  1. people will turn up for a one off event, it's getting them to go every week which is the problem!

    London Cup

and from 1969 to 1971 minus wembley because of a lack of dates at the empire stadium. i'm sure white city had similar problems in 1976 to 1978.
  3. i think that might be a non starter now that football is being staged there again.
  4. wombwell staged speedway training schools in the mid 1960's.
  5. iwade are in the same boat as the IOW. i can see there being some casualties this winter because of the air fence issue.
  6. it's a great service and it's hard to believe how we ever done without it. i can remember when i was a kid in the 1970's pre teletext, i used to phone the track to get the result if wimbledon were riding in a long distance away match!.
  7. a decent hard fought match last night, well run due to the incoming weather and the proposed 9.15 power cut!. let's hope it was not the last ever meeting on the island, i would miss my trips across the solent, where i have been a regular visitor since 1996.
  8. as a neutral i think it's a tired looking line up, a typical len silver team from recent years.
  9. the forecast for monday is terrible, i'd be suprised if it's on.
  10. on wednesday 26th october 1983 crayford raced newcastle in the last ever speedway meeting staged at the london road stadium. i was there that fateful night not knowing there would be no more racing at the smart kent venue. it was so long ago, but it seems like yesterday!
  11. hi mike, i reckon the IOW were thinking the same thing, after three laps of heat fifteen of the 2nd leg of the first semi final!!!
  12. so thursday 31st on the island then, weather permitting!
  13. it could be a nightmare trying to get this run in the last few days of the season. with storms forecast on monday, that only leaves tuesday and thursday to stage both legs, with the heathens due at king's lynn on wednesday. unless something can be squeezed in this weekend, the weather gods will decide the outcome of this competition!
  14. as this awful season draws to a close there are a few already a few tracks with uncertain futures. with falling crowds and the added cost of installing an air fence at some venues, will some clubs call it a day. let's hope they all survive to come to the tapes in 2014.
  15. a bit injury prone, rye have had far too many riders sitting on the sidelines in recent seasons.
  16. this tie should have been decided by a run off after the 2nd leg of the original staging. it's far too late in the season to be running replays. with the weather looking unsettled over the next few days, i can see some of this years fixtures not being completed.
  17. derek, rayleigh rode in a challenge match at boston on 31st march 1974, why this meeting was raced i do not know. rayleigh badges were also produced for the 1974 season, identical to the rye house badges from that year!
  18. derek, romford have benefited from the demise of all of the local competition, especially walthamstow. imagine if all those nearby venues like west ham, dagenham, harringay, hackney and clapton were still running, their crowds would be a lot lower. it's a bit like lakeside really, most of the hammers crowd is made up of fans of defunct london/south east clubs, me included!
  19. dave was part of the promotion during the dons CL era. he is still going to speedway, i saw him on the isle of wight last week.
  20. zorro is a must for this meeting, after watching him poodle round at the back at arlington on saturday. along with smolinski, they are the 'in form' riders at the moment!
  21. at the moment my prediction of four pull outs is spot on, no doubt by saturday evening there might be more!
  22. drat!, does that mean i'm going to have to 'tout' it on the night!
  23. only if he keeps the tassels on his kevlars!
