a very enjoyable match at smallbrook last night. a hard fought win for the heathens against the islanders with the riders from both sides giving their all. and finally well done to the ref for pushing the meeting along so we could get the earlier ferry.
i remember stoke winning 39-38 at rye house in the 1990's. if my memory serves me right stoke gated on a 5-1 in heat 15, kevin brice fell and mel taylor had ef in the rerun gifting the potters a 5-0 and the match!
i've been to the last two meetings on the IOW. they are a stronger team now than they were earlier in the season. even a point gained at smallbrook would be a good result.
hi rob, you beat me to it. i was at that meeting at the county ground in 1991. i'm sure the hammers got a 5-1 in the last race to complete a remarkable comeback.
for any prospective promoter at mildenhall there is a lot of work involved in getting ready for a speedway meeting after saturday night car racing. with low crowds and little financial reward you have to admire anyone for taking that on. good luck for the future you will need it.
a good match on the island last night. a well run meeting with some decent racing all finished by 9.10. catching the 9.45 ferry was a real bonus for us facing work the next day!
no, i thought the jacket might be From the BLRC because it has a white number on the back. all my other dons jackets have yellow numbers. after checking all my photos i think the jacket dates from the early 1950's which makes it even rarer. you can't beat the joys of being a collector!
i'm trying to match up a wimbledon race jacket from my own collection. does anyone know what numbers the dons riders used in the BLRC finals from 1965 to 1970. can anyone help.
i went to the veterans meeting at lydd yesterday and bumped into a very fit looking reg luckhurst. one of my heroes as a kid at west ham and wimbledon. has there been an article on reg.
the lokeren tragedy made front page headlines in the london evening news. i still have the copy my parents bought somewhere. as a kid i remember going to west ham for the memorial meeting. the two things that have stayed with me all these years later are the sunny weather that day and ivan mauger and olle nygren riding round on dirt track duggies. RIP
i'm not a fan of the gp's but i thought last night was a good meeting. the track held up and it was very well run. the earlier start time is much better for me although it still takes ages to get home.
