  1. Only a minimal chance of rain for the rest of the day, according to the met office.
  2. Broady was still riding for Newport in 1977!
  3. If any track gets a crowd of 1000 or over in this day and age, must be considered a good turn out.
  4. It's not being fickle, it's being sensible. The cost of fuel and the journey time is bad enough, without gambling with a dodgy weather forecast. It's down to the individual to weigh up the risks.
  5. It might handicap them, but it won't bankrupt them. Expensive foreign imports nearly put the club out of business in its EL days. If it wasn't for Bob Dugard the club wouldn't be alive today.
  6. I was at Poole last night. Parade 7.30, first race 7.40, no interval. All done and dusted just after 9. It shows what can be done.
  7. To be fair to Ben and Danno Verge. They both used to be poor on the island before moving there. At least they've tried to up their game by moving to a bigger track.
  8. Lynn used to be one of the best race tracks in the country, so it's nothing new.
  9. If he owned the showground I'd say it was nailed on, but he don't and the cars were kicked out of there years ago.
  10. Rayleigh, now you are showing your age. My first trip to the Weir was a bank holiday monday meeting against the West Ham Bombers. The track was so dusty you could hardly see the riders. We still had the same track problems in the 'good old days', but the bikes were a lot slower then, which contributes a lot to the present problems. Some of the more experienced riders can struggle to control the modern era flying machines.
  11. Someone from the council planners should attend a meeting at kent, and see what the promotion are up against. Trying to rush a meeting through with inexperienced riders is madness. It would be difficult enough with a higher standard of racing. Surely an extra 30 minutes wouldn't have much of an impact upon any local residents.
  12. It depends if the club is running at a loss, like the majority are in this country.
  13. It's hard to see how the track can remain viable. With no home meetings for at least 6 weeks, wages will still have to be paid for the next 7 away matches.
  14. A big well done to the kent track staff last night. The speed in which they repaired the extensive fence damage in heat 7 was remarkable. The crash involving Gilkes and Spencer was horrific, one of the worst I've seen for many years. It was a minor miracle that they both walked away unscathed. Despite all of the dramas, it was a decent meeting last night with incidents galore and some very good racing.
  15. Bowtell certainly looked happier on a flat out track like Owlerton than the tight turns at Eastbourne. Very similar to his spell on the island last year.
  16. Hot and cold. I've seen him have good and bad meetings for Rye.
  17. I'd say that was an excellent attendance for Stoke. I saw Kent there earlier in the season, and the crowd was a fraction of that.
  18. Going to meetings is enough for me, i don't particularly want to read about it. There is a website called speedway news now where i can catch the latest club press releases. I only need the line ups and an accurate weather forecast to determine wether i go or not.
  19. Severe weather warnings were issued yesterday and major traffic delays. It don't take much to stop people going, and who can blame them.
  20. Promoters couldn't give a monkeys about the away line ups, unless you are one of the few that have ambitions about winning something. The home meetings are the ones that matter, when it comes to balancing the books at the end of the season. How can Glasgow be expected to sell tonights meeting to the paying public.
  21. Should be an afternoon meeting really. King's Lynn would have been ideal.
