  1. Exeter and Romford spring to mind. The low concrete wall at Brooklands was a scary place to stand. As a child, i only did it once!
  2. He was riding for Hackney, when i first went to the Wick in 1970.
  3. I take each day as it comes. I haven't been to football since March 14, but I've managed to squeeze in a couple of speedway meetings at Lydd and Scunthorpe. Hopefully i'll get to a few more.
  4. I've accepted the situation. This seasons FA cup final was the first domestic Arsenal final I've missed in 40 years. With little chance of grounds returning to full capacity anytime soon, I'll give my support to my local non league clubs, that are due to get going next week.
  5. My missus cancelled BT sport at the start of the lockdown. SKY sports will be next. Watching football matches behind closed doors don't do it for me.
  6. Dorothy B was also a massive Ronnie Moore fan. I own a couple of Wimbledon race jackets that came from her collection. Reg Luckhurst's 1974 Dons Jacket and a muti signed Wimbledon jacket from 1975.
  7. I went to Meadowbank v Stranraer football in 1985, as part of a Speedway tour.
  8. My first meeting at Brandon was the 1977 British Final, my last was Lakeside in the final season. Not the best race track, but a very professionally run stadium.
  9. I wore a mask under my chin at Scunthorpe, in case i needed the toilet. It wasn't compulsory, but a few people chose to wear them.
  10. Absolutely. I was dragged up on a south London council estate. Now i live in leafy Surrey, i don't use such disgusting phrases, well not very often!
  11. You've led a very sheltered life, Steve!
  12. I had the luxury of travelling to meetings in an S type jag in those days. My old man had a fit, when it got covered in shale dust in the Rayleigh car park!
  13. So did i, we sat in the Hackney car park thinking it would be off. I also went to Australia v New Zealand at Wimbledon, New Zealand v Russia at Reading and the Wembley final.
  14. What doesn't do the sport any good, is every track shutting up shop. If this bug carries on through the winter and into next spring, will next season be cancelled as well. If that's the case, some clubs will never return.
  15. I went there twice. Once for a rain off and also the last PL level meeting against Arena Essex. It was quite a sparce stadium, but the track was a good shape. On a gorgeous sunny evening, the crowd was no more than 200!
  16. The world of common sense, Steve. Although I'm probably in the minority!
  17. I'm suprised Belle Vue isn't behind closed doors, especially with Greater Manchester hovering around the amber mark, regarding bug activity.
  18. Anyone who quits the BSF over a difference of opinion, must have very thin skin. I've had plenty of digs aimed at me over the years, and i couldn't give a monkeys. The forum's purpose is to debate, not to agree with everything someone might say, wether that be positive or negative.
  19. Yep, i remember them being sold at Wimbledon in the mid 1970's.
  20. A lot of that is down to the local authority, hence stock cars at Ipswich, yet none at Mildenhall.
  21. Didn't all the great promoters of the past treat every meeting like a one off event. If you can't big up the product you are trying to sell, what chance do you have. As an IOW regular, i would say that Barry's communication skills go down well with the punters. Keeping the fans involved is a big plus, especially when I'm making a mad dash for the 21.47 ferry. I always remember Johnnie Hoksins greeting every fan as he passed through the turnstiles at Canterbury. That's what you call customer care!
  22. The bounce might not happen, if admission prices are at their current rate. We are in a world wide recession and the cost to the public has to reflect this.
  23. You were the loudest Norman!
  24. The Gollob v Boyce punch up was tremendous entertainment!
