  1. when i was a good few years younger i was lucky enough to meet the great man on several occasions. even as a youngster i knew i was in the presence of a speedway legend. my most endearing memory of johnnie hoskins was seeing him greet the fans on their arrival at kingsmead. how many promoters would do that these days!
  2. it could be karl fiala. he's been having a few spins recently!
  3. i would not be suprised if len thought only 300 would turn up. if you can't get the crowds in for the league matches then why would they come for an end of season individual meeting. to be honest i'm shocked to hear there was a big turn out there last night and lets hope for more of the same at the launch pad in 2012.
  4. are the short track races being run during the speedway or after the main event on sunday. it could be a late night with a 6pm start, i hope all you brave souls enjoy it.
  5. as a nipper i went to the 1970 staging of the london fours. great memories of great clubs. RIP london speedway.
  6. that was the tragic thing about his death. he survived all those crashes during his racing career and ended up dying in a road accident.
  7. sounds great value for money in these hard times.
  8. ron had already retired by the time i went to my first meeting in september 1968. he was without a doubt one of the all time greats in the history of wimbledon speedway. RIP ron.
  9. jon cook's coming out of retirement is he bryn!
  10. at eastbourne on monday it was confirmed arlington is staging a gb u23 v australia u23 match on october 22. i might be tempted to go to this if the line ups are decent.
  11. 5pm on a saturday afternoon seems a strange start time, anyone know why.
  12. i remember seeing him ride when i was a kid at the four 1st division london tracks in the early 1970s. he was a top class heat leader for the tigers in my favourite era for speedway.
  13. add on the prog and it will be nearly 30 quid, far too expensive for this type of meeting.
  14. the lacemen was an unofficial nickname used when they raced as nottingham olympic. in 1933 they rode as the wasps at the rebuilt white city stadium. i know all of this info because i'm half way through reading the history of nottingham and long eaton speedway book!
  15. nottingham were known as the wasps in 1933.
  16. the county ground had its critics, but i loved it there. i was a regular visitor there right up until its closure in 2005 and i miss it greatly.
  17. maybe uncle len can talk two laps tom out of retirement!
  18. i didn't realise derek barclay worked for the northern echo!
