  1. I worked at Wimbledon when Berry was there. He was more of a caretaker than a promoter. The club was skint and struggling to survive. He was brought in to steady the ship. I don't think his heart was really in it. The following season the Lannings arrived.
  2. I was thinking the same thing about the SON, due to be staged at Belle Vue in October.
  3. Superb, it will be perfect for wet meetings as well!
  4. The London Lions in 1996 was a tenner to get in. Astonishing, considering most tracks were charging £6 at the time. Despite all of problems at the stadium, i only missed 2 meetings there that season. I must have been mad!
  5. I was there, but the world has changed massively since then.
  6. Some meetings in September would be a treat.
  7. Some of the diehards may have been personally affected by the bug, or have lost their jobs. Some may have lost interest because of the enforced break. Replacing any absentees will be virtually impossible.
  8. I remember going to a football match at Shielfield park and catching the special bus from the car park to Berrington Lough. Strange times.
  9. Absolutely. Speedway is far too costly for everyone involved in the sport. The crowd figures don't justify the outlay.
  10. 800 is a pretty decent turn out nowadays. As a sport, its attendances put it on a par with non league football.
  11. The BSPA have to have a long term plan in case the bug doesent go away, otherwise the sport will be consigned to the history books.
  12. How long can they delay it for. If the expected second wave arrives this winter and is still around come March, do they pull the plug on next season as well. This bug is something we might have to live with for a few years. Speedway needs to prepare itself, just like other sports have, or suffer the consequences.
  13. I don't think that many promoters would have been rushing to get clearance off of their local authority. The government have given them a get out of jail card. Apart from Scunny, there hasn't been a mad rush to put any meetings on.
  14. It was inevitable really. The logistics in getting everyone to and from the Island isn't worth the risk.
  15. British youth championship at Scunny, £6 inc prog. Can't be bad, I've got my ticket!
  16. I'd go anything at the moment. The boredom is becoming unbearable. Hopefully Non league football will start soon, add to that the odd speedway or grasstrack meeting before the year is over.
  17. With Stoke gone, crowds might increase if there was a Buxton revival.
  18. I agree with you. That is the real reason.
  19. Well you tell me the reason, and don't give me the amateur/ professional excuse. It's the same amount of people entering the same stadium. What makes it safer for stock cars than speedway.
  20. At the end of the day regardless of the sport, why is it safe to let people into stadiums to watch cars, but not bikes. The virus can't tell the two sports apart, or maybe it can!
  21. Absolutely. I feel the powers that be sat back and waited for the government to make the decision for them. The stock car promotors have probably been lobbying non stop to get to the position they are now.
