  1. Not sure if was on purpose or not, but if it was then justice was done because as others have pointed out it is "legal cheating". The rule in it's current definition is daft and last night showed it. With 3 teams so close on points, a rule that would allow the third placed team the opportunity to draw level with the first placed team is ludicrous. I understand the logic of having a double points "joker" to keep a meeting close but in this instance changes should be made ; either the points gap must be greater than 6 before the joker can be played, or the joker shouldn't be allowed after say heat 22. At one stage I thought Boycey might be doing the honourable thing, i.e. winning the meeting without using the stupid double points rule and beating the opposition fair and square, but I guess I was dreaming. Oh, and didn't Nigel Pearson go on and on about it !!!
  2. No chance of Cardiff outdoing that, no matter how hard the Sky presenters try ! Have to agree that the racing was top class, overtaking throughout the meeting and a handful of photo finishes, everyone seemed to be giving it their all. Surely this venue is now the jewel in the crown. By comparison, I have to agree that Cardiff is overpriced, and the racing no where near as good. I will watch it on TV, my last two visits have been overshadowed by people suffering from the British disease, "can't be having a good time unless I'm drunk"......
  3. The 'con' is actually putting the tickets on sale now ! The organisers are getting almost a full years interest on the money paid for them, for no outlay at all. The purchaser of course loses the interest on that outlay. Of course advance sales and discounts are part of all events and promotions but this does seem a bit excessive - surely the tickets needn't be on sale until the New Year ? It's just a huge cashflow advantage to the Organisers.
  4. Nice and constuctive ! Perhaps you could enlighten us with who you would include ?
  5. Yep, Kevin Coombes, he's good isn't he ?
  6. Gotta be GB and Denmark, the 2 teams with the the most strength throughout all 5 riders. It will be close though, depends which Gollob turns up, the "wind it on, round the outside, I'm coming through" or "this tracks to small, I can't be bothered" Gollob could make a difference. Hancock and Hamill will go well for USA but they'll be scraping for 3rd place at best.
  7. OK so thankfully it came alive in the last half of the meeting, the first half was very boring and probably showed speedway at it's worst, especially to any newcomer- processional and not very professional - was it 57 minutes for the first 3 heats ? Massive contrast in racing and coverage when compared to Sunday. Luckily the last 10 heats provided some overtaking and great racing form Pedersens, Lindback and Gjedde. The ref called the wrong result in the Lindback / Gjedde issue, again showing that there's room for some technical help to make the sport more professional. I think Sweden deserved to go through, they put the points on early and hung in there despite a great rally from the Danes;USA were always going to be 3rd and the Czechs 4th. As far as commentary goes, I much prefer Pearson with support from Kelvin, Chris L or perhaps David Norris, sorry Johnno "mate", no offence and that's probably a "disappointment" to Millard..... Concerned that there was no air fence though, thought the start line girls looked fabulous, but what about the outfit the start marshal was wearing for the first few heats, long tailed frock coat and a bandanna - looked like a cross between an orchestral conductor and an extra from Pirates of the Caribbean......
