Sgp New Format Idea
Backless replied to Robbie B's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
God Almighty, it would be great to have TWENTY FOUR riders to pay for (and 23 to absent themselves from league racing because they're "overworked") The resultant tickets prices would guarantee Cardiff would be packed to the rafters... with a crowd the size of the Itralian GP. 16 - so that'll include Jason Bunyan in the New Zealand GP then? -
Dudley Heathens To Go Premier League?

To be fair, I wouldn't class the opening post as being worthy of "rumour" starter.... Cue the next "Why won't the BSPA listen to the fans" cobblers..... -
Plymouth V Berwick... 14th September
Backless replied to Shadders's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Plymouth have lost 2 PL matches at home this year, drawn 1, won 2 by 6points of less and now won 6 home matches by 7 or more, securing maximum league points. Disappointing? Certainly. Not only a disgrace, but an absolute one? Prehaps not. Still, if Berwick DID have a season spent topping the league, it would only be at the expense of your internal organs digesting themselves. Pay your ten quid... or don't. I bet John Anderson stays awake all evening tomorrow, maybe wondering which tenner might be yours. -
Teesside Silver Helmet
Backless replied to RedcarRacer's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
This morning's Speedway Star reckons Kevin Doolan to be one of the favourites for the Silver Helmet tonight in a field with other bears and "the likes of 2006 winner Richard Hall, James Grieves, Joe Screen, Andrew Tully and Seb Alden" Well, that should help pull the crowds in: "the likes of"..... so that'll be someone the same height as Grieves, the same build as Screen & someone with blonde hair like Alden? I still believe that, with a bit more effort this could have been the highest quality field ever (advertised).... maybe even the highest quality field (invited). Maybe that's the way forward for the consortium: if only they have fould someone the same build as Chris Holder, an old pair of kevlars & a helmet... -
Simon Stead, Ben Barker & Josh Auty knocked them back then..... Looking forward to Pearson's next bellowing about the Danish / Swedish / Polish production line, giving riders the chance to progress.

Difficult to tell a "throw away comment" from any other. Evidently I wasn't alone in not grasping the alternative meaning to "full strength". Do you write Berwick's press releases? -
Not really a point to labour that though, is it? Norbert Magosi's mechanic & Lous Carr's love child (I read the latter on BSF so it must be true).

Teesside Silver Helmet

According to the Speedway Star he's also issued an invitation to Joe Screen, who may well be big mates with Havvy Jnr, but evidently not enough to ride for what Havvy Snr will be prepared to pay, and Sebastian Alden who at the time of printing wasn't due to be in the country since the Sunday before. It could be that the invited field may well prove to be the strongest field yet - well done the consortium. -
So if they hadn't taken into consideration the demise of Newport at such a late stage, nearly half the EL would have lost one of their double uppers and the riders would have been stood around doing nothing. The special dispensation for them didn't change any rule, so there's nothing to keep up with. Masters lost his PL place and without that can't double up. No EL team have seen fit to take him on as a full timer which, perhaps, speaks volumes.
-
I'd imagine he's not doubling up because he simply hasn't a PL place to double up from. The Newport based riders were allowed to double up without a PL place because their deals had been agreed & teams structured before the Welsh House of Cards fell down and it was deemed not to be of their making. Getting dumped by the PL club is, however, a different scenario.

Try reading before you post. The original poster meanders through the usual reality free zone and this thine hopes for the teams to be a full strength. You've pointed out the two broken legs in the same St Helen's house renders that impossible from a Newcastle perspective. Then I pointed out that with injuries to Cook & Tabaka it'll be equally impossible on the away side of the pits. They'll be the facts that havent got in the way of the original meandering. While the injuries to the Monarchs might conceivably slipped under the radar of the original poster, you'd think one if not both Worrall injury might have rung a bell. -

And Edinburgh will still be without Cook & Tabaka, but hey, don't let the facts get in the way. -
Sky have no control over the live broadcast of Grand Prix, they're picking up the centrally supplied feed that any other TV station would also receive & allow their co-commentator to talk over with occasional insight & intelligence while the main commentator bellows & orgasms unnecessarily (maybe not all stations are the same). The last time it was illustrated was Pedersen's child like screaming at Tony Olsson in Italy, when they evidently couldn't hear the tirade of F-words. Whether it's an SGP or their own palty coverage of the of the EL, if they are so concerned about delicate sensibilities, they could do what every tuppenny local radio station does for a phone in & simply broadcast on a few second delay & pay someone to listen to the live feed. Not rocket science, but seemingly beyond those broadcasting to their maiden great aunt. If they were to apply the same criteria to all their coverage of sport, the next time (anyone) scores a goal (especially for the away team) and the crowd appears in the background, will the game be held up while the commentator apologises for each individual "hand signal" in the crowd?

