  1. As an ex wimbledon fan i attend four 'local' tracks now that one of my other regular venues the IOW has closed. Out of rye, kent, eastbourne and lakeside, the home of the hammers is the hardest for me to motivate myself to go to. It's difficult to get to from south london and standing on a grass bank for a couple of hours gets harder as i get older. I think The lack of facilities at most speedway tracks puts a lot of people off from attending.
  2. I'm suprised that a challenge match at rye takes preference over a league match at arlington.
  3. It's the shape mike, there have been plenty of small tracks like wolves, mildenhall and trelawny that have produced good racing. There are others like eastbourne, lakeside and crayford that are/were tricky. To be fair The racing at rye house has improved in the last few seasons.
  4. the track is in prince regent lane, opposite to where the main grandstand at custom house stadium once stood.
  5. That's the last time I post on this forum at 5am in the morning!
  6. An excellent post paulco and an excellent insight into the roving history of the tiggers. I've been to the last four of the glasgow tracks plus the last ever workington tigers against my wimbledon dons. After a good few years at ashfield you must be due to move again!
  7. Good luck with all of those problems. I really miss going to the league matches at the old gun site.
  8. There are quite a few postings on facebook saying that iwade speedway has closed. Has anybody heard anything to confirm this.
  9. If a new site could be found who is going to finance the purchase of the land and the building of a new stadium.
  10. Mick hines who gave great service to both ipswich and wimbledon.
  11. walthamstow's short season in 1934 ended with a court injunction due to noise complaints. This led to the club relocating to hackney wick in 1935, you see the nimby's were with us even in those far away days!
  12. God knows what state British speedway will be in by the time this new stadium gets built. The whole sport might be running at NL level by then!
  13. West ham was sold to the dreaded GRA to fund the refurbishment of brandon stadium. The first thing the GRA did was pull down half of the stadium. The writng was on the wall for that great london venue.
  14. David hamilton is on the mic at fulham and used to announce at reading tilehurst and wembley lions in the 1970's.
  15. Tuesdays will seem strange to me this season, not rushing down to Pompey to catch the fast cat to ryde. I have many good memories of smallbrook stadium. the big crowds of the wight wizards era, the superb riding of Shaun Tacey when PL racing arrived on the island, the Aussie invasion including the great chris holder and finally the islanders return to the NL. I have enjoyed them all and hope we will meet again one day.
  16. Too right derek, west ham is my all time favourite speedway track and highbury is my football clubs spiritual home. Wimbledon stadium the home of my beloved dons will soon be joining those two defunct iconic london sporting venues.
  17. Yes he did. Lofqvist was a very exciting rider. My first visit to west ham was his first meeting as a hammer. So i was won over at an early age!
  18. I met karl fiala at the lydd veterans meeting a couple of years ago. He seemed a very nice bloke who is still very keen on all things speedway!
