  1. So the rule is in Speedway ;- You can attack another rider with a lethal weapon but you mustn't retaliate with a harmless Rugby takcle. That about sums it up I think.
  2. Isn't it a pity that this matter has had to be dicussed-it is an unofficial meeting at any case and Woffinden's press agent or whatever would have been well advised not to have sent a long apologetic press release on behalf of the rider. I don't think the average supporter could care less if Tai Woffinden rode in the meting or not. It has fired up a lot of people and that is a pity.
  3. I don't think that Swindon was ever his favourite track- even when he rode for Ipswich !!!
  4. I think it is about time that the Polish public realised that Tomasz Gollob is not the rider that he was 10 or even 5 years ago and it would appear that they have taken sides in the silly spat that is going on. If the European Championships have one meeting half as good as the one we witnessed last evening I will be very surprised! As for Mr Rising's comment about the basketball I think he got that one completely wrong ! Had he been watching the Canonlsation in Rome on the TV this morning he would have seen where all the Bydgoszcz fans were !! They had their banners to prove it, although I must say I didn't see the name Gollob on any of them!
  5. The number of times that Wal Morton and Geoff Pymar are referred to as 'Team Mates' would aggrevate Geoff although he did ride at the same venue on several occasions but not necessarily at the same time, he was never 'bosom pals' with Wal. They were two very different people! He did caddy for Tony Jacklin was very friendly with Jack Nicklaus and many other top golfers and exchanged Letters and Greetings cards with many of the very best golfers in the world including Tiger Woods. He did 4 laps on a 'lay-down' engine at King's Lynn when he was 87 (I believe that was his age at the time) and he likened it to a Rolls Royce compared with the JAPs that he rode. He was a lovely man as well as being a very interesting person and being of Norfolk/Suffolk extraction particularly interesting to a local yokel such as me.
  6. The problem with TV Speedway is that someone like myself will miss going to speedway for any minor reason as I can get my weekly 'fix' on Sky. If there was no TV Speedway I might just go each week -perhaps I'm not the only person who thinks this way. Oh by the way I did cancel my Sky Sports subscription and when asked why I was cancelling I did say that I am only interested in Speedway and should they decide to show the sport next season I would be re-subscribing. Also on the Subject of the Terry Russell dealings with Sky, I just wonder if someone else knows something of an alternative Company who might just be interested in screening the sport next season. Compared with Soccer Speedway is cheap for any Broadcaster particularly taking into account the viewing figures.
  7. I think 'Had Enough' got it right in one! but perhaps the England Manager missed heat one of the Poole v Birmingham match a week or two earlier. Barker was in a rich vein of form in both divisions and with far more experience than Cook many thought he was the obvious choice for the King's Lynn round of the SWC, he did perform rather well there in an SWC a year or so earlier. Had Barker been picked all this may not have happened although there is also a bit of a feeling by some Ipswich supporters that the referee got it wrong in the final race of the Fours at Peterborough, which cost the Witches the Trophy and nasty unecessary injuries to one of their riders.
  8. And he doesn't have to have gates 3 or 4 to do the big one on bend one. He does it on any bend . I think Middlo hasn't been watching who is beating who !!Barker has hit a rich vein of form and for comparison purposes Kennett is a good Premier League rider, Barker is a top Premier League rider .
  9. Come on old chum, get off your high horse I daresay you are not the only academic on this site.
  10. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=713421376 As it happens
  11. Regret no updates as such but Johnny Barber will try to kep updated on;- http://www.facebook.com/home.php?clk_loc=5#!/profile.php?id=713421376
  12. Perhaps some of friends on the forum don't follow Cricket,All of the following are playing or have recently played in the England team, Straus, Pietersen,Trott, Kieswetter,Morgan.Dernbach,Prior- where do you think they were born ? Certainly not in the UK or to be precise not in England or Wales. Even in our own sport Mark Loram wasn't born in the UK. So all the argument about a little 15 year old who is entitled to a British Passport is a complete and utter waste of bandwith. Perhaps a little jealousy has crept in here. Really those who are trying to make arguments about the lad are making themselves look very foolish indeed.
  13. I think you will find that several riders born of British Mothers or fathers and born in the UK have both.
  14. They don't seem to be doing too badly at present though, do they? No doubt you saw the result at Rye House last evening ? You could well have a red face after they have visited your track as well.
  15. Yes, I admire Mr Gollob for his racing skills but he really does think he is rather more important than he is and his actions over the new silencers tend to confirm this. So far as his apparent ungentlmanly conduct is concerned he really ought to take a look at the way in which Greg Hancock behaves- a true gentleman both on and off the track. He really must remember that no one rider is bigger than the sport itself!
  16. Superb first meeting and one that certainly should keep the crowds coming, good slick presentation large, enthousiastic crowd and a few faces that were there for the very first meeting in 1975 -evergreen Randall Butt and the same people who ran the track shop on that day in 1975 were there today doing the very same thing ! Congratulations to the new promotion -keep it up.
  17. What a great shame that Politics have to be brought into the matter as it has no bearing whatsoever on the subject- it is when governments let things go and borrow money hand over fist that problems such as we have now finally come to a head- and that is exactly what has happened- FACT,
  18. I would think that with Chris Lousis taking over the answer to this would be obvious!
  19. Having read this thread carefully and the statement from Mildenhall Speedway, one thing is quite clear to me and that is that Mildenhall can run with Kevin Jolly as a Promoter/Front man but not with Steve Ribbons as the backer/co-Promoter. I Know not why this should be as I am not au fait with Steve Ribbons . I do know Kevin and just how keen and enthusiastic he was to get Mildenhall Speedway going again. He was of course one of the original Fen Tigers of 1975 and no doubt has always had a soft spot for them. Very sorry to hear this news as I believe Kevin Jolly had something to offer speedway, perhaps if West Row dropped the sport for a year or so it could come back with a bang when resurrected. However, that does not help the Fen Tigers Supporters who badly want their team back in 2011.
  20. I do hope that the Mildenhall situation is sorted out soon and fully supported by the BSPA- We cannot afford to lose any speedway tracks that are able to run within Planning rules etc., I am sure that if run properly by the right person (preferably someone with local contacts) with a few local riders in the team Miledenhall can once again be a force to be reckoned with. East Anglians will be able to watch Speedway from all three levels.
  21. Think you got your facts wrong old chum= that happened a few years later.
  22. I think if Jonasson continues to ride like this his career will be cut short. On both occasions his leaning on the rider on the inside causes his opponent to straighten out and hence the cause of both crashes . Why he wasn't excluded the first time I will never know. As for the second instance it was lunacy ! how can you lean on a rider like that before the turn? As for Crump and his cronies having a go at Scott is beyond belief.
  23. Re the Russian incident - you obviously only saw what happened on the track with helmets on ! (beaten up that really is a joke!) I sincerely hope that both riders are OK and fit to take their places in their respective teams on Monday, should be interesting.
  24. Really I have read some rubbish on this forum over the years but this must take the biscuit ! The problem is that you are not used to seeing racing of this quality - there is nothing wrong with KL probably the best 'racing track ' in the UK and the facilities are well up to standard as has been told by several on this forum who actually went to the meeting. My bet is that if any EL team had a crowd a third the size of this one they would be laughing all the way to the bank!
  25. Excellent stuff from all the GB boys, they all had memorable rides and Scott & Bomber were magnificent. I think that Scott put a few of the doubters on this board in their place and proved what a superb rider he is. Form is temporary but class is permanent and always comes to the fore at the end of the day.It was also great to see Tai wanting to be one of the Brits enjoying his racing and proudly joining in singing the National anthem-Very well done Tai.
