  1. I just think that sky along with the majority of fans are sick of meetings being called off in this country. I planned to go to rye today, but over four hours of dry and windy weather was not enough to get the meeting on. I'm not having a dig at any track in particular, but if the promoters and the riders can't be bothered, why should us fans.
  2. I got there at 8am to help my mate set his stall up, but left at 12 due to my car being rapidly boxed in by double parking. It really spoilt what should have been a very successful event.
  3. In recent years every season seems the same. How some tracks survive on such low crowds never ceases to amaze me!
  4. Uncle Len might be gone, but at least sampers is still there providing us with one link to the past!
  5. A bit of a strange idea to stage it on the same day as the celebration of speedway event at paradise park.
  6. My mum, now a sprightly 80 years of age went to a speedway meeting at the stow in the early 50's. The closest I got was a two day greyhound racing maintenance course at walthamstow stadium in 1998!
  7. crayford shut at the end of the 1983 season with terry Russell in charge. Redevelopment of the london road stadium was the reason for that closure, although the bulldozers did not move in immediately.
  8. you might thinks it's funny, but I wasted time and money at perry Barr on Wednesday watching the track staff successfully destroy the meeting. Then on Sunday I wasted more time and money watching the Eastbourne riders throw multiple points away. Old habits die hard for me, and there's no fool like an old fool!
  9. You make some very valid points, but football seems to have crossed the age divide. Both of my kids are lapsed speedway fans, but can't get enough of premier league football.
  10. It just goes to prove what a joke speedway is. The farcical scenes at perry Barr on Wednesday, followed by eastbourne's antics on Sunday, are accepted as a normal day at the office for us long suffering speedway fans. No wonder people are walking away from the sport in their droves.
  11. I remember the collection buckets going around the stadium during the Newcastle match in an attempt to raise funds. It felt like the last rites for speedway in london with Wimbledon and hackney closing within weeks of each other.
  12. The track was in excellent shape yesterday. It held up well for the second match, which is a rare occurrence for most of the double headers I've ever been to.
  13. Seeing Roy trigg upset the form book by getting on the rostrum at west ham in 1970. This was my first british final, and the best!
  14. i don't want him anywhere near the tractor at kent dave. The curfew would be breached every week!
  15. After attending Arsenal v Bayern at the emirates on Tuesday, last night showed what a poor unprofessional sport speedway is. The promoters in this country are to blame for the state of things, not the riders or the GP's. Years of self interest has left the sport on its knees. The events at perry Barr last night will have driven more fans away from speedway, some never to return.
  16. i have to agree with you. Len silver is not my cup of tea, but under his ownership the future of the club seemed secure. The new promoters have a big job on their hands, to upgrade a deteriorating stadium and increase an ever shrinking fan base. Uncertain times ahead for the rockets I fear.
  17. to be honest shads, regarding arsene wenger, I've tended to sit on the fence until this seasons transfer window. As for Len silver, being a lifelong Wimbledon fan, I've never liked him!
  18. it's good to get the stadium improvements finished early shads!
  19. most people have got better things to spend their £20 on, and who can blame them.
  20. for that reason I'm surprised oxford is still standing. behave yourself!
  21. What happens if stadia uk pull out like they did at reading. Would the abbey remain in place surrounded by occupied new houses.
  22. too right, they're not gonna say there was a pathetic crowd here tonight!
  23. It was announced at least twice yesterday that the abbey would still run greyhound racing for another five months!. Surely the old place has to be demolished before the new stadium can be built.
  24. from what I have heard lakeside are not dead yet, and kent in the EL is not a done deal.