Got to agree with that - the Berwick v Sheffield match was excellent, that could have gone either way &, unfortunately for Berwick, Sheffield won. Surely that's better than 60-30 wins every week? If every meeting was like that, Berwick would win most of them & the gates would be increasing every week - without a discount. -

Isn't it a sad statement on the current state of the sport (and simply the way most things are these days) that so many shorts are in such a tangle? So, it's all added a little bit of edge to the upcoming semi final. That'll be a good thing, then. Wasn't there at time when all meetings were like this? OK, maybe not ALL, but a bit of added spice seemed to be almost the norm, as opposed to the vanilla flavour of most contests these days. AS for the comment earlier about how such races should be awarded, even if its ridiculously ealy in the race, that would be the worst thing that could happen. God forbid if an incident - any incident - winds the crowd up a bit, making victory something to be savoured all the more or defeat something to be avenged at a later date. That might even (gulp!).... attract more spectators to the following meetings! -

I wouldn't argue with that for a moment. Which is an aspect of what, generally, is an excellent, forward thinking, pro-active promotional setup that urgently needs addressing. It's self defeating if their news, report and initiatives like the ongoing admission price trial doesn't get the publicity they deserve because most of the recipients either chuckle at the content or simply employ email filters to avoid such juvenile trivia. How much higher profile would the activities of the club be? Difficult to say, but if such things were taken seriously (and perhaps read?) by the media, it would surely be a little higher. -

Most tracks don't make a song and dance about "hoping to bring score updates from the other matches" like it involves some mystical spell and communication from a different dimension. Although perhaps that IS how they receive the scores - it would be in keeping with the Harry Potter disciple who writes what are laughingly described as press releases. No matter, setting aside the defeat of the select team at Redcar as being somewhat less than representative of Berwick's current situation, add in Morris as a guest based on previous performances against a Newcastle team that must have been disappointed with their own showing on Thursday and, with a bit of luck, the Berwick promotion could get a match worthy of the crowd they're deservedly expecting. The trial of reduced admission is a bold move, and seems to be something Berwick are committed to rather than a one-off attempt to bring in punters to tempt them back @ £15 the next week. Hopefully the early encouraging signs continue. -

The Monarchs remain on course for the Play Offs. That is the mission they would wish to accomplish. Only the most simplistic fool would target three points from every home match, particularly with a team that is running with guests at the senior reserve and number one positions - particularly as the missing number one was consistently making a mockery of his lolling average. Take on one of the better teams in the league and getting any sort of win that will keep Edinburgh moving towards the play offs seems like a reasonable, sensible achievement to aim towards. Three league points would be a very well received bonus, but another week under the belt and a step closer to the goal of making he play offs is a satisfactory outcome. Mission Accomplished. -

Ignored? Yeah, but you'd push back if he was standing behind you. At no point does the Edinburgh Twitter feed mention "on target", what it does say hat after inning they remain on course for the playoffs - an accomplishment that, should they succeed, would be creditworthy based on their position a few weeks ago. Still, don't let facts get in the way of a flounce. -

Good, that leaves the rest of us to enjoy a proper speedway meeting without wondering if the little black cloud above your head will rain on the track Not much chance of that. The coffin dodger and his sidekick still think its an achievement to bring news of a meeting in Workington. -

I take that, as he's at Berwick most weekends & it's been announced that the Argentinian kid has signed a 2013 contract, 1. we can guess Berwick's reserves for next year & 2. they don't intend winning anything (other than the pairs or the fours). it'll be a race against time for Albin to get a real average (i.e. lower than Edberg) before Edberg's first injury of the year & has to be replaced by a NL guest. Nice lad though.
