  1. A very fair and accurate response to my post. It would have been easy to reply wearing rose tinted glasses. The racing was far better in the Len Silver era, it was never the same when Crayford moved in there. The season as the London Lions were a disaster. £10 admission for poor viewing and a poor track. A sad end to a once great venue.
  2. I agree, why give fans more reasons not to go. Remember those ridiculous extra heats in the KOC a few years ago. I avoided those meetings like the plague. All of these gimmicks won't put many extra bums on the seats, if any.
  3. Quite possible, but as a fan i just wanted to see an improvement. We've already matched last seasons points tally with seven games to go. The way Emery has helped unite the fan base has to be a positive thing.
  4. I was at the gooners last night as well. With football you know it's definitely going to be on. No such luxury with speedway. Napoli at home and Watford away rule me out of the next two showground meetings. Hopefully i can make it on Easter Monday.
  5. And one of the most dangerous. My memories of the Wick are tinged with sadness. Some great racing yes, but also some horrific crashes that will stay with me forever.
  6. With an uncertain future, why commit to another year of heavy financial losses.
  7. The original old 13 heat format. No that brings back some happy memories!
  8. Too right, i remember having to catch the last bus home outside White City station after another Wood Lane double header went on till near midnight. My mum had a fit waiting up for me!
  9. The starts were terrible in the good old days. The galloping Mauger was a master of rolling into the tapes to anticipate the start.
  10. City were also at home yesterday, which is bound to have an impact.
  11. Absolutely. At last weeks meeting it was awful. Leicester are not the only track in need of an lighting upgrade. At Rye House last season, the riders needed miners helmets to negotiate the bends!
  12. It looks like another long established speedway track is going to be consigned to the history books. It's a shame Northside can't be upgraded to allow the club to continue at NL level.
  13. Len runs Kent like it's still the 1980's, speedway every week. You have to applaud him for that. The crowd numbers prove it's what people want.
  14. I was a Wimbledon fan, but have always supported my local venues, Hackney included!
  15. Very interesting. I'm suprised anyone has been allowed access to the site.
  16. I would never commit to a season ticket at any track. I'd be quids out not attending the Micky mouse meetings and being faced with long journeys in dodgy weather. I'd rather pay a bit extra on the night and choose when i want to go.
  17. It's friday, the sun is shining but there is no meeting at Lakeside tonight. It's on days like this the reality hits home. Another of my local venues have gone, unlikely to return. Enjoy your track if you still have one, because you never know what's around the corner.
  18. Sounds like a master plan for 2020. Bluster will probably own the whole league by then, so it won't need to be voted on.
  19. I've attended a few big grasstrack meetings recently, and encountered many of the problems that hinder speedway. Late starts, extended tractor breaks and paramedics being delayed en route. Maybe it's just a motorsport thing.
  20. Like you say, speedway is far too expensive a sport from top to bottom. Too costly for the riders and the fans alike, but all the time Poland call the shots, i can't see the riders using standardised equipment over here. It would have to be enforced world wide for it to work.
  21. Too right, that's one thing I'm looking forward to at Eastie. Some closer competitive meetings!
  22. Speedway is a sport run by old fogies for the benefit of old fogies. It's a well known fact that a lot of the older generation have more disposable income than a lot of the youngsters, so they are more likely to pay whatever the promoters want. Both of my kids are ex fans, but wouldn't attend now even if it was free entry. Kids of today want to be associated with popular things, not something that no ones heard of.
  23. Like my pal 'ruckeroo' posted earlier. Len's preparing himself for some hefty pay outs, at home and away this coming season.
  24. If i was leicester, id invest in a fleet of mobility buggies. Pretty soon they will need them. I've been a speedway fan for over 50 years, so I'll be joining you soon, up against that wall. Take aim and fire!
