply assumed you were referring to the bit of my posting you chose to highlight. My mistake.
