  1. Yes THJ, if the roles WERE reversed as you say, then Workinton would be the club with the larger sum of money to offer riders and would be doing EXACTLY the same.........let's not kid ourselves on that one. Lets face it, speedway has always been a ruthless and fickle game.....
  2. Not a bad looking team.....I would maybe want to replace James Sargeant with Jordan Stewart though. .....but who could be the alleged "poached" rider from Workington?......Rasmus Jensen???.....
  3. Even if Glasgow do choose to pay riders more than other teams, (not that you provide any proof, right enough)......what difference does it make to what other teams pay THEIR riders? Ok, riders can ask for more based on what they hear Glasgow are paying, but that doesn't mean the other promoters have to pay. What are the riders going to do?....stop riding? What Glasgow decide to pay only affects THEIR seven riders and maybe does some team or teams out of a desired signing (or seven) It's business in the private sector. Wages can and do vary by large margins between different employers for people expected to do the same job.
  4. Yeah, got to agree with you there LesR.....sign written van and all the latest gear make many of them think they are superstars from the off.
  5. Great news.....hope they get sorted long term too.
  6. My go.......just for fun. With Cookie......as it's been hinted he's a cert to sign.... Cook 10.45....Summers 7.18....Starke 5.88....Sargeant 4.16....Stewart 4.09....Mountain 3.57....Kemp 2.00 = 37.33 (options to have Bacon or Garcia in place of Sargeant) Cookieless..... Summers 7.18....Vissing 6.94....Kerr 7.18....Starke 5.88....Stewart 4.09....Mountain 3.57....Kemp 2.00 = 36.84 (options to have Allen, Palm Toft or Ellis in place of Kerr) I think the bottom three should all make good progress next year. I also realise that every promoter and their granny's will be wanting to sign Kemp. I have some other names that I fancy but feel there may be a lesser chance of them signing and/or moving clubs i.e. Jensen, Pickering, Heeps, Etheridge and Wilson-Dean.
  7. As much as I am a massive fan of Craig Cook, with our league being diluted due to the points limit reduction, do we really want to see him winning easily, streaks ahead of of the opposition week in , week out?
  8. Yeah, and then come out with they want to introduce a National Supporters Club Group so that they can take on board fans' ideas and opinions........laughable right enough......
  9. I'd prefer Sunday's too but they've said on Facebook that they intend sticking to Friday nights.
  10. The ridiculously REDUCED and STOP/START fixture list this year put paid to the excellent work Glasgow Speedway did to promote the sport over last year and during the winter. This, along with the inability to adhere to a regular race night destroyed any possibility of hanging on to any new or returning fans who were enticed through all the good work.
  11. Did Glasgow not do just exactly what EVERY other club would have done if they'd had the same budget to play with?
  12. Although...…………perhaps a bit easier to fix and harder to prove culpability than some of the other regular "on site" betting sports.
  13. Yup........and at least we can be assured (because speedway is such an honest, up front game) that there would be absolutely no chance of race fixing........LOL
  14. Really well done Workington.......what a show......and well deserved.
  15. Totally agree.....why does it matter about movement at the start?....why does it matter about getting a flier?.....so long as you don't touch the tapes. The starts would be less predictable and therefore the racing more exiting. These silly starting rules are destroying good speedway.
  16. This moving at the start rule is ruining Speedway. As has been said already it should be..."touch the tapes and you're out". After the green light goes on it shouldn't matter whether you move or not. As far as riders being pulled in by others moving is concerned, the magnets could be concealed, making the riders have to look at the tapes for starting as was the procedure years ago.
  17. Spot on post MD.........a thoroughly enjoyable meeting which ran like clockwork. I was particularly impressed by Lidsey and I think Greaves will do a fair job for us. Kennedy definitely came first in the pole vault with a beautiful finish........lol.........aaaand Relax!
  18. Glad to see you're embracing the positives Solidmango........sorry, couldn't resist.......lol Looking forward to this one.........could go either way the way things are poised.
  19. I've been embracing the positives since 1964 Solidmango......but I just feel that this year's decisions re fixtures by the BSPA have not done the sport any good whatsoever. That, on top of our inability to sustain regular racing days, has had an impact on attendance and interest.
  20. Almost 11.30 on the day of a Glasgow v Lakeside clash and no thread on this forum for the meeting. Sadly speaks volumes. In previous years there would have been several pages by now. In my opinion, this year in particular has put a few more nails in the coffin of speedway, mainly due to reduced and inconsistent fixtures. Bad enough for us long term fans but how must it be for newbies? Missing riders is another main factor causing lack of interest. Riders doubling up and being committed to riding abroad and in other competitions is doing speedway no good whatsoever. I do understand the shortage of riders but that is due to the sport becoming "professional" and far too expensive for Joe Bloggs to take part in. I have always kind of poo pooed the people constantly saying our sport is in decline but I can see and feel a big slide this year. It must be totally disheartening for promotions such as Glasgow who have put so much into improving facilities and attracting new supporters.
  21. Have strategically placed sprinkler systems ever been tried?
  22. Well !!!..........what's happened? No input from any of the usual commentators...........and even worse than that, no Edinburgh thread for tonight's meeting. A bit worrying to say the least. Have people lost interest?
  23. It's always been the same in the 50 odd years I've been following speedway. I think MattK hit the nail on the head regarding the reason. Gladly, I'm not the norm, as I'm a motorcyclist and enjoy most forms of motorcycle sport........Speedway and MotoGP being my favourites.
