  1. I preferred the track durings Lens era, it does seem narrower now, and a lot slicker. On the plus side, the safety fence and air bags are a big improvement on the previous set up.
  2. There is a fair few of us that travelled from south of the river as well. Some of our group were from surrey and sussex, and we were regulars at Arena.
  3. He could end up back at Eastbourne. The likes of Brennan and Wood need to progress, staying in the NL is just treading water.
  4. A sad but expected end for the Hammers. A miracle is needed to find a new site in essex.
  5. Look, if you think the crowds were at those levels, then you have a different opinion to me. There were strong rumours that the club was losing money weeks before the BSPA pulled the plug. I was a big critic of Len Silver during his reign, but Rye was a far better place then.
  6. What Rye House fans. Where were they earlier in the season. Why didn't they support their club to stop it going bust. I'm a neutral that attended both venues on a regular basis, and i say it how i see it. Clubs moving into another tracks home rarely succeeds. I hope it works if Lakeside do stay at Rye, but both parties have to up their game big time.
  7. Anyone can stick a few pegs in the ground. It would be nice to have some photographic evidence of the work actually starting. It's the least the Swindon fans deserve.
  8. The eight meetings i attended at Rye earlier this season, were merely the starter leading up to the lakeside main course. That's how I've judged the Hoddesdon experience this year.
  9. The outstanding Eastbourne v Mildenhall league match could have been run this week. No one from the old boys club seems to be insisting that it gets staged. So i can't see any restaging of the comets match.
  10. I would imagine it would take a lot of money to bring Rye House stadium up to scratch. The car park and spectator facilities need a major revamp, plus the track needs reshaping and relaying. The track lighting is also in need of upgrading. Who is going to foot the bill for all of this. I can't see BMR doing this for a meagre rent from any prospective tennants. Lakeside speedway have a huge decision to make regarding Rye. It might be the only option on the table, i don't envy them.
  11. You can criticise people for being negative, but I attended every competitive Hammers match at Arena and Rye this season. I paid my money, I'm entitled to an opinion. The move to Rye might have been the only option available to the club, but its turned out to be a disaster. Arena Essex might have been considered a dump by a lot of people, but how i miss it now. I shudder to think what the financial implications are for the club since the move.
  12. Decent facilities, clean toilets and a well prepared track for the riders to race on. None of these were on offer during lakeside's stint at Rye. I will still go, because I'm too old to change, but the sport has no chance of attracting a new fan base, to replace the present generation.
  13. It's easy to talk about being postive when you're not handing over the money. Admission alone has cost me £111, that's without programmes or travel. In todays day and age it's all about customer service, and that is where speedway has a lot to learn.
  14. The move to Rye has sapped the life out of me, and I'm not a Lakeside fan. Rain offs, delays, abandoned meetings and a power cut, have put the finishing touches to the worst season in my living memory.
  15. Thankfully we got a result tonight. I don't think i could handle another visit to the house of fun next week.
  16. I feel your pain. It's bad enough for me travelling from surrey.
  17. Should have run this last night, with today as a stand by date. The weather looks to be turning unsettled next week. Sums the season up really.
  18. If it's off tonight, i suppose it will have to be run on tuesday night. They can't risk waiting until Wednesday, the last day of the season.
  19. Clubs should be fined and deducted points the following season for failing to fufill their fixtures. Speedway has a reputation for allowing promoters to do what they want, regardless of the consequences. Until someone gets a grip, the sport will continue its slide into oblivion.
  20. Gonna be hit and miss weather wise tonight. Let's hope after three rain offs at Rye, the Hammers get lucky staging this one.
  21. After going to Rye House on Wednesday and Mildenhall last night, I'm grateful for a night in. I would have gone tonight, but it's freezing cold, so I'm not bothered. Mildenhall should be heavily fined, but i doubt if they will. It will all be forgotten over the winter.
