  1. I remember 'stans' match reports from the London tracks in the early 1970's.
  2. The story of his vast collection going straight into the skip is the stuff of legends. Probably one of the biggest losses of speedway memorabilia in recent times. These days with the internet, it's not hard to find out what something is worth, a real tragedy for us collectors.
  3. I'm looking forward to it, hopefully the weather plays ball.
  4. I remember seeing him at Rye House meetings in the early to mid 1970's.
  5. I think the Prudential bought it initially, i don't know if they still own the land.
  6. Absolutely. The likes of West Ham were flattened immediately, yet it will probably take years to build on the Arena Essex site. Why not leave these stadiums active until planning permission is obtained.
  7. Reading still hasn't been built on, 11 years after closure.
  8. What else is new. It was lovely to travel to Brum last Wednesday in sunny weather.
  9. Still an excellent source of Data.
  10. Thanks for the info, i didn't realise my photo was as early as 1955. Age does play tricks with the memory sometimes!.
  11. Does that site only include league matches. I think Les only appeared in Brittania Shield meetings for Wimbledon.
  12. But, don't you think that showcasing how bad speedway is to a national audience, does the sport more harm than good. At least get the product right befoe exposing it to the world. It amazes me there are still TV companies prepared to take it on.
  13. It might be just a coincidence, but since televised domestic speedway started, crowds have declined on a yearly basis. Anyone watching it for the first time, would hardly be tempted to hand over £20 to see it live. The last few offerings have been bloody awful, racing wise.
  14. I have got a photo of Les in Wimbledon colours in my collection. I beleive he made a few appearances for the Dons in 1960, give or take a year.
  15. So would i, yet some 'promoters' still think the updates site has a detrimental impact on their crowds!
  16. That's the problem you get when riders are attached to multiple teams.
  17. Watching the Radar throughout the meeting, i was suprised it got to 10. Did you take advantage of the free admission offered to Brummie regulars.
  18. I can see the points limit being reduced next season, to accommodate teams potentially moving up, in both leagues.
  19. A big well done to all of the riders last night, for getting on with the job in very difficult conditions and ensuring we got a result. The financial implications of a rain off would have been dire, for both clubs.
  20. I was out of the car park quicker lan Lewis Hamilton tonight!
