Ray wilson's track record from Easter Monday 1970 never got beaten. I remember lofqvist winning a race on his debut but I think ronnie Moore beat him twice on his way to a maximum. Anyway back to Hyde road, great track sorely missed!

Worrying Rye House Rumours

Len sat near me in the grandstand for the whole meeting at the showground yesterday. Very unusual for a promoter not to be with his riders in the pits. -

Not my cup of tea this meeting, so it's a rare Monday in front of the TV for me tonight. Good luck to those competing and enjoy the racing those that are watching! -
I totally agree with you, custom house was the Hyde road of the south. The bends were taken in for jack young's benefit in the mid 1950's. My mum told me this, I was not born at the time!. My first visit to west ham was in May 1970.

Peterborough V Rye House Sun 14th Sept

A decent meeting today despite the farcical attempts to repair the air fence, these delays are what annoy fans the most. The Bowen & roynon clash in heat 8 was a cracker, it's a shame more people weren't there to see it. -
the cheap option!!!

Being a veteran of about 25 meetings at Hyde road (not bad for a Londoner!), I have seen some good and bad meetings there. The trips I enjoyed the most were those when the zoo and the funfair were in full swing. Towards the late 1980's the track was still fine, but the stadium with it's wooden stands we're starting to look a bit tired. No doubt my favourite track of all time, west ham's custom house would have looked the same had it survived as long. Two great venues that were monuments of the sport that will never be forgotten by me.

uncle Len might ban you for bringing your own booze in shads! -
Tomorrow evening sees the last team event of the season at the launch pad, it could be a tight meeting. Will it be the last ever league match at rye or will uncle lens new look rockets return next year. No doubt there will be a lot of rumours over the coming months.

As a neutral and Central Park regular, I'm pleased that the kings have made the play offs. It's another meeting for me to go to in the south east, with eastbourne and lakeside having already finished their home fixtures.

I think both the heathens and kent, crowd wise are ready to move up. With Devon looking very unlikely to run next season, a few new teams would be needed to make the NL viable. -

i wouldn't pin your hopes on rye house having much of a long term future either! -
I agree, a very good meeting tonight. One of the best I've seen at Central Park since the track opened. I was also impressed with the floodlights, suitable for any TV meetings that might happen in the future!

Belle Vue National Stadium

At the rate the crowds are falling across the country, I hope there are enough fans still attending speedway to make the stadium viable WHEN it gets built. -

You should offer your services to uncle Len, shads. You can be the man to save rye house speedway, fans will travel for miles to sample your battered delights! -

Fair play to you shads. I was not at the launch pad last night, I went to Arlington instead. Another venue with a far from certain future. Let's hope the eagles and the rockets survive to fight another day, and come to the tapes in 2015.
