  1. Couldn't agree more buddy. I saw Steady ride last Thursday at home to Rye House and he didn't look his normal self and suffered a mechanical malfunction in one heat. I put it down to time and tide and all the injuries plus a slow start to this season but boy did Simon look good tonight. The style, the swagger, the gating prowess. Every bit the best rider in the PL that he may be - and certainly has been in the past. I was lucky enough to catch a few words with him (and Olly Allen) in the pits afterwards and congratulated him on taking the Skipper's record - TBH, it couldn't have been lost to a better person. EDIT: Oh, and I have been saying that he will be an International rider within five years, well, he's only gone and done it this season.... representing GB Young Lions U23 "overseas" on Tuesday 13 September.... Birmingham's No. 2 and Witches No. 7, Danyon Hume. Massif congratulations Dan! Proud of you buddy. EXTRA EDIT: Just wanted to say well done to the Tigers supporters who made the journey to Foxhall tonight. Hope you enjoyed the meeting if not the result and that you had a safe journey home and didn't get hit by too many Rocket Balloons where you were standing.
  2. And having spoken with some of the lads that have taken part in the modules, this is exactly the correct order and has made them far better individuals and more able to understand that these days you cannot just jump on a bike and do it, you need sponsors and a strong back up and a good accounts and social media knowledge and if the scheme produces such well rounded and thoroughly decent individuals as Danyon Hume and some of the other emerging exciting British talent, well I for one will back the poultec scheme and Olly Allen to the hilt.
  3. Well, if it rains on Saturday I hope this won't be called off 24 hours in advance again. Rockets now facing five fixtures in seven days with just the one at home. Their 1 to 7, injuries not withstanding, should select itself as the promotion do not believe in wholesale changes like some other clubs. It is always interesting to see the two opposite philosophies being played out across sports.
  4. Danyon Hume guesting for the Potters on Saturday in their re-arranged fixture with Cradley.
  5. Totally agreed with all the positive stuff that has been said before. This deserves to be a Massif success. Absolutely everyone involved is top class. I will post the image of the Island fogo at Foxhall later tonight :-)
  6. Apologies that this is a lengthy Post: I just love the humour and the banter on the Brummies Threads. Since I have been following Danyon, it has been a pleasure being at NL meetings and talking with proper speedway people (then I haven't been to Eastbourne yet, lol, sorry Eagles followers). Actually saw Heat 1 last night, and then wondered why as you needed a speed boat, not a speedway bike for the opening heats. Caught Dan out good and proper, but he got up and... well, not dusted himself down, more squeezed out his racesuit and bounced back with two cracking wins over the mighty Danny Ayres, the first a very brave drive around the outside which, imo, then swung the momentum a bit. (Dan now facing five meetings in six days, having picked up a Guest booking with Stoke on Saturday.) Even though some of the heats ended up reasonably spaced out last night, what an enjoyable meeting that was. The Kent HLs are as good a measure of NL top standard as any and for some of the Brummie lads to top them shows how far they have progressed and what talent they have. I love Danny Ayres and he was good, strong and very fair last night. Luke Bowen fast from the gate and James Shanes was, well, outstanding after he got the measure of the track after his first ride and only a bit of an injury forced him to stand down from Heat 15, protecting himself sensibly for future outings. I spoke with him afterwards and what a fantastic young lad he is. Gee, there is a good crop of very pleasant and talented British (English?) speedway riders around at the moment. Well done them and well done the NL. And finally, thank you to kitten2502 and uk martin, how I wished I asked about J7 / J8 before. So, so much easier as the Aston Expressway is anything but at the moment, and whomever makes cones must be a billionaire. But, of course, I followed my satnav out of Perry Barr last night and..... the Junction I was directed to was closed, so I spent a few minutes of my life following the Diversion signs to the motorway. Back by 1:15 am though, so all good and another hugely enjoyable visit to PB. Thanks for making me so welcome. All set up nicely for a cracker on Monday. Lets hope the weather plays fair. I can sense a whiff of controversy coming up...
  7. 100% Agreed. The voice of reason... Well, if it is, it should be used as such. Hope it is in the future as don't like the track advantage that both Sheffield (PLRC) and EoES (Fours) gives to certain riders and teams (and I don't mean simply the homesters). I always liked the BL2 Final at Wimbledon and the Pairs at Waterden Road. Remember two outstanding occasions: Sam Fox. Love It. Come On Graham! PMSFL. Brilliant. Though they may sack some of their teams riders during the meeting... TBH, whilst it would be fitting for Danny King to win it this year, I would love Eddie to win it for all the service he has put into speedway and to Rye House in particular. Never gets the plaudits he deserves imo. Maybe hold the PLRC at the new improved Hoddesdon next season.....
