Who's Going To Cardiff
leanne1706 replied to lady s's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I think our tickets were delivered yesterday, but as we're still recovering from jetlag we didn't get up to answer the door so they're waiting for us at the collection office! Starting to get quite excited now... -
Who's Going To Cardiff
leanne1706 replied to lady s's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
We'll be there again But this year we're bringing along a couple of extras. We're staying at the Ibis Cardiff Gate hotel, I think. Nothing glam, but it's a bed for the night! Really looking forward to this, especially since I haven't seen any live speedway for aaaages now! I'll be in the PoW before the meeting with my Danish flag (which has Hans and Nicki written on it in glitter) so feel free to come and say hi and apologies to anyone that ends up covered in glitter like last year it rubs off on anything and everything. -
I was thinking the same thing as I wrote that last post...

In more recent times, Nigel Sadler and I can't remember who back in about 98 at Peterborough (sorry, I'm not very good with precise details!). Saddles got smacked (maybe headbutted?) by the other rider (a Newport rider?) and knocked down, and - as I remember it - Newport fans (apologies if it wasn't Newport) stormed the pits and started on our Sadler. Great quote from Saddles afterwards when questioned about it "all I wanted to do was get up and smack him between the goggles"! Typical Aussie Again, sorry if I've got the details completely wrong, the main thing I remember from the incident was the great quote!

2008 Wildcards Announced
leanne1706 replied to Grachan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Thanks for posting that, Grachan. I hadn't seen it elsewhere yet, and it's always nice to have official confirmation -
Hey, it's just the way my mind works... and it hasn't done me badly so far! (and that quote isn't far off, surely?)
-
Yeh, obviously... already booked in for that one. That's why I pointed out that I want to go to one in Europe (as in, proper "on the continent" Europe).....
-
Thank you... didn't even think of that one!
-
You beat me to it! T'other half and I are going to take in a European GP this year. We're hoping to coincide is with a long weekend away, so a bit of sight-seeing (read: drinking) will be in order. I fancy a Swedish/Danish stadium, while Mr leanne1706 is leaning towards Italy for the sight-seeing. Obviously, good racing is a must, and I think I'd prefer one where there's a good British following... Any recommendations, please??

Thanks for the translation. And I agree, very sad news indeed. -
Who's Going To Cardiff
leanne1706 replied to lady s's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
We're about ten minutes away from the stadium but we were about 20 mins last time and we drove in (hubby designated driver!) and used the park and ride. Bit of a pain waiting for the bus in the rain, but would recommend the P+R. Will hopefully be in the PoW a little earlier next year (if we don't get lost again!) and meet a few more people -

It's not in the centre as such, but try www.ibishotel.com ** got the web addy wrong! -
Have just watched the GP on Sky+ after avoiding the result from last night, and I couldn't be happier for Nicki. Congrats to my favourite Dane And I'm even more pleased to say I was right in my signature that's said Nicki would be world champ since March!

British Speedway Gp 2008
leanne1706 replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Does that mean they know the date of the GP and it's the 28th?? Or am I just reading that all wrong!? -
Depends which JD turns up!
-
Was just thinking the very same thing... I'll be crossing my fingers for NKI, Jonas and Bjerre, but I think it'll be Bjarne, KK and Lindgren, though I wouldn't rule out Bjerre, Dryml and Rooboy...
-
I don't know Bjerre too well, but I will say that as far as I know there have been no problems with him at Peterborough. He talks with other members of the team, I've seen some excellent team riding from him... and he even smiles while in the pits
-
Boring, boring, boring! I've just fast forwarded through most of that on the Sky+, otherwise I might have fallen asleep! Absolutely chuffed to pieces to see Nicki win with full points again - big congrats to my favourite hothead Dane
-
Congratulations to Poland, well ridden and some excellent races... though I have to agree that Balinski's inclusion was somewhat questionnable. If I were a Dane I think I would be a rather unhappy bunny right now, too! Team GB were quite dismal and never really turned up: Rico seemed to lose the will to live right from the start, as did I the more I watched him. Steady looked well out of his depth but the experience was invaluable. Eddie, ditto. Bomber I was really surprised at - after having watched his performance in Cardiff and last Monday I couldn't believe how he did tonight. He was almost going backwards, though he did pick up a little towards the end. Scotty may not have scored big, but IMO it was a real captain's performance. And I'm sure he was really chuffed to get one over on his best friend Hans Olly Allen was very quick out of the gates - just a shame he couldn't keep anyone behind him!! I am pleased he got a go out on the track though, and like Steady and Eddie I'm sure it will prove to be a good experience.

Georgie Thompson Hosts Race Off & Final
leanne1706 replied to Rob B's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Very professional job, but I have to agree with Shovvy (!)... it was obvious she was reading the questions off a cue, and that voice - well, I've recorded it and I'm going to watch it if I have any trouble sleeping in the near future She did do well for her first taste of speedway but I just found her boring, as did everyone else here who was watching. I much prefer the Welsh one (Sarah??)... especially as she has the guts to give Hans a slap when he's being his usual cheeky self -
Race Off Leszno Poland Thursday 19 Juli
leanne1706 replied to tarabanko's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Would love to see Sweden go through with Poland, but I think it will be Oz. Though having said that the Aussies have got to up their game a bit if all the Swedes follow JD's lead from last night! -
Professional sportsmen who fly here there and everywhere as part of their sport... hmm, ok then! It was just a drink, not like he was snorting coke or injecting some performance enhancing something-or-other.
-
What's wrong with Red Bull?? I always have a tin of that to keep me going if I'm flagging a bit - and to be fair he's only a little'un and it was probably past his bedtime
-
I will more than happily admit that I was wrong about Eddie. I'm really pleased that he pulled it out of the bag when it counted - more of the same on Saturday, please!

World Cup At Coventry
leanne1706 replied to Gemini's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'm from Peterborough, but much as I would love to go to Coventry there's no way I could make it in time after work. I wish they had run it on a weekend too, but I'll have to watch on Sky.
