  1. He had a horrific crash on the island a couple of years ago. That might have been playing on his mind.
  2. As an Arlington regular, i know exactly what you mean!
  3. To go the whole season undefeated in the league is a brilliant feat, even if they did lose the play off final.
  4. After the brilliant Fen Tigers team of last season. This years side has a very different feel about it.
  5. It was a normal race night and the meeting attracted a decent crowd. The programme was an awful glossy brochure covering a multitude of sports with a plain racecard inserted inside.
  6. He really struggled with the track last night, and from memory fell four times. The R/R picks were bizarre to say the least!
  7. With so few meetings to run, it shouldn't be hard to rearrange.
  8. I agree, i was there for the Somerset meeting last week. The racing was great, but the crowd was poor considering the good weather and the school holidays. I don't blame the Mason's for pulling the plug tonight. When it rains, the fans don't come
  9. I used to travel all over the place when i was younger, but i don't have the motivation now. The NSS is a great track that i have visited 3 times, but speedway is all about geographics for me these days.
  10. It's ok if you live local, but i wouldn't travel miles to watch it.
  11. As long as you're happy everything must be alright then. The fact that there wasn't a track grade until after heat 8 is ok by you, when clearly the riders were struggling with conditions. You should try taking those rose tinted glasses off, you might see better.
  12. Very similar to Terry Betts in years gone by. Although there was a lot less traffic back then.
  13. Yesterday at Kent they started the meeting with queues outside the stadium. With the 2 hour curfew now applying to bank holidays, it was announced they had no choice.
  14. With the dreaded 2 hour curfew and the usual racing incidents at NL level, there is not enough time to do proper track grades and water breaks. It's very frustrating that the product could be so much better, but if the council wont budge, i can't see it improving.
  15. That's Len for you. Why wasn't the track graded and watered during the earlier delays. Someone needs to get a grip at Kent to ensure delays are kept to a minimum. If that means a second ambulance, then so be it. The crowd levels and high admission price should be enough to cover it.
  16. Totally agree. The star is meant to be the reference record of the sport. I wouldn't entertain it, even if it was free.
  17. Curfew on a bank holiday is a new one on me. Plenty of meetings in the past have gone past the 2 hour mark. It would have been a disaster to pull the plug early today, with such a good crowd in.
  18. Very interesting. I remember having a look at the present stadium, which was in a derelict state, before attending a meeting at the Ladbrokes Perry Barr track across the road back in the early 1980's.
  19. The last era of New Cross progs are worth about £2 tops. They must have printed loads at the time.
  20. When i worked at Wimbledon in the 1980's, if the weather forecast was favourable we used to flood the track for three days leading up to the meeting. This ensured the water got right into the base and made it a lot easier to manage on a race day.
  21. Like you say, dusty afternoon meetings are nothing new. Some of my earliest speedway memories as a kid, were watching dust bowls at West Ham and Rayleigh.
  22. It was dusty today and the breeze didn't help. Hopefully the next meeting will be switched to an evening start to help with the track preparation.
  23. The track is the most important part of the business, but the majority of the promoters just don't get it.