  8. You joining the Massif tonight Gavan? Would be good to have your support in person. Good news is that Sue is planning to be there tonight and hopefully joining the Massif gathering. Has anyone got a helium tank to fill baboons with? Err, balloons not baboons, that would just be cruel, though the look on their faces would be amusing... I understand that "cake" may be the theme of the night, possibly....?
  9. Anyone know how Sue is and whether she will be attending tonight? "No Theme Thursday" then.... ok, well it is a collective. Welcome back to Ipswich. You can take a horse to water... There may be balloons, if that is ok... Barry and Co at Smallbrook, your "fogo" will be pictured and posted as requested at Foxhall tonight ( https://www.facebook.com/Island-Speedways-Wight-Warriors-397385410444345/ ). Matt at Rocket Music Store ( www.guitarssuffolk.co.uk ) your Mapex Remo Ebony Pinstripe will be debuted and should be in evidence suitably. And of course, Nic and Co at Music World ( www.music-world-ipswich,co.uk ) the adastra L80R should be massif again tonight.
  10. Oh geez, it was a joke. I will now go and pace out the distance on my laptop and recalculate. oh dear me. Sense of humour was never Mad Max's strong point I guess, lol.
  11. Brilliant thank you. From Ipswich so off the M6 and in via the Aston Freeway or whatever its called. Free to put cones wherever you like the last fortnight. Took me 45 minutes just to get on the M6 proper last Thursday an my way to Sheffield v Rye House..... Never had much luck with the traffic flow around Birmingham
  12. Hoping to do both meetings and really looking forward to watching the classy NL riders on show from both clubs. Safe journeys and meeting to all. I really will try and make Heat 1 tonight but how the heck do you get into that damn car park? I guess you have to turn off a turning before and then come up the one way system in the left hand lane, but biggered if I can get that right yet, lol. Guess there are no weather gremlins on the horizon? Come On Danyon!
  13. Forecast looks very good for tomorrow now. I am off to Birmingham soon to watch Danyon in the Brummies first leg of the NLKOC v Kent and Danny Ayers (and James Shanes) so if anyone can come up with a "MAssif" theme, please feel free to post on here or on the Facebook page, otherwise it is Anthony's Minions suggestion.....
  14. Nine out of the Top Ten last comments. Can I make it ten out of ten..... BUMPY road ahead
  15. No bickering here. Just an outside the box suggestion and a rebuttal. It is what a Forum is all about I think.
  16. Guest replacements in the Air Fence, all from Ipswich Witches :-) Hope you all have a cracking meeting. You deserve it after this week's events.
  17. Couldn't Scunthorpe Speedway club have been more empathetic and run this at, say, 4pm so that I could then go on to Redcar and watch the Witches in their attempt to gain the four points necessary to give them an outside squeak of the sixth play off place. Not a good show Rob and Co, lol, total disregard for the floating voter. (Now, the fireworks, the thought of Shads Mark I and II in ear muffs and the shorter distance, is making me reassess my previously well thought out Baldrick like cunning plan....)
  18. And? The buses can be re-routed and if hotels have been booked without a cancellation waiver, then some folk need their heed examining man - though why you would need to book a hotel and not travel to and from Sheffield on the day beats me. You couldn't get more central than Sheffield - one reason it is held there I suppose, with its big car park - though they do tend to run out of programmes for PL meetings. I suppose the people who may have booked hotels in Sheffield (Metropolitan is my recommendation, with the amazing Stuart and the other brilliant night staff) are the ones who then frequent Spearmint Rhinos for a bit of dancing in your lap.
  19. Fair comment Crump99. I can see both sides of the proposition. What football clubs do these days has so little relevance to the real world that I must say that I take little notice these days. The good old days when Ipswich Town under the great Bobby Robson almost won the treble in 1981 with about only 12 players are well and truly consigned to the big bin of history
  20. As Baldyman has suggested on another Thread, the PLRC should have been moved to Plymouth (and all proceeds given to the fence replacement fund.) Yes, I know, short notice, logistics and all that but we are all one big speedway family and we should protect the weakest and most damaged. Maybe tracks can hold an Air-Fund collection after the Ben-Fund recently?
  21. But that is how it should be in Speedway too. This season, Rohan and Cam should not have been allowed to ride against Ipswich as they are on loan from that club.....
  22. Well done Somerset and in particular to Rohan and BWD, both seen as gambles by some at the beginning of the season, looking anything but now. Just shows what taking a gamble sometimes results in and also what changing your logo can do for a club - though I noticed at Rye House that the big Rebels flag is still being flown
