The thing is you should never mix business with pleasure, i lost my respect like many for the promotor when he put one finger up to the supporters on bend two one friday evening at the SBA.
-
I agree starshooter, if the truth hurts then they should act in a manor that people respect them, not the way they have, it's that simple for any normal family to do.
-
Good rider the Fish but i hope the Plymouth team will be better balanced next year.
-
Screm i think it's all down to the meeting with the land owners, i don't think it would go ahead unless there was some kind of agreement with Mike Bowden, if that goes well then it's all go, without that like you say there would be little point in the meeting with the landowners, with only two years left on it, and it can't be transfered, then it would not be worth buying him out.

So have i lewy, she has been busy According to the local paper in Plymouth yesterday, the Sunday Independent, Graham Hambly says, the keenly awaited meeting between the owners of the St Boniface Arena and the consortium hoping to take over the promotion of Plymouth speedway is due to take place tomorrow afternoon (monday). Godfrey Spargo, and a member of the four-man consortium, says : We are looking forward to meeting the governors of St Boniface College, who own the land. We have had an amicable exchange of emails and will be optimistic of reaching a resolution of the situation. Fingers crossed.

You would think, and how stupid i was, that telling my daughter that it would be the ideal place to take my grandson a speedway meeting, no swearing, no fighting and a great place to take my young grandson, siily silly me.
-
You haven't got a clue Ballroom, why do you think people don't go to football anymore, the same reason supporters are doing the same at Plymouth, it's very hard to watch the speedway when the police are there, and people are swearing next to where you are standing and fighting, the support is way down from last year, and the reason isn't hard to work out if you know what you are talking about, and have followed the club from the start, something you don't want to know, or have some other reason.
-
It's not all about the off track politics, it's about going to a speedway meetings with members of your family like i do with my grandson and enjoying the meeting without having to be subject to fighting and swearing before the meeting has started, the kind of antics that has been going on you would not see at a football match, i'm sure most of the supporters don't care if the promotor makes some money, i know i don't and good luck to him, but please control your family at the meeting, because if you don't you will soon lose the respect of the people that support you like you have now at Plymouth.

I think if you look at the meaning of the word slander in the Dictionary it says Slander false defamatory statement, i think what has been said about your father is far from it, not everyone can be wrong.
-
But he is not that stupid, if he was to put it back to it's former appearance it would cost him a lot of money, if someone comes in and offers him money for the club, and they can get the college to give them a lease, it would suit Mike Bowden down to the ground, he gets some money that way and don't have to pay anything out, he can't pay the riders, what makes anyone think he will want to pay anyone money to knock the place down, all the talk about him knocking the place down, is what it is, all talk.
-
Your right Robin, they could have walked away, and who would have blamed them, in the local paper today Mike Bowden says that he will bulldoze the track if people keep offending him, well he has been offending the supporters all year, and he says none of them have the guts to come down to the track and face him, i have been down there a few times so don't come out with that one.
-
So now you know what i think, and thank god my family don't act like yours, my kids wouldn't have nothing to do with me if i acted the way your father do.
-
Why don't you say dad, who gives a toss what you or your dad think, the things that have been going on down at the track all year have been a disgrace, and has nothing to do with speedway, are you happy with that, because if you are your no better than him, i just hope that the riders that are owed money by your father have been in contact with there solicitors.
-
Bowden should of had his licence taken off him last year, by not doing that it gave him licence to do what he liked, we can say he was a joke has a promotor, but the people that run the sport must take some of the blame for not acting much sooner.
-
I second that lewy, won't be long with a bit of luck, and they will be gone. This is the latest situation on the Devils takeover http://www.thisisply...tail/story.html Yep it will be if we get your Dad out, and his clan.
-
Lewis your right but it must have been agreed with Mike Bowden when he sign for the team, just goes to show that he hasn't got a clue when dealing with riders, lets hope who ever takes over does a better job, lets be honest they can't do any worse, if Glanz was on £60 a point what is the rest on.

All the best

Plymouth V Berwick... 14th September
Roger MARTIN replied to Shadders's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
This is a report in the local Plymouth paper today about the match on friday. No sooner had the dust settled on their pre-meeting dispute than Ben Barker was leading his team-mate Todd Kurtz to a 5-1 first-heat win. "It's up to the riders," Bowden told the crowd before the end of the meeting, when Devils were so far in front they couldn't be caught. "If they fail next week, then it's the last meeting of the season here. The more points we can get this week, the less we need next week." It was a message not lost on his riders, whose only reverse came in heat five, when they suffered a 5-1 defeat. Otherwise, they mercilessly piled the points on an injury-hit Berwick, who were mathematically well beaten by heat 13, but metaphorically thrashed well before that. Biggest success of the night came when reserve James Holder, who hasn't enjoyed the happiest of seasons with the Devils, was pitted against former Plymouth rider Ricky Wells. Team-mate Ryan Fisher and his other opponent David Bellego were excluded for various offences, leaving Holder to face Wells, Berwick's number one for the night. Nobody would have put money on Holder doing anything other than eating Wells' exhaust fumes, but the Australian confounded his critics with a perfect gate and held the lead to the end of the race, despite a few wobbles. Holder was presented with the man of the match award for that feat, although it was Barker and Fisher who applied the coup de grace with 5-1s in heats 13 and 15. Bowden was inclined to shrug off the pay protest afterwards as one of those things. The Devils chairman said it was late payment by other clubs to Plymouth – each home club pays for the visitors' expenses – which had affected his ability to pay his riders. The Devils chairman, who stoically endured unwarranted cheap shots from certain sections of the crowd about not having the money to pay the referee, said: "Basically, the riders get paid when I do. One club has just sent us their payment after a month. Another cheque turned up on Friday. How I'm supposed to cash that with the weekend in between I'm not sure? "We always pay up, but it's other clubs who put us in a difficult position. It's not good business and it gives us a lot of aggravation." Meanwhile, Bowden was pleased with his team's performance, especially Holder. He said: "It was good racing and the riders did well. They know if they don't, then the season's over. It was certainly James Holder's best performance of the season – the boy did really well." .“If the Herald reporter thinks that they were unwarranted cheap shots from the crowd then the paper needs to send someone else to the meetings, because you have to be blind and deaf to not see what has been going on at the club, Bowden has been taking the money and not paying the riders, if there is a problem about other clubs being late with payments to riders then they should be informed, but it goes much further than a few late payments, and we all know it, it seems the only one that don't is the Herald reporter that is taken in by Bowden, can he not read between the lines, or is he taken in by all the lies.” “Seems to me the reporter is very quick to talk to Bowden, but don't fancy having a word with the riders, maybe afraid he might get to the truth.” -

In the local paper Bowden says that because the team have had two away meeting the money from the meetings that the riders should get from them have been slow in coming, so all the problems that the riders have not being paid is down to just two away meetings, yeh ok Bowden. -
I agree lewy, to get the supporters to come back he must go, there is no ifs or buts, he must go, he said in the local paper that he would want to have a position in the new set-up if someone else takes over, i think he needs to walk away, far far away.

I don't care what the team is next year, i just want Bowden gone, whoever takes over can't do a worse job, if Lee can pick the team he want's then we will see a vast improvement, at the moment he don't have a say in it, the same has Garry Spiller when he was the team manager.
