  1. I was fortunate to see PK on a regular basis at Lakeside in his latter years. It was a dump, but i really miss the old place.
  2. Advised i reckon. I never take advice from the missus. I agree to everything and do nothing!
  3. A lot of people knock spectator sports on the head when they settle down and have kids, some never go again. I carried on going regardless. I've always been a selfish bugger!
  4. I know what meant. It depends on how many people were still being infected. Normal speedway meetings probably wouldn't be a problem, but I'd give premier league football a miss and attend lower league matches instead.
  5. It depends if the cases had reduced accordingly. Three out of the four people in my household are key workers. We try to minimise the risks as much as we can. It's a very stressful time for everyone.
  6. No chance. Who in their right mind would attend a big sporting event with no vaccine in place. I just can't see the authorities allowing it to happen. A big surge in cases would put the NHS under immense strain.
  7. Until the social distancing is lifted Sid, i can't see any sport resuming in this country. I bought a 10 match ticket at Eastbourne for this season. It seemed like a good idea at the time, especially as entitled me to a £5 discount at several southern tracks. I hope i get the opportunity to use it.
  8. I think it might reach the stage Sid, that people can't afford regular meetings anymore. Two a month would be plenty in the current climate. If this means better quality, I'm all for it. As long as the fans are not priced out of attending.
  9. Nail on the head, maybe a four team tournament with a one off finals day.
  10. Absolutely, i must be a babe in arms then!
  11. I must shut up. I'm drifting off topic, harking back to the 'good old days'!
  12. One of his away matches was an abandoned meeting at West Ham. He must have got the shock of his life seeing the wide open spaces at Custom House!
  13. I also saw Steve Bast ride a couple of meetings for Wembley in 1970. I was just a wee lad at the time!
  14. Like i said Sid, John was like Marmite, you either liked him or you didn't. I got on well with him. Regarding the yanks. I remember seeing Autrey having after the meeting spins at Wimbledon in the early 1970's, and Gene Woods had a short spell riding for the Dons in 1981. It's a shame he didn't stick with it, he was a stylish rider with lots of potential.
  15. I knew John Berry well, when he was running Wimbledon. He could be a funny guy with a great sense of humour, he also had a very serious side when it came to speedway. I got on well with him, he was a pleasure to work with.
  16. Well said Brian. Some people think the older fans are holding the sport back. I think the blame lies squarely with the promoters. They feathered their own nests when times were good, with no thought for the future. Visionary promoters like John Berry were allowed to leave the sport, and a lot of good ideas went with him.
  17. There are some tough decisions that need to be made regarding the future of the NL. Will the current clubs that run two teams, still have the finances to do so. Scary times for all levels of the sport.
  18. Because the roads are gridlocked and most tracks are in out of town locations.
  19. You certainly won't find many of the current promoters implementing the changes that you want. New blood is needed on both sides of the fence. Maybe the sport can rise from the ashes at the end of this crisis, but I'm not holding my breath.
  20. The majority of fans want a swiftly run meeting. Standing around for hours doesent appeal to everyone. That's what i like about football, it runs like clockwork.
  21. Didn't king's Lynn recently run a similar two day event and no one turned up.
  22. A couple of seasons ago BMR put on a motocross demonstration at Rye House during the interval of a speedway meeting. Everyone cleared off to the bar. Speedway fans are different from fans of other motorsports, maybe that is the problem.
  23. Will the clubs that survive have the funds to pay the 'top' riders. So many people will lose their jobs and a night at the speedway will be well down their priorities. I hope the sport can survive, but like life, it will never be the same again.
  24. Maybe with the odd individual meeting thrown in.
  25. I went to Wembley 72, 75, 78, 81, Bradford 85, 90, Norden 83, Gothenburg 84, Amsterdam 87 & Munich 89. I also did the long track finals at Korskro 82, Marianske Lazne 83 & Herxheim 84.
