  1. I remember getting seriously filled in at my first visits to Romford and Exeter. A painful experience that has never been forgotten.
  2. All clubs finances should be monitored by an impartial accountant to ensure other tracks don't end up like Rye House. Something like football's FFP should be put in place to make sure clubs don't live beyond their means.
  3. Eddie Waring and Stuart Hall would have been perfect for this nonsense. Perhaps pearson and Tatum could fill in as guest replacements.
  4. You beat me to it. I only collect the programmes of the meetings i go to, before they end up in a box never to be seen again!
  5. The Eastbourne programme is excellent, but at a pound dearer it should be. For me personally, I'd be happy enough with a simple race card.
  6. I'll ask the question again Sid. Who is going to pay for all this track work, Swindon speedway or Stadia UK.
  7. I was there as well. A really big crowd turned up that day, possibly the biggest of the 1976 - 83 revival.
  8. It's easy to go off topic, when talking about such great riders!
  9. Have Faith you Swindon fans, the three wise men will deliver your super new track and stadium. Has anyone seen that wheelbarrow?
  10. Maybe not, but it soon felt like one the following season to those of us that paid to see the big 'farewell'
  11. It's all about era's though isn't it. I never went to West Ham until 1970, for me Christer Lofqvist was Mr. Excitement!
  12. As a kid, i saw Rosenkilde beat Olsen at West Ham in 1971. A memorable moment for me. I never saw Harrfeldt at his best, although he was still decent riding for Wembley. I've got Rosenkilde's original no.2 Hammers race jacket in my collection. One of my more treasured items.
  13. Never going to happen. Another club consigned to the history books.
  14. I doubt it, farces occur in speedway on a weekly basis. That one has been swept well under the carpet.
  15. I know about 10 people that are regulars at both venues. The lack of competitive meetings in both clubs fixture lists next season might ensure there won't be too many clashes if they race on The same night. I might do the odd challenge match at Kent, but fours, pairs and individuals are out of the question for me.
  16. Hard as it is for the fans, for some of them it must feel like the end of the word. I know it did for me when Wimbledon closed. Riders will never have the same attachment to clubs like the supporters do, they just move on to the next job. The days of one club men like Ronnie Moore are well an truly over. How would you feel if Sheffield shut?.
  17. Do common sense and speedway ever go together.
  18. As a kent and Eastbourne regular, i will choose the best meeting on the night if they clash. With the loss of Lakeside and Rye, my meetings will be greatly reduced next season.
  19. There is a lot said about speedways aging fan base, but very little about the ancient promoters running the sport. What's needed is some younger people with fresh ideas to shake the whole thing up.
  20. Traditionally tracks in this country staged a full season of meetings. My team Wimbledon ran 38 in 1980!. It works for Len Silver at Kent, less isn't always more.
  21. Hopefully these cost cutting measures will be passed on to the fans. It's obvious that the british public thinks the sport is poor value for money.
  22. Apart from the rent, the GRA also got a percentage of the gate money from the car meetings. It was a very good deal from the stadiums point of view, with very little work needed to prepare the stadium for cars compared to the mess that speedway can make. It was easy money for the landlords.
  23. Both of my kids loved speedway until their early teens, then stopped going. Youngsters want to be associated with things that are popular, things that they can talk about with their mates. I've been a speedway fan for just over 50 years, but i know the end is near for me. The loss of Lakeside and Rye are more nails in an already full coffin. I admire people that continue to to wave the flag for a dying sport, but i fear they are flogging a dead horse.
