  1. With the lowering of standards in the top flight, i can see the NL being sacrificed to prop up the middle tier. Where would that leave the likes of Kent with their strict planning restrictions and the other stand alone clubs.
  2. If the rumours of the NL Becoming an MDL type of training league are true, older riders like Ledwith might not be eligible.
  3. Someone's telling porkys then. In the match report it stated a 'strict 10.30pm curfew'
  4. Fair play to you. My speedway career ended half way around the first bend at Wimbledon, with the safety fence on top of me!
  5. Reading and Sheffield also had training tracks inside the stadium grounds.
  6. The proposed dumbing down of the NL might exclude a few of those. Riders of a certain level might be forced up to ride in a watered down middle tier.
  7. Maybe someone statistically minded like Arnie could produce a list of all the 0-0"s since 1965. He did tell me the amount awhile ago, but my memory is not what it was!
  8. I heard the same rumour on Saturday. Far too many 'Cooks' spoil the brew!
  9. Clubs running two teams in this day and age are never going to make money Sid. It's a good job some do, it helps keep the numbers up in an ever shrinking NL.
  10. Now the play offs have gone, it's all about the wonga.
  11. Gonna be tight to get all 30 heats done by curfew time. Good luck to all of those going.
  12. It was a good move from the Eagles fans point of view, but disastrous in terms of team building. He was never going to match his starting average.
  13. He was at his peak on the defunct Lakeside forum. He was Jon Cook's biggest admirer!
  14. No claxon Sid, those days are gone. I'm a regular at Eastie, only 75mins drive door to door for me. The crowds have been good this season, hovering around the thousand mark.
  15. Eastbourne laid on subsidised admission for the travelling Leicester fans last night. The Lions are doing likewise today.
  16. A decent meeting at Eastie tonight watched by a big crowd. The highlight for me was two brilliant rides from Scott Nicholls to pass Lawson and Schlein. There's still life in the old boy!.
  17. Fair play to them. I like Brum as a track, i've been six times from London this season.
  18. They should be made to run them, but in this financial climate, probably wont.
  19. I was working on the track staff that wet night in June 1991. The rain drops camouflaged my tears. I must sound like a right wet blanket, it must be an age thing. At the last ever at Lakeside last year, there were no tears, just a sad resignation.
  20. Have a good emotional night at Loomer Road tonight. For once the weather gods are behaving themselves, and don't be shy to shed a tear. My first last ever was at West Ham a lifetime ago, and i cried like a baby. I was only a wee lad at the time, so i had an excuse!
  21. Does the NL get any meaningful press in the sports media. It really is the poor relation of British speedway.
  22. The first two, always a chance. Oxford are consigned to the history books.
  23. I feel the same way. I can see it being two leagues with no third tier. With the demise of Stoke and doubts over the likes of Cradley and Plymouth, a five Team NL would hardly be viable for the remaining clubs.
