I don't get what the big secret is. If it was for tax purposes, the authorities would be all over it. Maybe the promoters are embarrassed by the low crowds.
Why don't speedway clubs publish their attendance figures. Even the lowest non league football clubs reveal their crowd numbers. Speedway never has, even in the good times for the sport.
Surely at the start, most of the events will have to be all ticket. I don't mind committing myself for a local meeting, but i certainly wouldn't gamble long distance. Everything points to lower crowds, mainly due to Covid restrictions and the average age of UK speedway fans.
I saw Josh Warren ride at Lydd for the Thurrock Hammers at the back end of last 'season'. From memory he definitely improved as the meeting wore on. He had Danny King in his corner that day.
Being an IOW regular, it's a real kick in the teeth for us fans in the South East. Lakeside and Rye gone, and now the Island. I don't know how Mildenhall are going to run with so few home meetings.
The leagues should have been regionalised for this season. If parts of the country are in different tiers with no spectators allowed, it would be financial suicide for some clubs to run meetings behind closed doors.
I went to all of those at Wembley, most at the NEC. I also went to the London Arena, Manchester GMEX, Milton Keynes Bladerunner, Hull Arena, Telford, Murrayfield, Bournemouth and Brighton!
