  1. let's hope for some positive news.
  2. That's terrible news with their big meeting due to take place this Sunday. I went there last year and was very impressed with the set up and the lovely beach opposite the track.
  3. I totally agree with you shads, he's firing someone else's bullets. Len silver will always be remembered as the man who financed the rye house revival, and brought about its demise.
  4. Very worrying times for all south east speedway fans at the launch pad. With all the uncertainty surrounding lakeside's future, the last thing we need is all of this nonsense at rye. Why doesn't Len silver speak up, how can he let rye house stalwarts be shown the door. I know that he doesn't own the stadium anymore, but that should not stop him having a voice.
  5. surely clubs have to complete their fixtures, regardless of if they are dead rubbers or not. I would have thought the eagles would still have to run the home fen tigers trophy match.
  6. Len will probably see both of us out shads!
  7. It was abandoned because of rain in 1987 and restaged as a standard 16 heat four team final at hackney. I seem to remember it was run in late October, I went to both stagings of the fours that year.
  8. Totally agree with you, he is better off out of it. I just don't understand what has happened at rye this season, the whole place stinks to high heaven at the moment.
  9. Lambert will definitely put more bums on seats at the launch pad.
  10. Maybe the rockets and the raiders have merged, with only one boss instead of two?
  11. My first two memories of John Louis, like my mate 'wembley lion' were in 1970. Firstly riding for the youngs Brits against the mad Czechs at Romford, followed by the occasional appearance for west ham at custom house. What really stood out for me as a child were his 'tiger' leathers, a real flash of colour when most riders were still racing in black!
  12. I thought the track was excellent on Sunday, the best I've seen it this season.
  13. eddie, look at Robert lambert at rye the other week, he was absolutely flying. I've been going to hoddesdon since 1972, and did not think it was possible to do that sort of speed on a track that tight.
  14. i hope they do, chance of a few extra meetings for me in October.
  15. A decent well run meeting last night. The crowd was dissapointing but understandable due to the change of start time. It's been an awful weekend with the shoreham air disaster and the terrible news about darcy ward, life can be so cruel sometimes.
  16. Major problems at the launch pad. The dust off at the start of the season seems to have been the catalyst for the whole year. Internal fighting, lack of stadium improvements and a new owner that is conspicuous by his absence and his silence!
  17. Before the internet era, it was a trick of the trade for promoters to keep the line ups under wrap, especially when there were riders missing. These days there are very few secrets in speedway, with all of the different communication methods available to fans.
  18. As I left lakeside last night, I thought any first timer in attendance would find it hard to believe that speedway could be finished at purfleet. Good weather, decent racing and a big crowd, the three most important ingredients to any speedway promoter. The sport can be a success when these things come together, unfortunately they rarely do.
  19. thanks for correcting me, Ivan 8 from 5 rides I seem to remember. I knew ronnie team rode someone to victory over Mauger, it was only a lifetime ago!
  20. I first went there in May 1970. The stadium then was a shadow of its former self, with the first and second bends and back straight enclosures replaced by a concrete wall.
  21. I remember it well phil. The first leg of the 1970 cup final, even though I was just a nipper at the time. Tebby's achievement was mainly due to mirac's brilliant team riding skills! Or Preben Rosenkilde beating Ole Olsen at custom house in 1971, the cheers took the roof off the main grandstand!
  22. Andrew silver said in last Saturdays raiders programme, that trainings schools have been restricted at rye recently. Sad news in yet another depressing season at hoddesdon.
