  1. i must say i'm suprised we have more tracks here than any other country.
  2. you and me both. it's the same journey for me from south of the river. i'm still feeling tired from going to lakeside last night in that heat!.
  3. i think most people are still recovering from handing over £25 to watch last sundays double header!.
  4. i feel sorry for the fen tigers this sunday. firstly having to face bournemouth on track as well as england v germany off track.
  5. thanks for the early team news jayne. is there any chance you could post the full buxton line up prior to the meeting. at the moment it's looking like i might give this one a miss.
  6. speedway at the white city or the one show. it's a tough choice!.
  7. to be fair, on friday the football ground toilets were clean and believe it or not the lights were working!.
  8. the british finals i went to in the 1970's were all mid week, west ham on a tuesday and coventry on wednesdays. it never stopped the crowds from turning up in big numbers.
  9. the british final these days is nothing like the finals i went to as a kid at west ham and coventry. those were raced in front of 20,000 crowds and were really hard meetings to win. we as a nation just don't have enough riders of that standard anymore. i thought last night's final made good viewing with plenty of incident on a grippy track. it kept my intrest going right to the end which takes some doing for these type of meetings!.
  10. at weymouth there are proper toilets to use inside the football ground. i was also at this meeting on friday and although i got fed up with the tractor problems these things happen at speedway. running a track at this level can be a real struggle and most venues find it hard to survive.
  11. i was there that night. it was a shocking accident and one i will never forget.
  12. i thought about going to mildenhall yesterday but when i noticed the cars were racing on saturday night i went to newport instead. i always plan my visits to west row around the stock car fixture list. no cars = more time to prepare a decent track.
  13. when i was a kid briggo always had plenty of time for the fans. he never refused to sign an autograph or have a chat. some riders like mauger and monk could be really hard work. although a few years later when i travelled with ivan to poland on his farewell tour i found him to be a really nice bloke and felt guilty for booing him all those years ago.
  14. tommy and ronnie moore were my favourite wimbledon riders. i can remember going to school and being told by my friends about the accident. i was so upset i could not face going to the following weeks meeting against swindon. in my opinion wimbledon speedway never recovered from his tragic demise.
  15. the format for this competition is the reason why i stopped going to pairs and fours events years ago. almost all of the meetings i go to now are league or cup matches.
  16. i went to newport a couple of weeks ago for the rye house match. the referee used video evidence after the last race to help him make the decision to exclude linus sundstrom. his verdict cost the rockets a win on the day.
  17. i agree, i remember having trouble phoning a cab after a sunday meeting against edinburgh in 2001. luckily some kind soul gave me a lift back to the station.
  18. hi eddie, the wick was a great race track up until 1983 when uncle len ran it. 1n 1984 when crayford moved in and they changed the track it was never the same for me. and as for the london lions era the track was even worse.
  19. they say that records are made to be broken. you would have to wait a long time for someone to beat alan sage's superb feat of not missing meetings.
  20. as a kid i saw alan sage ride plenty of times for west ham at custom house. in later years he was a loyal crayford team man before ending his career at arena essex. a couple of years ago someone told me he was having a go at stock car racing.
  21. the bus service was too unreliable. in the end very few people used it.
  22. no problem robbie, i'm pleased i could help.
  23. hi robbie, have a look on the greyhound derby website. it has loads of pictures of speedway badges from all tracks and all are dated.
  24. well rob, i worked at wimbledon helping prepare the speedway track for 22 years. does that qualify me for an opinion.
