The Prince of Wales was also very close to the stadium. The Plough was always my local, i seldom used the other three. I used to go in the Sportsman at the other end of Plough Lane prior to attending football matches.

Will there be a premiership next season. Speedway's finances might dictate otherwise.

The super dome!

I went to the last GP at Odsal in 1997. I think Brian Andersen won it.

It might be all over for Rye House

Pretty grim reading, from a speedway point of view. -
It might be all over for Rye House

Since the new Gym was built and the dog kennels demolished, any new circuit would encroach on the speedway track. -

No room for a dog track at Rye, those days are long gone. -
A very good announcer as well.

For the division 2 test series of the early 1970's, a horses for courses manager was appointed for every meeting.

Speedway at Rye was losing money before BMR got involved. Len knew this and sold them a dead duck. The crowds were down and the stadium needed major investment. Len never hangs around once a track starts to go into the red, he's no mug when it comes to business. -

Early in the 2017 season, top flight racing at Rye just about held its own on saturday nights. Once the midweek fixtures kicked in, the crowds dropped off alarmingly. The fixed race nights of 2018 all but finished the track off. Lakeside did move in to Rye at the end of the season, but it proved to be a disaster for the future of both clubs. -

I wish them well also. For me personally, i don't live in London anymore. I have far easier options more local to me. As i get older, the thought of squeezing into London transport or sitting in the M25 car park do nothing for me. Those fans that live north of the river should take up the fight, before it's too late. -

A predictable but sad end for the launch pad. When i saw the place at the amateur meeting in December, the writing was on the wall. I hope I'm proved wrong and the Rockets will ride again. -
To be fair to Eastbourne, i haven't asked for a refund. They did announce that any meetings staged this season would be free to season ticket holders, and their current tickets would be valid for next year. A decent gesture if speedway returns.
-
So my 10 meeting ticket money at Eastbourne, is probably long gone!
-
Absolutely, that money should be put in a separate account. Not used to service over areas of the business.

The Glasgow decision was made by professional people that run a successful business. Well done to them.

Poole Pirates 2021
cityrebel replied to Pirates Of Poole's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I saw Poole Town play Newport County there in the FA cup back in the early 80's. It seemed a strange football ground with no terracing behind the goals. -

Rumours of Poole town looking at a return, could be a solution. -

Swindon will be looking over their shoulders as well. -

Looking at photos on Facebook, the new 'gym' seems very close to the safety fence. Maybe the new owners intend to move the track over to accommodate it.

British Speedway to be reborn?
cityrebel replied to Theboss's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
It will be interesting to see how many tracks return after the enforced break, especially if it runs into 2021. Some stadiums might be forced to close, with next to no income. -
British Speedway to be reborn?

The age of the average speedway fan will have an effect, plus financial hardship will impact upon a lot of people.
