  1. we were talking about clapton greyhound stadium in millfields road, not lea bridge speedway stadium, which was in lea bridge road.
  2. I never went to clapton, but it looked like an impressive stadium from the photos I have seen.
  3. i agree, You would have thought that many of the top riders would be queuing up to appear in this worthwhile event.
  4. i worked in dog racing for 22 years at all of the big london tracks. I followed in my mums footsteps, she worked at Wimbledon, wandsworth and park royal in the 1960's.
  5. I ain't set foot in the place since the last speedway meeting in 2005.
  6. great minds think alike!
  7. No prefabs left here in south london. Pie and mash though, is still alive and kicking. Harrington's pie shop in tooting will be my destination tomorrow afternoon!
  8. I was a regular at the wick from 1970 until the demise of the london lions at the end of 1996. The track during the Len silver era did produce some excellent racing, but the safety fence was totally inadequate for the job. Things did improve safety wise during the kestrels period but the racing suffered due to the track alterations. The track changed completely again in 1995, but was a shadow of its former self. I do have many fond memories of hackney speedway, but most of these are pre 1984.
  9. Romford was also a pretty scary track with a concrete wall as a safety fence for three quarters of the circuit. A nice stadium though, with huge crowds surrounded by houses!.
  10. Have the full line ups for this meeting been released yet, surely the programmes will have to be printed soon.
  11. Despite being a lifelong Wimbledon fan, it has to be west ham for me. Quite a few of my formative meetings were attended at custom house. That grand old stadium made a huge impact on my speedway life as a youngster.
  12. Hi, has anybody got the full details of Alan mogridge's first testimonial meeting. I need the date, venue, line up and heat details. Thanks!
  13. I remember it well. It was a large magazine with a sheet of paper inside!
  14. you are correct in what you say about the the start and finish being altered, I was working on the track staff for that meeting. It might have been the last FIM event to be staged at plough lane, although I'm not sure if the world games was FIM in 1985.
  15. spedeworth ran stock car and banger racing at rye in the non speedway years. The lift and lay track of 2000 was a bit on the narrow side!
  16. those that do like king's Lynn and eastbourne, do have control over their own future. What happens if crowds continue to decline at rye like they have at most british tracks. Without the silver family financing the rockets, will the new guy be prepared to subsidise any losses.
  17. leave the sarcasm to me shads!. On a serious note, why did Len sell the stadium instead of passing it on to Andrew to keep the club in the family.
  18. are you confident there will be a 2016 shads! great film!
  19. seems a bit steep to me considering PL is only £3.50 more.
  20. it says 10 quid for adult admission on website shads.
  21. dag certainly was a classy rider. As a kid I remember watching him get a 12 point maximum for reading at west ham. He was still a big scorer for oxford in 1975, although the rebels move to white city in 1976 did not do him any favours.
  22. Once the home riders get dialled in they will have a big home advantage at Arlington, just like eagles teams of the past. If they scrape together a few away wins they might get into the top four. It will be a massive culture shock going from the EL to the NL, I just hope the fans support it.
  23. I was still using one in the early 70's!
