my most vivid memory of the golden helmet is also my saddest. in 1976 one of my speedway heroes tommy jansson died when he was holder of the title. cyril maidment gave me one of the race jackets used in the jansson match races from that season. it still remains in my collection.
you never know. long time defunct clubs like newport, weymouth, plymouth, birmingham, scunthorpe, st.austell, wimbledon and leicester have come and gone over the last few years. you just have to keep the faith!
putting the price up and dropping the 'rye house' name was the final straw for some of the die hards that used to follow the nl team at hoddesdon, me included. this is not a moan just an observation!
i do hope they get a decent crowd on friday, but out of all the arena regulars i know only one might be going. still there should be a good turnout of dudley fans to boost the numbers.
you'll have to forgive mr.tadman shadders. you see he has a dream, that one day his beloved hawks or is it romford bombers will race in the olympic park. seriously as an ex dons fan i do hope that paul's dream comes true and we get real speedway back in london.
hi derek. it was a newspaper type publication covering the london and essex tracks. from memory it ran from around 1970 to 1972. it was very basic and looked like it had been printed in someones front room!
it's not just the cost for me but a lack of intrest in the meeting. none of the twenty or so rye regulars i know are going either. i will be going to eastbourne v birmingham on saturday because league matches always take priority for me.
they are not replicas or copys. they are plastic button badges with the teams logo on the front. if they have not been made before how can they be remakes?
i've just read on the BSPA site that lampart has been banned from riding for eastbourne. it looks like things are coming to a head regarding the silencers.
i have a few of the london club johnson badges in my own collection. my mate dave russell has produced loads of these badges, identical in style to the johnson issues but in far greater numbers. dave usually sells these on his stall at the paradise park events.
